Introducing: SAFETY NET. The ultimate protection against loss.
CEO is super proud of doing this weird corporate intro about our all new SAFETY NET marketplace <3
Get these BTCs safe, even if you lose everything. But don't trust anyone if you don't.
Liana v2.0 is finally out 🥳! It is a major release, but you won't see much of a difference if you are already using Liana. For new users though, it makes Liana a lot more friendly: no command line needed to launch Bitcoin Core anymore!
🧵 1/4
Yoooo, Bitcoin 2023 (
@TheBitcoinConf
) is just starting and tomorrow you get to see us Sardines next to the Open Source Stage 😎 come check us out and hear about Liana 🌿
*Adding a pic of our CEO talking about Liana on the main stage today to create hype*
Privacy has many layers in Bitcoin. Wallet fingerprinting is one of them.
Since Liana V5, your wallet can look like a regular single sig, while having invisible recovery paths protecting you.
I just made this transaction, looks like a single sig but...
This time, our CEO
@KLoaec
talked about Liana. Only about Liana. On the main stage. At
@TheBitcoinConf
2023. 😎
Check it out if you think you're cool enough✌️
Liana now supports RBF fee bumping, and we also added a "cancel" button to try (best effort) to cancel an outgoing transaction in case of a mistake.
Now also available: Automatic coin selection, deleting an existing wallet from the launcher, and more!
At least you can still use your Ledger with Liana, an open source, reproducible and bootstrappable software.
No shitcoin, no private key extraction, Bitcoin only, and with (secure!) recovery options.
Try it:
Liana v0.2 is finally out! It introduces multisignature to Liana. You can now decide to have more than one key on either or both the normal and recovery paths of your Liana wallet. It opens up a lot of new ways to safekeep your bitcoins: a thread 👇
Have you tried Liana yet? Are you using it?
If not, why?
v3 is nearly 2 weeks old, v4 will be here before the end of the year.
Feedback on our work is greatly appreciated <3
Hello world! You may know us as the
@revaultdev
people. We are releasing SOMETHING ELSE (very) soon 😱. Until now only a very few friends knew the team as WS, but hey we are now going public with this name.
Reminder that Liana isn't super hard to use.
Sure, you need to run a full node, and as Liana isn't connecting to any server you also need to enter the fee rate manually.
But that's it, it's a normal wallet otherwise :)
Took us a while to try it but...
@COLDCARDwallet
Miniscript just works in Liana, at least for our first test.
Didn't integrate the USB connection yet, we will do ASAP.
(these are obviously testcoins, DO NOT yet put money on the Edge firmware of Coldcard).
A year ago, Ledger released compatibility for Miniscript. It kick-started the momentum for many other manufacturers to add it too. Soon it'll be everywhere.
Our engineers did something amazing at
@Ledger
.
Ledger devices are the first hardware wallets to implement
#Miniscript
for
#Bitcoin
.
And it’s opening a world of possibilities for
@Ledger
users.
I explain it all here 👇
Sleep deprived CEO 🥹 explaining the set up of Liana with its most simple configuration: 1 key on the primary path, 1 key on the recovery. (1/2, next is how the wallet looks like 👇)
Naming new concepts is hard. In Liana, when a timelock expires and some funds become (also) spendable by recovery keys, we currently label them "expired".
That's obviously bad, users are scared their money expires. It does not.
What should we call these "expired" utxos instead?
Just one year ago, we were drafting the idea of Liana on flipcharts in an Airbnb, right after
@btcazores
. Feels like it was ages ago, but a max duration OP_CSV wouldn't have expired yet!
Still a lot to do, we are on it 💪
If one of your resolutions for 2024 is to start contributing to open source projects, Liana has quite a few "good first issues" that may let you start while learning.
Rust (including front end) and advanced Bitcoin stuff.

We will have a booth in Prague, like last year. Hopefully you'll come say hi (and get shiny stickers)!
Then no more events for a while, back to building.
PSA: Coldcard x Liana is coming!
For now it works only if:
- you compile Liana from Master (will NOT work with Liana v4!)
- and you use the very latest Edge firmware (published today).
This required quite a bit of work on Liana, async-HWI and a few changes on the Coldcard FW.
Did you know that Liana has a one click Bitcoin Core full node setup?
Just click the button, nothing to do or configure.
It's pruned at 10GB to not waste much disk space, and you'll be fully sovereign after a couple of days of initial block download (sync).
In our latest blog post,
@willcl_ark
walks you through the state of Bitcoin backups since the first Bitcoin release.

Timelocking and using them as part of self custody
To those of you seeking the

treasure, we shall reveal the one word. It is a powerful tool, made of magic 🪄 like us sardines 🐟. Its only weakness is what our home is make of, and why it's such a beautiful place.
Good luck on your journey to the mountain of sats. 💰
Let them taproots sprout! 🥕
Just released an early alpha of the Bitcoin Testnet app with
#taproot
#miniscript
support.
You can find it as "Bitcoin Test" version 2.2.0-alpha, after enabling "Experimental features" ⟹ "Developer tools" in your settings.
Imagine if you could have a bitcoin recovery service, where you don't have to trust the provider(s) as long as you haven't lost your keys.
And where you can choose your own provider(s). 😏
Timelocks are cool, yo.
We strongly believe the implementation of inheritance at Casa and Nunchuk is better than what people use today. But they are trusted 3rd parties in the case of an inheritance set up, and users need to understand the risks. This is not just a "2-of-3" security model anymore.
END.
Our co-founder and CTO
@darosior
wrote a very cool field report on our story at 🧙♂️🐟, specifically how we wouldn't even be there without Miniscript.
It's not just a cool tool, it's an enabler.

- describes an update to the ephemeral anchor proposal
- includes a contributed field report outlining miniscript's ecosystem adoption
- provides Bitcoin Core 26.0rc2 testing materials

Recap on Twitter Spaces
Worse, the money can be stolen, while the owner is still active.
Casa and Nunchuk do not use a Bitcoin timelock. Instead they "tell you" they won't allow the heir to take the bitcoins. But nothing prevents them from bypassing/ignoring the "time lock". Except trust.
(5/8)
Setup your Ledger without having to go through Ledger Live.
No nudges toward shitcoins, on-by-default Ledger recover, and the like. Just check your device is genuine and install the Bitcoin app.
This is just a PoC for now.
Collusion between the heir and Nunchuk or Casa is possible AT ANY TIME. No "time lock" that isn't on-chain can prevent that.
Maybe corruption, maybe a leak of the secrets at Casa/Nunchuk, maybe physical threat.
The owner of the funds has no defense mechanism against this.
(6/8)
Inheritance is finally starting to be a serious topic of discussion in the Bitcoin space. Until recently, the tools were really bad and/or risky, so the chance of your coins dying with you were pretty high.
Casa and Nunchuk both take the "simple UX" approach, (2/8 👇🏻)
In the inheritance scenario (owner passed away), the beneficiary MUST ask for permission to Casa or Nunchuk to spend.
Both Casa and Nunchuk can refuse to sign. Or be prevented from signing, for that matter.
They could even ask for ransom, refusing to releasing the funds.
(4/8)
Maybe time to rethink your self custody setup today?
You can book a Liana set-up call with our CEO
@KLoaec
or the team to help you out.

Social recovery in case you lose your keys? Easy to do with Liana. Your friends won't even know how much is on the wallet if you don't share the descriptor with them.
Our word is sometimes due to kinetics.
Sometimes to other branches of physics like ⚡, or 🔥.
It's also psychological.
More hints tomorrow if you can't figure it out.
#HuntingSats
Casa and Nunchuk are better options than sharing your mnemonics with your family, for sure. Mobile first, good UX is also a very important point for safety/security.
But other options exist on Bitcoin today, where the owner CANNOT be rugged, and heir CANNOT be ransomed. 7/8
That moment when we were setting up

last year, and our CTO

Thanks BTCPay for the publication, congrats Antoine for the discovery and the 💰 ✨
Publishing CVE-2022-32984: It is by far our most critical vulnerability exposed.
Thanks for
@darosior
for finding it, the BTCPay Server foundation awarded 5000 USD for this discovery.
For all of you asking "When
@COLDCARDwallet
" in Liana:
Step 1: Receiving our MK4s. We are on an island in the middle of the ocean, doesn't help with fast shipping.
STEP 2: integrating to our Rust HWI library.
STEP 3: testing the miniscript implementation thoroughly, we don't
Our CTO and co-founder
@darosior
gave a talk at
@TheBitcoinConf
about using OP_Vault in our own Liana wallet. Liana is not a Vault, but could definitely use covenants!
You are going to die, eventually.

to give access to inheritance even to non technical bitcoiners. Casa has the extra burden of supporting shitcoins.
While both Casa and Nunchuk are arguing about which solution is less "weak", let it be clear here that despite marketing: they are NOT using a Bitcoin time lock. 3/8
The wizardsardines are safekeeping their secret word on their island in the middle of the Atlantic. Will release in due time ⏳
Can you crack the wallet before we release our word?

This shows why we need BitcoinSeoul in Korea. Others may not realize or care if the flag is upside down.
Korea needs more discussion about Bitcoin, not just from the perspective of others, but also from the perspective of Korean people, Korean society, and Korea as a country.
Reminder that we now have a Telegram group and a Discord for anyone willing to learn about Liana, ask questions and exchange with other users 😊
We have a UX redesign for Liana desktop going on, so all feedback is welcome there!
Liana, in 16 minutes. GREAT video, covering all the aspects of Liana: setup, receiving, spending as multisig, and Recovery in case of loss of hardware.
Thank you very much for the video <3

Long overdue website update is finally live 🥹
Let us know what you like and don't like, we are trying to make things easier to understand... But it's not simple.
Hey, got a solid set up for inheritance in case something happens to you?

@thibm_
We are currently in the middle of an UX refresh for the set up of Liana, but if you want to know how it looks today, and how the spending process works: 👇
This new blog post shows the kind of engineering required to make a simple feature such as fee-bumping. Not so simple after all!
Jp1ac4, one of Liana full-time contributor, writes about the rabbit hole.
This kind of project is important. Not for FUD, but because reproducible builds are a necessity for mainstream OSS projects.
Users don't check the code. They distribute trust, and many people go through the reproducible builds to make sure the actual "binaries" are correct.
