I am quite wealthy now. 🙂
I started buying in early 2013, and remember even buying some coins in the $60s that summer. And indeed I sold all of it, in *early* 2017 for a ~20x cumulative return. Those returns allowed my wife and I to fully pay off our mortgage, which paved the
If this is what it takes to "10x to the next level", f-that.
Banks becoming the primary custodians of bitcoin takes us back to all of the rehypothication, derivatives, and over-financialized bullshit that has brought us to where we are today.
Back from Nashville, and after a little reflection, I need to reiterate a message I frequently put out there: kill your heroes.
Most of the people talking about the moon, laser eyes, power law, get on zero, digital energy, strategic national reserve, etc. etc., or who are
After a 15 yr career as a local cop, I knew I wanted to do something for bitcoin but had no idea what someone w/ a bachelor's degree in English lit, a minor in philosophy, and a background in digital forensics might have to offer...
Keep going -- bitcoin needs all of us!
The fact that this tweet was followed by accusations that I'd agreed to become a Blockstream shill or that or some other arrangement was behind it says some sad things about how the larger bitcoin ecosystem operates, or at the very least about how many people suspect it does.
I wanted to think carefully and respectfully about how I responded. Snarkiness can feel good in the short term, but you can only win people's minds and hearts with logic and love.
At this point, I'm guessing that Coinbase is operating as some kind of price-suppression-as-a-service agent on behalf of one or more third parties. It's the only thing that makes sense -- it would take conscious effort to be as incompetent as they are, for as long as they have
As someone who has personally helped execute search warrants, keeping a copy of your private key on a bitcoin-related hardware device makes it significantly easier to locate and immediately recognizable. And governments are now actively looking for ways to exploit your HWW.
This is from an account that most of you are familiar with.
A ton of money is being insidiously spent, behind the scenes, to influence how you think and what you want to buy.
Be careful out there anon.

was kind enough to give me this

Wore it out to a bar with family today.
Overheard someone say "What does the guy have against KFC?"
An ♾️ amount of "paper" bitcoin derivatives is the biggest threat to bitcoin's success.
Companies offering non-bitcoin-settled exposure to the price of bitcoin are actively harming the network's potential.
Self custody may be our only defense against this attack.
My sister has solar panels and was telling me how frustrated she was that credit for energy they contribute back to the grid did not carry over month-to-month. It piqued her interest when I told her that she could theoretically get paid in bitcoin for that extra energy instead of
If you don't want to trust a hardware wallet company to keep your details private, not to spy on you with proprietary software, if you don't agree with their technical decisions, or if you don't feel like they reflect your values, there are other really good options out there.
SeedSigner's third birthday came and went earlier this month and I totally missed it.
Amazing how far we've come -- a big thank you to all of our contributors that have brought the project to where it stands. 🧡
Announcing the successor to the groundbreaking Raspberry Pi Zero: the $15 Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Five times faster, and built around RP3A0, our first System-in-Package
It's been some time in the making, but our latest major release, SeedSigner v0.6.0, dropped last night and it's a monster...
More details to follow in a brief 🧵...
This is hands-down the most luxurious SeedSigner enclosure I have ever held; gorgeous design and pristine machining by
@MoneroTime
, who was kind enough to share his work with me. No idea if/when they will be made publicly available, but so far am thoroughly impressed.
Our project is unarguably making an impact in the bitcoin cold storage space and it has been interesting to observe how different corporate players have reacted / interfaced with what we're doing. In no particular order, here are some of my observations / impressions:
.
Super proud of this guy.
. First time on an airplane
. First time visiting Europe
. First bitcoin conference
This has been a trip both of us will remember for the rest of our lives. 🧡
Politician trying to normalize the idea that actually possessing your assets should not be legal.
They want to be able to take EVERYTHING from you if you run afowl of their system.
Permissionless / DIY cold storage tools are extremely important.
If you love bitcoin and freedom, even if it is not your cold storage tool of choice, you should want SeedSigner and tools like it to exist and flourish.
I've been saying from the beginning that I don't believe storing private keys on HWWs is a good idea; my opinion on this is one of the primary reasons why I created SeedSigner. I earnestly believe we will see more and more wallets exploited w/ gov't tools over time.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyone have any ideas how we can get invited on some of the upper-tier podcasts in bitcoin? As much as the project has grown over the last 3 years, feels like we're up against a kind of glass ceiling when it comes to podcast / conference exposure. Flummoxed...
Bitcoiners need to get over this tribal nonsense; influencers just use BS tweets like this for engagement.
Holding your own keys is the important part.
Was alerted by one of our contributors that our development fund received a ~22 million sat donation on Christmas day. What a wonderful gesture -- to whomever sent this, we immensely appreciate it! 🧡

Can someone let IBM know that we've already created a "hyper protect offline signing orchestrator" -- you can build it yourself for less than $50. And we even came up with a better name. 🤣
I frequently reference being a stay-at-home dad for multiple reasons.
One reason is to acknowledge that this is a gift that bitcoin has given to me -- the appreciation from my early bitcoin savings allowed my wife and I to escape what would have been a lifetime of debt, and
If I'd told people 1.5 years ago I was starting an open source project to build a hardware wallet that didn't store private keys, people would have thought I was f'ing crazy.
Unconventional ideas sometimes just have to be tried to properly assess whether or not they make sense.
Maybe with enough visibility we can get on

's radar...
Please LIKE and RETWEET if you'd like to build a SeedSigner but can't find a Pi Zero. 🙏
Don't fall for this kind of cult stuff. You may actually own enough bitcoin for your personal situation. Do the work, learn about it, and then invest what is sensible for your knowledge level and financial circumstances.
The amount of Bitcoin you could stack by building a SeedSigner instead of buying a retail airgapped signing device:
200,000-500,000 sats
The feeling of not dox'ing yourself & building an open source signing device from off the shelf components:
Priceless
Have thought a lot on why I got so irked yesterday during SE-related discussions; this is where I have landed. Not interested in discussing any further. If you feel I am wrong, keep using & building what you believe in. My apologies if I offended anyone interacting in good faith.
Once one of the major HWW manufacturers implements definitive personal ID verification & balance tracking into a purchase/onboarding/custody flow (likely in response to a given jurisdiction requiring asset registration) it will put tremendous pressure on other cold storage market
We may only have *one shot* at immaculately conceived, decentralized open source money before the establishment wises up. For that reason, I have zero tolerance for anything else in the “crypto” sphere. It’s a waste of focus and deleterious to the adoption of bitcoin. Full stop.

🚨 Announcing SeedSigner 0.8.0 ! 🚨
Our release notes have gotten so good that one of my release announcement threads doesn't make sense!
Just go and check out all of the details for yourself:
Super disappointing to see this FUD towards our project being blindly retweeted by

I wonder who sponsors his podcast and has done so for a long time.
SeedSigner kits are now available in my Square shop!
Hopefully this is a big step forward in making it easier for anyone who'd like to give our signing device a try.

They froze Starlink’s bank accounts too, despite Starlink being a separate company with different shareholders and having broken no laws and given no warning.
Earlier this year sold 3 signers to a guy in EU. Shipped them & they got lost in the mail. He asked for a refund & I gave it to him. He bought signers elsewhere. Months later, signers finally appear. He sold them locally & sent me the sats. Bitcoiners are the best kind of people.
DIY hardware wallets are for ppl that can't afford a better comercial option, they are not as secure, and they are not as reviewed.
Coldcard, Trezor and Ledger are far superior to the Raspberry Pi.
Having single sig unencrypted seeds at home is idiotic.
Sorry, not sorry.
For all of the bitcoiners that may be making donations to a political candidate, please consider supporting the FOSS projects that will still be building after your favorite politician has long forgotten his or her bitcoin-related promises.
What an amazingly powerful feeling. Earlier today, from my little corner of the world, with my little internet connection, I transferred a non-trivial amount of value to another party, without anyone's permission, immutably recorded. 🙌
Alright, I'm way overdue for a shout-out / gratitude thread. I'd like to call out many of the people who have helped move the SeedSigner project forward over the last 1.5 years. Many probably may not realize how many individuals have supported the project in so many amazing ways:
