In terms of North America, Grant is correct. OP sold worse than both Naruto and Bleach for many years. Honestly, becoming one of Viz's best sellers is a recent phenomenon.
Fun fact, both Pokemon Adventures and Vampire Knight sold more than One Piece for several years 😅
@_nuh_uh
WHA is a great title for all ages too. I feel like it's one of the safest and strongest manga series that can be recommended to anyone, no matter their experience with manga as a medium.
So Im reading Hell's Paradise and I discovered some interesting names Yuji Kaku thanks at the end of vol 1 😳
I decided to try to find what they've worked on.

It has been discovered that Shueisha and Media Do are working with Orange Inc, a company that uses AI to letter works.
Orange is working on the new MangaPlus series, Rugby Rumble
Shoutout to Maxybee of
@ShonenFlopCast
for the discovery!
Here is a panel lettered by Orange Inc:
With the news about Ancient Magus Bride simulpub breaking, I want to inform people that this is currently unrelated to the 7 Seas release of the series.
7 Seas does the volume release while this news is about the simulpub which will be done by the JP publisher(?)
It's alarming that they're charging $5/mo while using AI generated translations that, according to them, COULD HAVE ERRORS IN THE TRANSLATION
Man...what the hell....💀💀
[Not an April Fools Day Joke]
TO Books (JPN publisher of Bookworm, Tearmoon Empire, etc.) announced they are releasing a new digital manga reading platform for English readers
• They confirmed Google AI is being used for translation on the most recent chapters of their titles,
When the USA Manga Awards were created, I knew there would be comments like this when the nominees were announced.
The creators made a good call by having those tied to the industry (and one content creator) judge the entries
Now, did you know Viz has a manga license request survey like 7 Seas has?
No lie! It's right here:
If you want them to license 7 Seeds, The Climber, Kingdom, and Oshi no Ko, you can tell them right here!

Dude just said how: she's a legacy director (emphasis here) and actor with a large social standing in the industry.
It's not about the followers on a social media platform, but the power held in the industry.
So I went and checked the K Manga app for all the titles that are currently unlicensed in North America!
I found 34 titles that are currently not licensed in the US
Had to call this out:
Kodansha USA is not going to license a Shueisha title.
"What about Shaman King?"
The mangaka moved it over to Kodansha (I think he bought the rights from Shueisha and then moved)
"What about Iruma?"
Akita Shoten isn't Shueisha & doesn't have a US branch.
@beckw1n
Or do research or ask others. People just got defensive and claiming he was wrong without providing any evidence except "it's popular now so it always was" 😅😅
This is typical with WSJ. The reason this seems like a lot to Western readers comes from how easily accessible this information is now vs pre-2010s. Now, we have simulpub releases so you find out realtime.
I think WSJ is giving them more leeway now than years before
Man how many Jump series have been canned before they hit 24 chapters in the past couple years
feels like they're so desperate for hits now they kill shit if it doesn't instantly find its footing
Fire Force is Kodansha under Weekly Shonen Magazine
Hell's Paradise was Jump+
Neither were Weekly Shonen Jump which is what the poster was mentioning.
Also, this happens to many manga magazines. They'll be fine.
Just finished reading Summertime Rendering! 😁
I didnt expect to enjoy it as much as I did! 🙂The characters' dynamics were good, the cat-and-mouse between the protagonists and the antagonists was great because no one made any dumb mistakes due to the plot.
Highly recommend!
I have seen this author push a specific negative narrative about English translations and localizations of anime and manga that was frequently disproven by those in the industry.
I'm glad this Twitter poster brought this to light.
Michelle Khan (aka
@p9cker_girl
), the author of this article, was on Twitter the other day claiming to know a bunch of facts about these sorts of things -- but also claiming that she couldn't disclose or discuss any of those facts because she was bound by an NDA.
I feel like people forget how much power an editor has on a work. They can shape a lot of a work.
IIRC, Samurai 8's editor was the same one on Red Hood, EarthChild, Hell Warden, and on MHA around chapter 285 or so
My copy of More than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers volume 1 by

has arrived! 😁
I've wanted to read this after watching the anime! Glad
@UdonEnt
licensed it for English!
I saw a post of someone being upset if the official publisher releases chapters BEFORE the leakers do because that person would get spoiled.
Basically saying that the official release would spoil the series for those who read leaks.
Bro what logic is that???🤣🤣🤣
@MangaAlerts
This is why they shouldve kept RSA up for longer while CR Store migrates things over or gets everything set up.
Honestly, they shouldve announced the migration earlier (like a month or two before) to give time to make sure the CR Store is properly set up.

Wait....you're telling me you dont go and say, "One Bleach show please!" to companies? 😲😲😂
I dont know how to process this 😂
But in all seriousness, thanks for the information on the series!
the leaker throwing a tantrum because the Kagurabachi fandom doesn't want their series to have story leaks is pretty hilarious. 😂😂
Even more hilarious is that the same leaker is considering making an alt account to post leaks for the series.
@MangaAlerts
Probably either Billy Bat or Kingdom. 😅
Billy Bat due to its content and Kingdom due to length and how its subject matter isn't well known in the NA market.
LRT:
Is it just me or does it seem very inappropriate and rude to ask a publisher to reprint a Mangaka's work as a reply to a publisher giving condolences to said Mangaka on their passing?
@Time68726236
@Based5656
@25thMyles
I think you summed up the series perfectly!
I think the problem is that some people want dark, edgy stories and Spy x Family doesn't do that.
Global investment firm KKR has purchased Big 5 book publisher Simon & Schuster (S&S) for $1.62 billion! This will turn S&S into an independent private company.
What does this have to do with manga? 🤔
S&S is the distributor for Viz Media
From IcV2:
Just got my volume of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity volume 1!
Something I thought was pretty cool is that they list the team who worked on what I assume is the K Manga version alongside the team who worked on the print version.
Shoutout to

Kevin from Viz says that there's still a lot of room to grow with manga publishing and driving business upward.
Once again, the North American manga industry isnt declining or dying like some content creators want you to believe

Never said America was the only country. I was focused on North America specifically for my statement.
OP is popular in North America now. Fans should take the W and move on from the past. Fans should stop saying it was always popular in NA and bask in its current success.
Yes, Viz is taking an L during the AX event and got suckered punched by both 7 Seas and Yen Press, but this is the same thing Kodansha experienced with TR.
Hopefully, Viz learns from this and get better. 😁
I know people have been talking about the next Viz box set now that TPN is getting one. My speculations on the candidates:
Black Clover - Very likely.
JJK - Wont until 2024/5.
Komi - Very likely.
Love is War - Wont until 2025/6
Dr. Stone - Wont until 2025.
@MangaAlerts
One thing to note is that each volume will be $60.
While it's obvious since it's a deluxe HC, I just wanted to state this in case people have a heart attack when they get listed on retailer sites 😂
Also, there will be 8 deluxe volumes
With the price increase amongst Viz titles, I know people are suggesting which series you should prioritize.
Just buy the ones you want. If it's a popular Viz title, cool. If not, also cool. 🙂
Also, there are retailers that sell under MSRP.
There's a post about the Undead Unluck anime being a flop/failure because there wasn't a boost in manga sales for the series.
While it's great if a series is boosted as the anime is airing, some series get boosts post season end. A boost can still occur 🙂

Hey everyone!
I've seen a few people on my feed mention where to buy manga. Makes sense considering we have many new people buying manga for the first time!! 🙂
I thought to mention what retailers I use to buy my manga maybe as a guide to help any new buyers out!
I think this is interesting to have happened. There have been talks about whether we're starting to see over saturation in the market and I don't think we are.

Abrams ComicArts is launching a new manga imprint for the US Market called Kana
• Their primary focus is to publish titles translated from the Japanese, in addition to select titles that were originally published in French
• Kana plans to publish 40-60 titles per year in
I nearly forgot! one of the designers is Hideaki Shimada!
Dude is a legendary cover designer who has done work on Dragon Ball Complete Eds, Slam Dunk Complete/Perfect Editions, Spy x Family, and more!
HiDive will host all 13 episodes of Scum's Wish on their platform starting June 24th.

Please keep in mind that OP not selling well in North America has nothing to do with its quality. It's still an incredible work.
Fans should stop getting so defensive about actual facts 😅
@Amadeusmon
I considered it but I wouldnt suggest it to someone who hasnt consumed manga before as a starting manga series.
Personally, I would make it the next fantasy series after these titles.
This doesnt take anything away from Berserk (it's a masterpiece imo).
@FGCJay_
@Nibellion
Kenshin's was pretty good.
If we're talking about American anime adaptations, then yeah I agree.
The only good ones were Speed Racer and Edge of Tomorrow/Live, Die, Repeat
