Climate policy models need to get real about people, but how? See our new comment
@Nature
:
1. It depends on who's the decision-maker
2. We need collaboration btw modelers (knowing what's feasible) & social scientists (knowing what's important)

My DREAM project is funded by
@NSF
! We will model the interactions of climate policy, air quality & social inequalities:
So excited about this tiny step to "get real about people" - as we proposed recently

Can we solve the global climate problem just based on countries' self-interest?
Probably no, but health co-benefits can help a lot.

What does it mean for climate policy if health co-benefits are accounted? This is always a central question that intrigues me to work at the intersection of air pollution & climate. Our new paper on

PA is nearing the finish line to join RGGI after yesterday's IRRC vote. Just perfect timing to publish our new

Survived my 1st month as a new professor! A lot to say but the biggest difference observed so far for time management: grad/postdoc -coding>writing/reading>meeting; assist prof - meeting/teaching >writing/reading>coding. Already miss the fun I had coding&debug all day long!

To apply:
As a faculty mentor to many F1 students, I am positive that many of us will do everything we could to help find a solution. But as a former student on F1 for 5 yrs, I can only imagine the level of mental stress and sense of insecurity among intl students. What a crazy time.
This is bad. ICE just told students here on student visas that if their school is going online-only this fall, the students must depart the United States and cannot remain through the fall semester.
Just got my first proposal rejection as I finish up my first semester as a faculty. Now I will have a new category in my CV of failures, though I’ve decided to frame it as CV of behind-the-scene efforts :)
I grew up in China & lived in the US for 10 yrs to study climate policy around the world. I can't stress enough abt the importance of US-China collaboration for the global sustainability agenda.
Thanks

Our book is out after 5+ yrs of efforts! To me the key shift in perspective is to assess near-term policies not just based on their immediate impacts, but also the potential longer term effects: Will they lay the foundation for China to deeply decarbonize in the decades to come?
A new book by Daniel Schrag and Henry Lee et al., makes the case that the actions that China takes over the next 10 years will have a major impact on its ability to meet its 2060 carbon neutrality target.
Congratulations to Assistant Professor Caitlin Grady (

Many of us in the modeling community have long recognized the importance of representing social & political factors that shape climate policies in the real world. The question is what to prioritize: there can be a tradeoff between what's tractable and what's important. 2/7

Look forward to updating my CV & getting a revised diploma! I still remember the student movements in 2015 that (only?) led to an exhibition on Wilson’s legacy in the Robertson Hall at that time. It takes 5 years to get to this big decision, but still glad to see it happening.
The

But this is also the thing I admire you the most, Leah. I just can’t imagine myself enduring all these unfair criticisms but still remain energetic to explain again & again with saint level of patience. I wish you will continue to do this as you are an inspiration to many of us.
Like many people in the clean energy space, I'm living these days w/ a weird sort of split brain. On one side, the world is falling apart & everyone/thing is awful. On the other side, there's a spectacular flourishing of inventiveness & problem-solving. Hard to square the two.
I will be giving a brief
