If MLB doesn't kill this preposterous deal, it becomes WWE. Certainly entertaining, but not a sport with any ambitions of actual competition.

Exclusive @TheAthletic : Shohei Ohtani will defer $68 million per year of his $70 million annual salary over the course of his 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers, allowing the team to keep spending, according to a person briefed on the terms.

TFW you read a whole-ass book, then get to the epilogue describing a 2022 net return of +9.5% as "shaky" and start to doubt all the interesting stuff you read.

Over the next 6 months, the American center-left is going to invest vast resources in trying to convince Main Street USA that inflation isn't that bad. They know it won't work, of course, but they won't be able to help themselves.

Oh no what ever will lenders do. I guess they'll just have to go with FICO and not punitive credit models of their own which do even more to restrict access to credit among affected consumers.

Making it illegal to use medical debt as a consideration in credit scores is a triumph of Fiat World, where reality is presented to us by declaration rather than lived experience. Not a red/blue thing (Trump is even worse), but a power thing. It is the ruin of our world.

@JoelWBerry @philvischer I am missing where Phil says that these aren’t issues and people worthy of our concern, too. Does grief over the plight of one group require us to subscribe to racist conspiracy theories and memes about the other? Seems that’s all Phil was responding to but maybe I’m missing st?

Worse than that, honestly. This is a town of 40,000 people with a mean household income in excess of $215,000. It is a suburb to the two most suburby suburbs in the universe: Frisco and McKinney. Its violent crime rate is less than 20% of the Texas average. This is criminal.

@realprophetguy Maybe the saddest part is that there isn't a "Jezebel" who wasn't once called an "Esther" and whatever distinction led to being called the former instead of the latter almost never had anything to do with her.

Conservatives are incapable of producing good art because they lack empathy, which means they are incapable of creating anything which communicates to a larger audience. When they try to produce art, they only end up producing clumsy in-group signaling.

The trick is to reframe your return chasing as "looking for repeatable processes" and overbuild a diligence process around that. Bonus points if you build a Rube Goldberg machine to decompose return sources. That way you can still chase returns but you sound smarter.

Allocators often claim its easy to find the "best" funds, suggesting simple approaches like "just invest in funds with top quartile risk/return in the past." But these strategies don't outperform on a *forward looking* basis b/c managers don't persistently outperform.

If a news article includes the phrase "with ties to" it almost universally means that the journalist who wrote it can't really connect a person to a Very Bad Thing in any meaningful way but would be really, truly delighted if you did so.
