Antisexist, antiracist, antijerk. Sassmouth, nosyparker, busybody. (And you're probably looking for
@iamwill
or
@WilliamsRuto
.) opinions all mine. He or they.
@JuliaLeo4
@AngryBlackLady
Whew! Narrow escape, Julia. For a moment, there was a thread on Twitter that didn't center white feelings. Thank goodness you were ready!
@NYTLiz
Your lack of standards for anybody who slaps on a "journalist" label really makes me wonder what standards, if any, you have for your colleagues and your own work.
@SarahTaber_bww
@IamShaneMorris
I've always loved the quote, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” But I've never seen somebody just admit that's what he's doing.
@aptly_engineerd
Holy moly. She's already been put on administrative leave at work while they investigate and she has given the dog back to the rescue agency:
@alephnaught2tog
It's unusually badly written, but I believe it's the standard misogynist notion that telling guys to stop being jerks to women is disempowering them. Unsurprisingly, I've never seen a feminist suggest it.
Bob Baffert blamed "cancel culture" after his horse, Medina Spirit, who won the Kentucky Derby, failed its post-race drug test.
"We live in a different world now. This America's different."
@andrealahue
@monaeltahawy
Hi, Andrea. This is textbook white fragility. Insisting that we ignore race after we spent centuries oppressing people on the basis of race is pro-white-supremacy behavior. Note where your "I don't see color" routine falls. And note what it supports.
Seriously, journalists, there's no need to platform abusive men. Interview the reporter. Interview other women who have been sexually assaulted with impunity. Interview experts like
@monaeltahawy
. But don't give abusive men room to gaslight the public.
@duffygirl8
@APSouthRegion
@AP
He already is getting the misdemeanor version of it. A more serious sexual assault would be a felony. How much more do you need to minimize this?
@bothanspied
@JimRyanMKE
@JuliusGoat
You ignore that back in the day, the views of practically everybody were shut down by the narrow set of people who controlled access to the megaphones. Those people today are just mad that we rabble can no longer be silenced.
@these_qualia
One of my entirely unproven theories is that the "customer is always right" justification for bad treatment of service workers is a major contributor to the modern rise of fascism by giving a lot of people the taste of power that comes with having a servant caste.
This is how Men advocate for keeping women from self improvement.
Men explain to other men and help them improve, no one complains.
He wants to shame men who want to treat women as equal to men.
This is a backhanded way of hurting women's career and pay
Disgusting.
@HLEisthen
@AngryBlackLady
Plus we're supposed to pretend we do it all ourselves. And it's taboo to talk about relationships. So it's no wonder he can fool himself like this.
@OnBradstreet
I grew up in a pretty chaotic environment. Crises provide a clarity I find soothing. I know what I need to do; I'm doing it.
There's a lot that is out of my hands, and bad things could happen at any point. But I learned that long ago.
I truly appreciate someone having an epiphany and coming forward. But this is a clear example of
@monaeltahawy
's "white women are the footsoldiers of patriarchy".
The man accused of slapping
@wsavalexb
's backside while she was on the air is telling his side of the story.
In an interview with
@InsideEdition
, 43-year-old Tommy Callaway says he went to wave to the camera and got caught up in the moment.
Imagine you have a ticket to a Trump rally. Whoever is holding it at the time, must attend. How much would you pay to get rid of it? That's negative price.
@bothanspied
@JimRyanMKE
@JuliusGoat
And honestly, I get that. They devoted their lives to gaining a kind of power that the Internet has greatly diminished. I might be mad, too. But I hope I'd face the truth instead of doing this:
I hope Netflix picks this up for a full season. 13 different people from all walks of life. Each one goes to Bedbug Bret's house, is richly fed, and then absolutely savages him in front of his family. Who do you want in it?
@KillerMartinis
is my first choice.
OK I gotta go be productive but in conclusion: Yes I absolutely would go to Bret Stephens home, drink his wine, eat his chicken marsala, and then tell his kids why he sucks.
Absolutely.
@Died_Stoned
@neontaster
How surprising a white guy from Texas would be cool with racism that could get a black guy killed. You keep on minimizing, just like you were raised to.
@rhinestonespecs
@SassBaller
If touching somebody's stuff is bad, where on your scale is kidnapping people, beating them until they work for you, and then selling off their kids for a profit?
@CMcLoudMouth
@MarkDice
@BurgerKingUK
It means "men finally having to be responsible for themselves a little bit". Their masculinity is so fragile it can be punctured with a wooden spoon or a damp sponge.
@jacuzziandpool
@MFCheeseFries
Why is it that the worst people always have "Christian" in their bio? I guess he must have said, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as little as possible."
@dshwa76
@ozsultan
@Mynta
@C_Stroop
Totally. When a dude turns up exhibiting a severe case of correctile dysfunction, there's not even a point to spoon-feeding him. Because his goal isn't to learn a damned thing, but to play textual king-of-the-hill.
Holy shit, this thread. Everybody stand back, because I have some things to say. The first one being: Dantley, is this your first time *using* Twitter?
I’m really disappointed that some users spoke so disrespectfully about members of the team responsible for the new Twitter web site. Critcism on our work and decisions is fair game. Personal attacks aren’t. Ask yourself, what would your mom think of your behavior? 🤦♀️ is my guess.
@tweetannylee
@AngryBlackLady
@rgay
Nope. Accurately pointing out typical white-dude behavior is not racist. If you think so, you probably don't know what the word means. Here's a good definition.
@AllMattNYT
@TheLincoln
Whoa! Did you know there's another Matt Rosenberg at the NYT who was just saying that there were no limits? That it isn't a conditional right? You two should have a convo.
@qntmpkts
@eastdakota
It's freedom of association. Generally businesses are not obliged to do business with people they don't want to. Why do you hate freedom?
@CaitlinPacific
@IHateNYT
Ok, I looked it up. It did not look like a "blank wall". Nothing in a modern chain store qualifies because they are designed to be cheap.
Also, it's a poor author who blames their readers for confusing writing.
@DrJenGunter
@Wordsnflowers1
My sincerest sympathies for the whole thing. You're a wonder, and I wish she had seen it.
If it's a help, the death of relatives with whom I've had... complicated relationships has let me draw a line under things. I hope you find the serenity that has (slowly) come to me.
@leahmcelrath
@Ferett22
@ashtonpittman
Totally. And for any non-Southerners feeling smug, I recommend reading Loewen's "Sundown Towns". It opened my eyes to how bad the rest of the US was about this, my home area included.
@0rf
@m_mendozaferrer
@BernieSanders
How in the world can you think the last paragraph made anything better? If anything "I did the racism because it made me laugh" is worse.
@Reductress
Yes! I love this point especially. Restorative justice to me is partly about recognizing the circumstances around crime. The people very last on my list to help are rich and powerful men who have a calculated system of abuse.
@TheRightMelissa
@magi_jay
@NYTLiz
Thomas Jefferson had 6 children by a black woman, but still kept her as one of his many slaves. Having sex with a black person is perfectly compatible with supporting white supremacy.
@gabrielsnyder
@moorehn
@CJR
I appreciate the detail, but I'm disappointed you accepted his framing of critics wanting the NYT to be the opposition party, while he's just after the truth.
As Jay Rosen, etc., make clear, the problem is that Baquet's pursuit of "objectivity" leads the NYT away from truth.
