Every one of Bong Joon Ho's wins is also a big old FUCK YOU to Weinstein, who sabotaged what was supposed to be his international breakout movie, Snowpiercer
#Oscars
God it’s still incredible how the AVGN talking about Sentai and Power Rangers and acknowledging Zyuranger positively is still some of the absolute best “big name” toku review content out there. Leagues above others In enthusiasm, knowledge and ease of access for new fans.
@StephenSeanFord
Short version:
Bong fought Weinstein hard to make sure Snowpiercer wouldn’t be edited down to be more “accessible to Americans”
Weinstein retaliated by giving it a super limited release
@PlanetofFinks
Don’t think it’s quite what you mean, but the titular band in Sing Street has a pretty believable evolution of their skill and style as the movie goes on
The thing about John Romita Sr.
His background as a romance comics artist informed heavily on his time drawing Spider-Man
No coincidence Gwen, Mary Jane, and all the associated romantic drama we associate with the characters cropped up around his time on Amazing Spider-Man
Watching more Transformers Earthspark and deeply wishing I’d had a character like Nightshade in the shows I watched growing up
Happy nonbinary kids watching now have something that can help them contextualize they’re feelings
John Byrne's run on Doom Patrol (June 2004 - November 2005) was meant to be a reboot for the team, erasing all previous runs from continuity.
It was received so poorly that, two months after it ended, all previous runs were retconned back into continuity.

The brief snippets I've seen from this guys videos that other people use to demonstrate why they're bad can *barely* be called focused reviews
Literally just pausing the movie as it goes and commenting on every minute detail seemingly completely off the cuff with no thesis
I get the impulse to compare Nimona to Spider-Verse in style
But remember that this movie started as a Blue Sky production and that studio did The Peanuts Movie three years before Spider-Verse blew all our minds
They were on top of the stylized cgi game earlier than most
I muted this, but just 2 responses to common replies first:
1) I know no cuts got made to the American release of Snowpiercer, my point was about how stunted its release was
2) I don't care if you didn't like Snowpiercer
A Sky News presenter has attracted criticism for stating that a 13-year-old Tetris record breaker should "go outside [and] get some fresh air... Beating Tetris is not a life goal.”

She wanted to make one final statement on the series on her terms and give Neo/Trinity their happy ending
No intent of ever following up

James also made an out of character review of the Mighty Morphin series where he talks about thinking it was just lame kiddy stuff as a teen and wishing he’d known it had regular kaiju action every episode
Whoever's idea it was to have John Cena sing a villain song as Baron Draxum that was a parody of Modern Major General
Whatever they were paid...
It wasn't enough!

This was one of the last things of his I watched before I stopped, yes.
He called Holdo one because... she gets in the way of Poe's bad ideas, if I recall correctly.
Ok, I haven't been online since the Oscars ended last night
How did this happen?
How did my lukewarm take of "Snowpiercer deserved better" get this much traction?
“You get stuck in these things. It’s so hard to get out.” - “Yeah. It is…”
“She says it’s normal.” - “That’s good. I like normal.”
“I can always escape.” - “Can you?”
Hmmmm?

People get caught up on the "power" aspect of the superhero in the case of the former two examples
While Makima represents a self-supposed superiority that they have the right to decide how to "fix" the world
See also: Ozymandias
i dont think characters like homelander and omni-man are counterarguments for superheroes, since their intentions are never to actually help the world.
makima from chainsaw man is a counterargument for superheroes.
I will never be able to understand people who use Shazam! and Birds of Prey as examples of how DC Movies "went wrong" after a certain director's exit
Especially when those same people otherwise talk about how much they love seeing directors apply a unique vision to the genre
Finally really digging into Iron Widow and

Most fun I've had reading anything in a while!
Three reasons Skull Island is the best Monsterverse movie:
1. Kong rips a monsters intestines out through its throat!
2. Tom Hiddleston cuts pterodactyls in half with a katana!
3. JOHN C RILEY!!!!

Remember how everyone blamed the vfx crew for how the cats of CATS looked even though every indicator pointed to Hooper knowing fuck all about how to direct with vfx in mind?
Here's one problem with content like this.
Yes, criticize Marvel Studios and how they treat VFX studios and artists. But this isn't just Marvel. It's throughout the industry and needs an industry-wide solution.
I fear people will lose interest in supporting VFX artists.
Evans was in Snowpiercer the same year as Winter Soldier and Knives Out the same year as Endgame
So maybe cool it on “he only does stock roles now because Marvel ruined him!”
"But you see, they had to spend season 1 doing that so they were free to do a more traditional version in season 2"
Season 2 Episode 1:
Surf Dracula: "Do I even deserve this surf board? I refuse to use it until I *truly* prove myself!"
(Yes I know technically Gwen first appeared in a Ditko issue, but Romita took over not to long after Ditko's departure from the book. Which was only a couple issues after Gwen first appeared.)
My Adventures with Superman observation:
“We got bored in the first year of isolation and made a mutant army” was such a “we started writing this show mid pandemic” line

Hearing the phrase "Friendship is Witchcraft" followed by the revelation you were one of the people behind it was a one-two punch I was not prepared for when I clicked on this

Never seen that specific combo before
Must have been those "many trials and studies" that accomplished this "enlightenment.
