Today I am working as both the gynae consultant and the the gynae registrar whilst my doctor colleagues strike for FPR.
4th strike, 4th time back on the wards, proud to support a generation of doctors who believe in real action, not stickers 🦀

Night two. Remembering my hate hate relationship with this antique bit of plastic.
Grateful for the sandwich delivery but struggling with the idea that consultants get fed and watered whilst ‘juniors’ don’t.
#PayRestoration
first. Working conditions next.

What am I doing this morning as gynaecology consultant on call? Teaching? Reviewing A&G requests? Seeing patients? Nope. Ward round then half an hour of IT fixing, including replacing my own keyboard.
Medical school then 17 years of training/experience. Make it make sense 🤦🏽♀️
@RoshanaMN
Educational. A stark reminder of why our juniors deserve more.
3 caesarean sections. Multiple women with medical complexity. Gynae patients in A&E. A 45 min snooze. If that.
I have never been more convinced that our juniors are doing the right thing. Back for more tonight!

Yes. And I get that someone probably thought that this would be a nice morale boost, but what a kick in the teeth for not only our juniors but also the wider MDT? This is a hospital that usually has no access to food overnight.
@NeelyMozawala
one for your great work!
@EllieMRogers
I’m so sorry. I’m a college tutor. Over my dead body in my unit.
We do have a physician assistant in our unit, but they work exclusively on the postnatal ward and *assist* the SHOs. It works well.
Not a physician. My grandfather was. I can promise you that he would have supported
@trishgreenhalgh
et al in standing up for patient safety at the RCP EGM tomorrow. Thank you all for defending the profession and leading on this front.
My grandfather?
Tomorrow (13 March), there will be an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Royal College of Physicians on Physician Associates. We called this meeting because of concerns about patient safety. Please read and circulate our STATEMENT OF CONCERN about how the EGM is being set up.
Going with

Great MDT support on labour ward💪🏽
Junior doctor colleagues you are worth so much more than £14/hour. Thank you for standing up for all of us

Just as proud of my stroppy selfie in
@bmj_latest
as I would be of a piece of academic literature.
Ready for my night shifts in the next round of strikes.
So proud of our ‘juniors’ for standing up for all of us 🦀

I think you’ll find that I was expressing my personal frustration at what being a consultant has become, not with another part of then team. I am sure that the IT department would like to be well resourced enough to not have phone queues 🤷🏽♀️.

@MutteringWildly
Deeply ashamed that this is a fellow O&G consultant.
Our IMG colleagues contribute so very much to the O&G workforce. Worforce attrition is a continued issue in O&G. Unsupportive seniors are often sited as a key issue. I hoped that the new generation would be different 😔.
@WelshGasDoc
I had this problem too, with a skeleton that I was the 4th gen of my family to take to med school. No one (colleges, med school, path museum) wanted it.
I’ve done the sensible thing and donated it to a friend’s medical student daughter to delay the problem for another ~20 years
@moribunddr
Yep. Not just food. Several interactions overnight with a noticeable change in tone when the person on the other end of the phone realises that it’s the consultant carrying the reg bleep. I’m sorry. We all have a responsibility to do more to keep your generation in medicine.
@ADigitalWitch
It doesn’t, until you remember that the half hour it took (waiting on the phone, waiting for a call back, going to get it, plugging it in and restarting computer) could have been spent with patients. This can’t be the best use of a senior clincian’s tine.

Well done. I have happy memories of 2am team canteen visits for mystery fruit crumble at the Homerton back in 2011-ish. Just another little way that the job has changed. Good luck with the night tonight!
@Microbedoc2
@EllieMRogers
Jamie, I honestly despair re what is going on with the Colleges etc. How the hell do we train our consultant colleagues of the future if we take away opportunities? Our unit is *far* from perfect, but not giving the great bits of the job away to non doctors is a no brainer 🤦🏽♀️
@moribunddr
Oh no, please don’t think that I saw it as an attack at all. I have been following your journey and can see exactly how the above situation rankles. I remain utterly frustrated that we are potentially losing talent like you when we should be doing everything we can to keep you.
Thrilled to be nominated for the Masterchef category

WeCelebrate. Rather appropriate on the day that I’ve been delivering gynaecological cookies to my wonderful colleagues!

@NHSBartsHealth
If you’re enjoying the sun in the square
@BartsHospital
today you might hear Barts Academic Festival Orchestra and Choir performing Haydn’s Creation. It won’t be perfect (we’re doing it as an ‘instant’ workshop up in the Great Hall), but the sunshine should help!

We celebrate birthdays every day in maternity at the Royal London 👶. Today we are celebrating a day early on behalf of Mr Hogg, our wonderful CD! I’ll let him explain why the cake is sewage themed....

Cake to say thanks! There is a national shortage of O&G registrars, but we’ve filled nearly every shift this weekend, the vast majority with our own staff pitching in. Midwives you were amazing-kept us all going! ❤️

Very good point
@andyheeps
. Where’s your tweet on this
@RCObsGyn
? We all know that O&G isn’t very different from the rest of the surgical specialties when it comes to this sort of thing 😔
Have I missed the

Strike day 2 ✅. Taking a break to celebrate

I’ll be holding the registrar bleep again for night shifts on strike days 4 and 5 🦀

thank you for the education via twitter on how misunderstood this role is) reporting from, well, what we ask our team to do every day of the week

The lovely story of the arrival of my ‘God’son Alexander, with some very apt listening for all who care women in same sex relationships. Well done

It was pretty extraordinary. The planters were there at 2230 last night when I arrived home. Gone at 0730 this morning when I left for work. Didn’t hear a thing.
In October 2008 Kathryn and I started our o&g training together

The Gov, despite opposition from doctors, is planning to register PAs & AAs with the GMC, with only local oversight of training or competence.
@twocitiesnickie
, as my MP, please oppose the draft Anaesthesia Associates & Physician Associates Order 2024 to protect patient safety
@muirkate
Thank you. This is becoming an equality issue. We need doctors that represent all of us. How can we ask bright young people from diverse backgrounds consider saddling themselves with (approx) 100k debt to earn £14/hr?
I'm proud to be judging the 2020
