Indeed. And I don't even want to get into the culture of patronage and nepotism that's rampant in Indian literature. Somehow only writers on non-fiction seem keen to engage with reviewers — I speak from experience. They sometimes write in, even if they disagree with you.
In the mid-1990s, the West Bengal government carried out Operation Sunshine, an eviction drive to remove hawkers from the thoroughfares of Calcutta. My fictional story on Operation Sunshine published by The Bombay Literary Magazine.
