Since today is the start of Black History Month, here's a map of the black population of the United States by County. You can definitely spot the outline of the southern "black belt" here that stretches from Louisiana and Arkansas to Virginia.

Pouget (RN): 31,4 %

Former President François Hollande won a seat in the National Assembly, defeating the LR incumbent.

In case anyone is wondering what's going on in Oregon, 85% of the Senate Republican Caucus will be unable to run for re-election in 2024/2026 because they've walked out on legislative sessions.
Biden: With AI, fraudsters can take a three second recording of your voice, I have watched one of me on a couple of occasions. I said when the hell did I sat that?
There's one county here that kind of sticks out, Forest County, PA. It went from being 2% Black in the 2000 census to over 30% in the 2010 census. What changed? Well, they opened a prison there and that population now counts for the county.

☑️In an unbelievable upset, Democrat Avi Schnall has defeated Republican Assemblyman Ned Thomson in one of the reddest districts in the state. He leads by 453 votes with all of Monmouth in and half of Lakewood machines still uncounted.
I've said before that the Massachusetts Democratic Party is a dark horse for worst state Democratic Party, but with the candidate filing deadline passing, I can prove it.
The Massachusetts Dems failed to field a candidate in a GOP-held, Biden+31 State House seat (11th Worcester)
Ohio candidate Derek Myers pre-recorded a concession video.
In it, he pretends he’s answering an interview question from the local news, and plays fake party noise in the background to make it sound like he was at a real election night party.
Problem is: He accidentally
In a move that might have some large consequences, a Republican Arizona State Representative has stated she will not cast any vote in the legislature unless the 2022 elections are "redone."
This effectively cuts the Republican majority there to 30-29.
And there it is: the NC Supreme Court, in a 4-3 ruling along party lines, strikes down the GOP congressional map that might have led to an 11R-3D split, orders NC's General Assembly to submit new maps by Feb. 18th.
No but we need to do this for American Congressional elections.
If I tune into MSNBC on election night and Steve Kornacki isn’t narrating a cgi moped race between Sherrod Brown and Bernie Moreno, I want my money back.
@nikicaga
Tony Blair was a LIAR
Margaret Thatcher was EVIL
Gordon Brown was SCOTTISH
at the end of the day all your favorite British politicians are bad people
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party's only flip in the State Senate came in SD-14, a Biden+7 seat covering the Allentown area. Democratic school board member Nick Miller defeated Republican Dean Browning, who you may remember from pretending to be a black gay guy on Twitter.

SPECIAL ELECTION:
Tameika Isaac Devine (D)- 86%
Kizzie Smalls (R)- 9.7%
Others- 4.3%
76-point win in a Biden+65 seat, an 11-point overperformance to kick off 2024!
🚨 UPSET ALERT 🚨: Kim Coco Iwamoto is currently beating Democratic State House Speaker Scott Saiki in Hawaii.
If this lead holds, Iwamoto would become the first ever openly transgender State Legislator in Hawaii history!
The city of Whittier, Alaska is notable for the fact that nearly the entire population lives in just one building (Begich Towers). Here's how the building voted in 2022:
2022 US House- Peltola+11%
2022 Senate- Murkowski+43%
2022 Governor- Dunleavy+26%
Fun fact, here in Illinois if you have a 70% disability rating, you don't pay property taxes. So, yeah Tammy Duckworth doesn't pay property taxes because of that.
Dems win the New Hampshire special legislative election in HD-Grafton 16 (which backed Biden by 31) by 44 points! Another solid overperformance for the Dems this year.
I've seen enough...
THE ALABAMA DEMOCRATS HAVE FLIPPED

, DOMINATING THE REPUBLICANS IN A TRUMP+1 DISTRICT:
(66% reporting):
Marilyn Lands (D)- 64.7%
Teddy Powell (R)- 35.3%
Powell has already conceded
Wow, I can't believe random Republicans on Twitter are so desperate that they're slipping to accusing Kamala Harris of being an alcoholic.
Wait this guy is Donald Trump's political director? THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN IS PUSHING THIS?!? How screwed are they?
Elsewhere in North Carolina, moderate Democratic State Senator Mike Woodard is on track to lose to his progressive challenger (Sophia Chitlik) in his Biden+59 seat. He's currently down 57-42.
Woodard attracted fury from Dems for voting to override Governor Cooper's vetoes.
Missouri voted to legalize recreational marijuana on Tuesday by just over six points. The vote passed by huge margins in urban/suburban areas, enough to offset big rural losses.
Brandon Presley did something no Mississippi Democratic Governor nominee has done since Jimmy Carter's Presidency, he won Forrest County.
Consisting of the city of Hattiesburg and surrounding communities, Presley won this Trump+11 county by 135 votes!
Super early, but Dean Phillips is currently in fourth place in Michigan behind: The President, the idea of a non-Joe Biden candidate, and the crystal orb lady who dropped out weeks ago.
Never has a candidate been so cooked
For Harvey Milk Day, I decided to map an initiative he was crucial in defeating, the Briggs Initiative. If it passed, it would have banned gays and lesbians from working in California schools, but thanks to the hard work of Milk and other activists, it failed by almost 20 points.
Big state legislative news out of Kentucky, moderate Republican State Rep Killian Timoney just got blown out in his primary by a far-right opponent named Thomas Jefferson.
This means Timoney's Trump+3/Beshear+13 district in the Lexington area is now a prime Democratic target.
The San Francisco School Board recall is amazing because it's essentially become a "choose your own ending" for why they got recalled
Wow they got recalled because of my personal pet issue, what a stunning turn of events
Plantiffs in Wisconsin's legislative redistricting case have posted their remedial map submissions. Here's how they breakdown with the 2020 Presidential vote:
ASSEMBLY (Left)- Biden- 51, Trump- 48
SENATE (Right)- Biden- 18, Trump- 15
Comparing safe D state Republican nominees to safe R state Democratic nominees is wild. Places like Alabama, Nebraska, and Oklahoma all have moderate Dems running.
Meanwhile, Illinois and New York have two of the most far-right nominees in the country!
Lee Zeldin is now going to an event headlined by Trump while campaigning for governor of New York, after having voted to overturn the results of the last presidential election. What’s up with how the GOP chose its blue state nominees this cycle?!
Cal 3 was a proposed California ballot initiative that would split California into three different states. Despite it being backed by conservative activists, the proposal would have created three pretty Democratic states (the most competitive being SoCal, which Biden won by 10).
Nothing quite like the tact and grace of an
@NHGOP
State Rep on the steps of the people's house. Say hello to
@SusanDeLemus
engaging peaceful protestors this morning.

FINAL RESULTS OUT OF TENNESSEE'S
#HD51
SPECIAL ELECTION:
Aftyn Behn (D)- 74.9%
David Hooven (R)- 22.4%
Anabelle Lee (IND)- 2.7%
The Dems win this Biden+45 seat by 52!
There was once a State Senate election where one candidate murdered the other one. In Tennessee circa 1998, Byron Looper murdered his opponent (incumbent Tommy Burks) a month before election day. Burks's wife Charlotte then ran as a write-in and easily defeated Looper 96%-4%.
Stephanie Byers has officially won her primary in Kansas's
#HD86
! She is not facing any opponents in November and will become Kansas's first ever transgender state legislator!!!
I remember back in 2017-2018 when Democrats overperformed by like 10-20 points in Trump+30-40 seats and people were like "WOAH BLUE WAVE TIME BABY!"
And now when they do that everyone goes:
Early vote just dropped in Houston and one of the last remaining anti-LGBTQ Democrats in the State House is in serious trouble in
#HD146
:
Lauren Simmons- 60.3%
Shawn Thierry (Inc)- 39.7%
This would be doubly sweet as Simmons is openly LGTBQ herself!
With ALL the vote in, it appears that conservadem North Carolina State Rep Michael Wray has LOST his primary in
#HD27
by just 42 VOTES!
Rodney Pierce- 50.18% (5,980 Votes)
Michael Wray (Inc)- 49.82% (5,938 Votes)
Down goes one of the last Dems to vote for the Bathroom Bill.
@mtgreenee
Fam, you win what is tantamount to election to Congress and you spend the victory night going after an 18 year old on Twitter?
Let me guess, you saw the John Lewis profile picture and immediately saw red. That'd be very on brand for you.
I mean, I don't know what to say, this is just blatantly terrible from the folks over at RRH.
Like it's not even a dogwhistle, it's a foghorn at this point.
Nebraska voted to raise their minimum wage to $15/hour this year by a surprisingly large margin. The measure passed by 17 points, winning in urban, suburban, and even some rural areas!
@decunningham2
Damn, I forgot that time in 2001 where thousands of Al Gore supporters stormed the Capitol while he was presiding over the counting of his loss.
Oh wait...
The Washington State Senator who went to El Salvador to oversee a probably a rigged election for a wannabe dictator only to catch Covid, fly to Florida, and then ghost everyone for a month before dying is definitely the weirdest state legislator story I've heard this year.
So 2022 was a pretty bad year for the remaining rural Democrats in State Legislatures across the country right? Well, there were a few exceptions...
One of those exceptions came in rural North Dakota, where Alisa Mitskog was able to hold on to her Trump+32 seat by 85 votes!
Screw it, hot take time. Jared Moskowitz is the worst Democrat in the caucus and it’s not even close.
No amount of “trolling the cons” can distract from him going crazy on his fellow Dems who may have some qualms about sending money to a government led by Netanyahu
It’s incredible that Moskowitz is taking this fake conciliator tone here, while having started the argument on Twitter and simultaneously liking this tweet:
@DrewSav
Theory is whatever book these puritans have read that makes them think that they're better than an actual elected official who has been able to push democratic socialist ideas more successfully than any other politician in recently.
While this guy *checks notes* has a podcast.
The Wisconsin Democrats are probably going to flip a lot of seats on the new Assembly map, but one seat they're almost certain to flip is the new
#AD73
.
This seat, which covers major Democratic areas along Lake Superior, backed Biden by 18 and Governor Evers by 24!
Quick map of the 2023 Chicago Mayoral election by City Council district. Johnson did best on the south and west sides, while Vallas did best in heavily-white and some Hispanic wards.
(Blue = Johnson, Red = Vallas)
Rep. Lauren Boebert called the 73-year-old Montrose native with a background in farming and mining a “super-woke social liberal.”
His response: “I have no idea what that means.”

@nickroberts317
made history this month when he won a seat on the Indianapolis City Council! Roberts won District 4, an upscale area of the city, by seven points.
With the win, Roberts will become the youngest City Councilperson in a major city at only 23!
Final Michigan special election result of the night from
#HD13
, the Biden+28 seat covering parts of Warren & northern Detroit:
Mai Xiong (D)- 65.6%
Ronald Singer (R)- 34.4%
So the Michigan Democrats go 2 for 2 on overperforming President Biden tonight!
And all it took was comparing Democrats to pedophiles, insinuating nurses weren't real, and making fun of candidates for wearing makeup.
Real stand up group of people there
Merry Christmas everybody! To celebrate, here's a map of Illinois's most competitive Congressional election this year in
#IL17
. Democratic weatherman Eric Sorensen defeated Republican Esther Joy King by four points here to keep this district in Democratic hands.
I see we've reached the point of Twitter's downfall where we're getting apologia for the lynching of Emmett Till.
God I wonder why advertisers are fleeing this hellsite en masse
In the coalfields of southwest Virginia, the Democrats were able to flip a County Sheriff's office!
Yes, you heard that right, in Buchanan County (which backed Trump by nearly 70), the incumbent Democrat-turned-Republican Sheriff John McClanahan lost by 20 points this month!
In 2010, Harry Reid overcame a polling deficit and a terrible national environment to hold on to his Senate seat. Reid's combination of his political machine, a terrible opponent, and incumbency led him to win by nearly 6 points.
Al Gore's hometown of Carthage, Tennessee is a pretty good example of the floor for Democrats continuing to fall out in the south. Clinton lost it 34-62 in 2016, but Biden lost it 29-69 this year.
Obama won it 50-46 just 8 years ago!
The Michigan State Representative who was arrested at 3:00 AM in the morning after being found chasing an adult dancer with a gun is currently losing his primary by nearly 16 points.
Let's celebrate the new Wisconsin Legislative maps with a map of the State Assembly's new median district,
#AD85
!
This Wausau-based district backed Trump by 0.5% in 2020 before backing Governor Evers by 1% in 2022. If the Dems win here this year, they've likely won the chamber.
