@JomboyMedia
Sometimes I think this account just takes wild guesses at the rules of baseball to see how many other people also do t know the rules.
This is not a balk even though the penalty is the same. It is a catchers equipment violation and all runners awarded 1 base as a result.
@PitchingNinja
A- It happens
B-yes it was a strike
C-it happened because the catcher has to quiet that glove down to minimize the IT happening. Way too much movement with the glove.
@coolarrow9
@hgomez27
@JomboyMedia
This is incorrect…it is not officially foul until it is touched in some manor by player or object or passs 1st or 3rd completely in foul
@TalkinBaseball_
The rule is at the start of delivery, 2 feet on inf dirt, at ball release both feet completely on their side of 2b. Unpire Bill Miller improperly enforced the rule at start of delivery and not at ball release
@PitchingNinja
Well the 2nd pitch is an illegal delivery and is exactly the one that MLB wants enforced this season. I would assume the crews will be getting an update with this video specifically.
We ok with your partner giving this effort? Pretty obvious missed tag. The fielder & runner were shocked. Let’s move our feet act like we give a damn. This video angers me.

That is incorrect. On a tag play between home / first base, a batter-runner may retreat toward home plate to evade a tag, but shall be out after touching or passing home plate, or leaving the base line (3 feet). The ball is live.
@JomboyMedia
@TalkinBaseball_
Scary how many people love baseball, but don’t have any rules knowledge. Runner must always and absolutely avoid contact with any fielder while in act of fielding ball. Every, single, time. Moreover, the runner should’ve been ejected.
@TalkinBaseball_
He threw at the head of a player few games ago, throws inside at a player who clearly owns Mets pitching, gets warned which said point of warning is next batter hit is an ejection, hits batter, doesn’t get ejected. This is a bad look.
@Delmauro30
@JomboyMedia
The pitchers glove must be….wait for it…1 color, no 2 tone gloves allowed. It wasn’t the color, it’s the fact that there are 2 of them
@JomboyMedia
Hunter Wendelstedt gets free passes on this stuff alot. I will tell you this call is missed because of his stance. His head is as high as the batter. He cant properly see that pitch location. He would never teach nor accept this at his school & it’s a terrible look here. 🤷♂️
@KendallRogers
@NCAA
Did an elite PG NIT tourney last week 14u division (basically 8th graders)
Almost all were verbally committed. Coaches pushed hard to get out in front of this
@michael_schlact
Immediate ejection. Whatever thought process & excuse that was going to come out of the coach’s mouth following the ejection would most likely have the coach following the player to the parking lot right after.
Rung a batter up strike 3 outside black. Batter reaches across plate & draws line in dirt in LH box where he thought ball was. I toss him. Coach argues w/me & says he was just showing me where the pitch was. That’s cool I say, I’m just showing his parents how to beat traffic home
@umpjob
You know that was your beloved auto robots call right? Tell me you know that? Tell me you will use this horrible example of robot umpires next time you post about them
Pretty bad missed call in the field. Great job correcting it. Bad job by HPU allowing mngr to chase partner. Shit job by coach who shouldn’t see a field again. Disaster
Runner gets nailed at plate so naturally the coach who sent him makes a spectacle of it all. Great call & composure by HPU. Photo of the out in comments.

It’s not a “rule change” however. It’s always been illegal. You could watch an MLB game last season for example and see 10 or more balks not called as well as illegal pitches. Selective enforcement
@JomboyMedia
It’s one of the hardest calls. When you get a check swing motion, ball near the bat, & a double sound, it’s foul 99.99% of the time….you just saw the .01. You can’t see it & Rocco kinda made an ass of himself here on an impossible call. Buts that’s on MLBs weird replay rules
Mondays after tourneys cause me to reflect on my biggest pet peeves.

- Coaches loudly arguing a rule, when they have no idea what the actual rule is.
Pro tip- Ask Ump what he has there & what the actual rule is. Continued….
You would be severely graded down in, oh let’s say Wendelstedt Umpire School for example, for standing that high in the slot. Can’t possibly see the knee high corner.

There is no “base line” for running purposes….the line only serves as fair/foul. There is a base path which is always determined by the runner & changes every time he changes …he can veer 3 feet from his set base path anymore then out of base PATH applies
Runner never touched 1b, by rule he is assumed safe until there is an obvious appeal of the runner b4 he retouches. In all my years I’ve only see a 1b do this the right way 1 time.

You’re really going to hate it as this is an incoming rule next year in NCAA/NFHS. Basically any batter who flips/throws bat out of dirt circle or in judgement of Ump at or near opposing players will be ejected. Debate as it may be warning 1st manager ejection 2nd time
The “flinch” or the start/stop balk. Very subtle. Never take your eyes off the pitcher. Hunter had the “did I just see that” pause then reacts. The catcher was hoping it was missed.

Older video but great teaching moment for young umps. NC State’s Trea Turner called out at home but I think we can all agree this was terrible mechanics that lead to this. Regardless of safe/out, the perception was he didn’t see it. I don’t really think he did
We’ve all seen this by now. I will say it..Dan Bellino absolutely should be reprimanded/etc in accordance with Assoc. rules. This is absolutely ridiculous. Even post ejection to just stand there & remain involved in the verbal. Embarrassing.

Well in my judgement he accelerated, lowered shoulder, and purposely and intentionally struck the fielder…for what purpose? To round 1st on a pop up in foul territory. Worse I want to get ahead of the potential beaning incident in the next at bat.
You will know if Ump has no clue what he is talking about & you can then proceed further.
Passed ball R3 crosses plate , P not there yet throw hits him in helmet. “He’s gotta slide blue”. No, he doesn’t. Coach ejected all because he doesn’t know the rules.
Travel ball coaches, not sure which of you need to hear this, but stop having your 2b back up 1b on a ball hit to the left side of the Inf. 3b/ss towards the ball, 2b to 2b in case of said overthrow, rf backs up 1b. Screening the Ump on the play as they run across isn’t wise
Love how they call these “the new rules.” Rule has always existed, but MLB randomly stops enforcing certain rules for some reason they decided to re-enforce them
UNC coach ejected after arguing this “potential INF Fly.
1st/2nd ✅
Less than 2 outs ✅
Fly ball in the inf w/ an apex to it ✅
Player “camped” under ball able to make catch w/ “routine effort” ❌
Tough play-rules properly applied

Correct call Ofcourse. Every time I have to call this balk, you see the exact same reaction from the P, C, and coach. They swear it didn’t happen. Every. Single. Time. We are always the only ones on the field who see it.

W/O seeing it live which of course makes a difference, if you felt it wasn’t deliberate I think no call was the right call.
I’m sure you & your partner were the only ones there that even knew the rule anyway.

Potentially...discretion of umpire at that time. But, if he gave up & just stood on base line & no one tagged him, he wouldn’t be out for giving up. No blk/why rule where he is out on this play. Only discretion he went outside of the 3 feet
@CodifyBaseball
I have to say the enforcement of the rule here is technically incorrect. The runner had a path to the base. Umpire here was moving late and nit in the best position. Better to not call it then over call it
@xanbarksdale
Lazy mlb level, ofcourse not. Lrg amount of 12-14 yr olds do it w/o properly taught or know the why. Alarming amount of 14-16 yr olds just sit okd & never move. I have the bruises to prove it. It’s not properly taught at a youth level by a long shot. Bad OKD habits develop early
@HWumpireschool
Point….So much so that I was once asked to do Little League regionals and possibly Williamsport …BUT…LL only allows hammer so I would have to change mechanics. I laughed and said I’m not a softball umpire give it to the next guy
My 2 favorite parts- making the call with 1 hand on his hip not even looking at the completion of the play & the look base runner is giving like what just happened
