The Scottish Government propose new drug policy reforms! Please watch and share - this is what it means:
Thank you everyone who’s shared this video, especially directing towards people and politicians who may have made disparaging comments about the need for drug law reforms. When the Scottish government announced their proposals, it was an emotional moment
Lessons from this social media post:
1.Don’t exploit vulnerable people for sake of a social media post
2.Let’s have compassionate, appropriately responsible policing
3.Let’s have safe consumption rooms so that people can be looked after
4.Let’s not compound problems via arrest
This gentleman learnt 3 valuable lessons today;
1. Don’t smoke heroin
2. Don’t smoke heroin on the metrolink
3. Don’t smoke heroin on the metrolink in front of plain clothes police officers

Extremely disappointing comments from
@Keir_Starmer
on drug policy. We invite Mr Starmer to have a conversation with us - as an organisation of police, MI5, undercovers, Chief Constables, PCCs, we are able to convey why we urgently need evidence-based drug policy reform
Nonsense answer from Keir Starmer on the decriminalisation of cannabis.
“Drug gangs and criminality” aren’t a reason *against* decrim, they’re an argument for it.
We are 100% behind
@CarolineLucas
's Green Party calling for an overhaul of 'utterly failing' drug laws to cut prisoner numbers. Filling prisons with non-violent offenders and problematic drug users who need our support is ludicrous.
(

No matter what the crime and what the opinion is, we can’t allow ourselves to descend into this level of flippancy when it comes to criminal justice. The police service needs high standards of conduct, and this is as far away from that level as it can get.
We firmly support the Scottish Government’s proposals for drug policy reforms. We explain why in this article, please do take a look and share:

Yes, that’s right, Good Housekeeping asks: ‘Should we all be using cannabis?’
It’s fair to say the conversation around drug policy is stretching ever wider.
Top secret drug report supported decriminalisation.
Yet more examples of how the government ignored advice and continued in the pursuit of the politics of drug policy.
Disappointing and distressing response in this article from

and
@AnasSarwar

We invite them watch this video - this is why drug policy reform is so crucial:
We urge
@BorisJohnson
to actually assess evidence, as any policy should be based upon, as opposed to using ‘instinct’. Drug consumption rooms do not increase drug use, but they do save lives.
We must do better than this, in every single way:
The response to this honest and emotional video from retired Police Inspector Ian Andrew has been overwhelming. Thank you for all who’ve shared and directed it towards those who need to see it.
This is what drug law reform means to so many of us:
“The best thing about me, bar none, is if somebody comes up to me and says I can’t stop drinking, can you help me? I can yes and follow up and do it. And when I die I don’t want Friends to be the 1st thing that’s mentioned, I want that to be the 1st thing that’s mentioned”
Don't forget, the members of LEAP were the ones tasked with policing our drug laws. They know better than anyone just how harmful punitive drug laws are. This is why we welcome today's announcement for reform by the Scottish Government

"I am a firm believer that people addicted to drugs should be referred to the health service for help as opposed to being dealt with as criminals by the police."
- Arfon Jones, Police and Crime Comissioner, North Wales
Seriously questionable. Not only is there no law which requires participation in random swab tests, but this is another way in which the police could have yet more erosion of trust between the service and public.
We strongly advise against this style of social media. We’d like the author to consider deleting. Not only is it counterproductive & highlights policing failures, but it doesn’t help the public to understand the complex nature of policing and community in relation to drug policy
"If drug misusers' issues were dealt with as a health problem, rather than as a criminal justice problem, we're likelier to have a much healthier and better society as a consequence.”

We really are aiming to have most bizarre and incredulous drug policy in the world aren’t we? Sometimes it’s hard to believe how out of touch with evidence policy makers are.
We’ve expressed concerns over comments and positions of
@Keir_Starmer
and his latest speech gives us even more concern. We have to get away from the political rhetoric of ‘tough on crime’, we need far more holistic and nuanced approaches. Especially with drug policy.
The Conservative government has been "soft" on anti-social behaviour in working-class communities Sir Keir Starmer says.

In many ways this is likely to create more harms.

Earlier this year I promised to crack down on anti-social behaviour, to create a better future for our children and grandchildren.
I’m delivering on that promise.
