@roselynaguila @lisamdanish @schoppik It varies a lot by institution. At top tier places, you had better work MUCH more than 40 hrs/wk as a grad student or you will not be taken seriously. At lower tier places, grad students as a whole do not average 40 hr weeks.

I shared a tweet recently where a guy made a comment about my bum. A couple of my close male friends told me to ignore it, to not rise to it. And they had the best of intentions. But the thing is, by not calling it out, we let them get away with it, and it becomes normalised.

We should do ceratopsid taxonomy and systematics using other parts of the skeleton, not just epiossofications that change shape with ontogeny.

Being in the field in Morocco is so amazing. Everyone is incredibly hospitable. Today we got lunch brought to us by someone who lives close by. And he leant us another field assistant (bit rubbish at digging due to lack of opposable thumbs but good at carrying)

Pro tip: of you're thinking about coining a new term in your discipline, run it past a Brit first, just to check it doesn't mean something in Brit slang. There's a lot of Brit slang #megaflaps

A couple of cool specimens just landed on my desk for #FossilFriday . The iconic claw of Baryonyx walkeri, and a distal tibia of a dinosaur, collected by William Smith (him of the map) and purchased by the museum in 1816 #nhmdino

Dippy is a cast of five specimens of Diplodocus, but is primarily based on a specimen found at Sheep Creek, Wyoming, in 1898. The @NHM_London cast went on display in 1905 and was the first sauropod on display anywhere in the world #DippyOnTour #NHMdino

"Perhaps the best dinosaur fossil ever discovered. So why has hardly anyone seen it?" @guardian : It's in a private collection. We don't work on specimens in private collections. It's never gonna be in a public collection with that ridiculous price tag.

Small child large bone. The femur of an undescribed sauropod, maybe referable Jobaria, in the @NHM_London dinosaur collections. Collected by a museum expedition to Niger in the early 1980s. Offspring for scale. #FossilFriday #nhmdino

I'm a vertebrate palaeontologist. Skills people think I have: - knowing who would win in a fight between Ankylosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Skills I actually have: - explaining why I don't give a shit if your purple plush velociraptor is scientifically accurate

I'm an entomologist Skills people think I have: - identify any insect or spider from a blurry photo - identify what bit them Skills I actually have: - Googling the right words to get an image search close to the bug you photographed - finding weird bugs that no-one else notices
