Over one year ago I visited Mickey’s Toontown on its final day of operation with the express purpose of photographing every square inch of the land.
Last week I repeated the process.
In this 🧵 I’ll be showcasing pictures taken on the east side of the land—Downtown Toontown.

Till recently, I’m not sure they’d’ve had the adequate staffing. A buddy of mine worked on this—he was part of a newly-recruited batch of animators, brought in to learn from the old masters. First group of new hires since the department was gutted in 2011, to my understanding.
Not a before and after, but still wanted to share these closeups of the postage posted above the post office. I’ve always loved this stamp—which actually appears in Toontown Online if you know where to look—but had never even noticed Roger!
On the left, the Toontown Clock Repair Shop—and conjoining office space—already behind walls and ready for work to begin.
On the right, the clock repair shop unveiled with a fresh coat of paint.
The EngineEar Souvenirs Shop at TOONTOWN features multiple nods to places from multiple Disney TVA - Mickey Mouse Series such as DUCKTALES, MICKEY MOUSE MIXED-UP ADVENTURES, MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE, MICKEY MOUSE FUNHOUSE & HOUSE OF MOUSE
I know I touched on this once briefly, but now I’m doing it again, and you’re all powerless to stop me! Let’s take another look at the hills behind
#ToonTown
!
(1/2) Recently finished Green Eggs & Ham, and leave it to WB to get Seuss so right! Never have I seen a better Seuss adaption since the days of Seuss himself! And considering the source material—that’s a pretty impressive feat! Stretching out what genuinely amounts…
With the release of Once Upon A Studio fast approaching, I thought it might be fun to speculate who might be appearing—including some decidedly less obvious choices! A🧵
A favorite seasonal piece of mine (as if you couldn’t already tell!)—a parody of Norman Rockwell’s “Freedom from Want” by Disney artist, Charles Boyer.
Likewise, I didn’t manage to snag pictures of these interactive elements in ‘22, however all except the mailbox remain virtually unchanged. The mailbox was relocated to this spot from its former pedestal outside the Toontown Post Office.
Alright. I’m getting on my soapbox. I don’t care if I lose followers, it needs to be said. Horace Horsecollar is the single most underrated and under-appreciated character in the entire Disney library, and deserves at least as much love and recognition as Clarabelle Cow.
Now more clearly visible, thanks to new footage released during the past weekend’s

, is this structure inspired by Walt’s Carolwood Barn, seen here in “Tokyo Go” (2013), and in reality.

The Clawthorne clan were known for their palisman making skills. Pretty sure Flapjack was carved by a member of their family. Just lends further credence to Edalyn and Evelyn being related.
And lastly, credit to
@InnoVision3D
for catching the cleverly disguised “WDI” worked into the distant mountains, replacing the former nod to Walt Disney Imagineering previously situated behind Minnie’s house.
Commission piece done by the infinitely talented
@trickortreart
! Ain’t it a beaut!? Just lookit that exquisite linework! That glorious color palette! She even done two different backgrounds for me! Let’s give her a hand!
WDI may still be hard at work bringing Toontown to life, but before the real thing is unveiled this March, I’d like to take a few moments to point out some of my favorite details as showcased in this concept art by
@jschwartz1984

I just realized Chris Diamantopoulos is credited as Mickey here rather than Bret Iwan, marking the first instance he’s played the character outside the Ruddish shorts—DuckTales ‘17 notwithstanding—and the first time he’s leant his voice to the “classic” version of the character.
Continuing with this previously released image of the Goof estate, we find nods to Goofy’s son Max, and Powerline from “A Goofy Movie,” the latter of which would not have existed at the time of Toontown’s original, 1993 opening.
So I heard Muppet*Vision turned 30 years today! To commemorate I wanna celebrate my favorite, long-eared, long-beleaguered Muppet character—Bean Bunny! I’d love to see him again, but I don’t take it’ll happen any time soon without Steve Whitmire and all. We miss ya, Bean!
I TOLD-I SAY, I TOLD YA TO STOP TAX SHELVIN' THE MOVIES, BOY! BUT YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO ME, DID YA BOY? NOW YOU GOT THE GOVERNMENT AT YOUR DOOR! I SAID THE FEDS, BOY!
I SAY YOU'RE GONNA COOK THIS COMPANY FASTER THAN THE COLONEL AT A HENHOUSE!
(2/2) …to a very basic idea into a captivating, heartwarming, and truly inspired long-form storytelling device—packed with MYSTERY, INTRIGUE, ROMANCE—all while retaining AND emphasizing its most central elements! Thanks to
@corvivacious
for convincing me to try something new!
