Today, we undertook the task of cleaning up the area around the Virupaksha temple. A special thank you to @yuva_brigade and all the local kids who helped in this endeavour.

Whoever is in charge of the conservation of Hampi needs to get their priorities in order. An entire section of the wall collapsed today and they’ve authorised the drilling for a borewell about 50 metres from it. @ASIGoI

The kings balance. The king would weigh himself with gold,gems and silver and then donate them to temples as charity.

Some wise words from Sri Krishna Devaraya. I suppose it’s applicable for any leader.

A description of Haider Ali’s visit in 1776. A laudable gesture on his part, However his son, Tippu sultan orders the burning of the ancient palace of Anegundi. From ‘History of Mysore 1399-1799 A.D.’ By C. Hayavadana Rao & From the notes of Colin Mackenzie in the British Library

Many of Hampi's temples, once majestic symbols of our heritage, now lie in neglect. Our history deserves more respect and preservation. #Hampi @TirumalaDevara3 @LostTemple7 @ReclaimTemples

Sri Krishnadevaraya transformed Vidyanagara into Vijayanagara, and we have transformed Vijayanagara into Vinashanagara through civilizational amnesia.

@Abhi10355244 @vschanna The lands south of the river Tungabhadra were taken by the British and they paid a yearly pension to the Raja. The Raja had to pay tribute to the Nizam but was largely autonomous.
