ASMR isn't a hard idea. Take death rates (as obviously more living people naturally have more deaths) by age (as obviously older people have more deaths) and apply them to a standard population (as obviously you should compare the same amount of each). Best practice for 250 years

How I am feeling, at a gut level: NZ is on a roof The US & UK (I know, not everyone) are down on the street chanting "Jump,Jump,Jump". NZ, having just see what happened to AU when it jumped a moment ago, decides to make a controlled descent by taking the stairs. US/UK frustrated

I think there is a very urgent moral obligiation for the NZ Government to take on supporting Tonga- we are the largest country that can help that would not be introducing Omicron on top of other problems.

I just did a count up, and since the start of April 2020, New Zealanders have been able to live their lives with an openness and a relaxation based on 410 days of zero covid cases in the community. So to keep that freedom, and save lives, we are sharing in staying home for a bit

So New Zealand now, 48 hours in, has the likely patient zero, most of the cases in-between identified, and the security that cases that develop right now will do so in isolation. That's how it's done.

It is just 1 day, but it is a day of very simple maths. NZ 12+ is a shade over 96% vaxed, rounding down in the unvaxed favour that is 96% vaxed, 4% unvaxed. On a day when 4 unvaxed were hospitalised, if vaccines did nothing, there would be 96 unvaxed hospitalised. There were 2

I think what best fits the evidence is that it is functional contact tracing. But that contact tracing is only functional because MiQ has stopped more than 700 introductions of Omicron, so contract tracing is chasing 1 linked virus family rather than 700+ unrelated outbreaks.
