Storm surge can cause major damage to your home and pose a significant threat for drownings - making it one of the greatest threats to life and property from a hurricane. Listen to local officials and evacuate immediately if told to do so.
During a tornado, seeking refuge in a vehicle or under an overpass is NOT safe. If you are outside during a tornado warning, the best option is to drive to a designated shelter, basement, or safe room.

NEVER drive around barricades into floodwaters! Most flood fatalities are vehicle-related. It takes only 12 inches of fast-moving water to carry off a small car and 18 inches of water to sweep a larger vehicle away. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
Be careful when cleaning up after a hurricane. Cleanup slowly, taking lots of breaks to avoid straining your body. Be very careful with chainsaws & other power tools. Make sure to stay safe in the heat by staying hydrated, taking breaks in the shade or AC.
