Here's my advanced warning for Minden, Iowa—a town that was devastated by a tornado earlier today. On Ryan's stream I noticed a pattern in the storm structure on radar 9 minutes before the tornado formed and talked about its potential. It hit Minden 11 minutes later, as shown.

Today I had a 6 minute early callout for the tornadic circulation that would significantly impact southern portions of Slidell, LA. This tornado forced NWS New Orleans to take shelter & they lost power, which interrupted radar updates. Thus, an early warning was much needed!

Here's the May 26th Mountain View, MO tornado displaying a helical vortex structure as it destroys a building at the 10 second mark in the video, at about 5:46pm CT. Upon impacting the building, the roar of the tornado becomes audible. We helped clear some houses after this.

The 5.1 California earthquake occurring simultaneously with Hilary is TERRIBLE for public science relations. On a basic level, the weight of the crust of the earth is orders of magnitude greater than the rain falling—the earthquake DID NOT happen because of the storm.

Here's a radar loop of my entire storm chase yesterday! I spent over 5 hours following this supercell and saw both the Custer City and Yukon, OK tornadoes. It was nonstop action—being in a tornado emergency and later monitoring highly deviant tornado motion in the dark.

A few minutes before this image, the tornado was a wide wedge—but just as it entered the town of Matador, TX the vortex appears to have contracted while occluding. Unfortunately, that means a localized area of much greater wind speeds due to the conservation of angular momentum.
