We’re overwhelmingly chuffed, and a bit shocked, to find out we’ve been named
@BradfordCamra
Pub of The Year 2020.
Hospitality all looks a bit uncertain at the moment so this is a such a wonderful boost for all of…
We are finally barrierless!
After 6 months and a day!
We still have some cones for company just to remind us of the olden times…
Here til 10pm tonight.
We shall be reopening this Friday at 2pm!
No bookings. Walk ins only. And all the Covid safety procedures you’ve come to know and tolerate.
More vinyl. More ale. More ham...
The prospect of hospitality venues, who’ve enforced every single rule change since March being forced to close, whilst all around, shops, shopping centres, and markets who’ve turned a blind eye will be allowed to stay open is a farce. Enforce the current rules. No lockdown. ✊🏻
Closing hospitality venues who’ve stuck rigidly to the to the rules and actually enforced them and linked to zero cases since reopening. Whilst allowing shops and supermarkets to stay open who enforce nothing. There’s zero enforcing anywhere outside of hospitality.
The last day of 2023, and a huge thank you to all who’ve supported us over the year. Thank you.
We’re here 2-7pm this Sunday, then having a few days rest.
Back open Friday 5th at 4pm.
Happy New Year. Here’s to 2024.
Reflections. Another day of cleaning. Getting the place ship shape. Record Café shape. Reopening August 15th to meet all your vinyl, ale and ham needs in a brave new world.
But an enforced closure when we’ve gone above and beyond following the rules in a city with one of the highest rates. Where others have turned a blind eye and carried on regardless. To be singled out. Would be too much. Enforce the rules. No lockdown. Anyway. Customers to serve.
We’re heading back into the fray.
With all the added social distancing and safety features you’ve come to know and love!

In the meantime, wash your hands. Wear your mask. Be kind.
So. We’ll be closing the bar side of things at the close of play tonight for the foreseeable. Will have to process this and look at the record shop and beer takeouts / deliveries. In the meantime. Look after each other. And let’s get through this.
Heading into work to do an interview with ITV. Not sure why I keep getting asked, but future media appearances might have to start going via my agent...
I’ve not complained once. Since March about closing. Losing thousands in stock. Paying rent and bills whilst closed. Enforcing the ever changing rules. All the extra workload and hours. Stress. Just got on with it. For the good of ourselves. Customers. And relatives.... (1/2)
Thank you so much to everyone that has supported us. Especially at the moment. From all of us here. And thanks to
@BradfordCamra
again!
#puboftheyear2020
Apologies for being over the local media a bit today and tomorrow, but if it helps get the point over on behalf of others in hospitality then it’s worth it. Also, I can do a good ‘looking sad next to an empty beer pump’ for the camera.
First shift of wearing a face mask. Only 7 hours but forgot I was wearing one after the first couple. We’ll be wearing them for 10/12+ hours a day. So the 30 seconds from door to table should not be an issue. Thanks to all that have been in today and been ace! Let’s keep it up!
Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Social distance. Stick to one household and support bubble in BD1. None of this is hard. Those that don’t, hurt those that have been following the rules all along. And this is where we’ll be heading. No excuses now.
The Record Café Deli is now up and running.
Everything available for takeout at take home prices.
Grab something from the fridge at 20% takeout discount and a record to recreate the Record Café vinyl ale ham hat trick experience in home!
Just came in to water the hanging baskets and ended up being interviewed by The Express. They soon found out they were dealing with a seasoned pro when I brought out my best stances for the photos. See if they make the front page tomorrow...
It’s Allan’s last day here at The Record Café! After 8 years he’s off to start his own venture taking over at Franco’s in Shipley. And we wish him all the best. He will be hugely missed. Allan is an amazing human, best friend and one of the main reasons why you all like it here!
Re-opening news.
It will be another couple of weeks before we open the doors, as opposed to Monday 17th.
This gives us time to finish making the changes to try to make The Record Café better than ever, and also assure us that when we do reopen, we can stay open this time!
Over at
@thesparrowbd1
to say bye to Les. He helped me loads when we first opened and was the inspiration (along with Marko) to try and help make something good in Bradford. Right. Having…
Left the house for the first time since Thursday to come and clean and close down the cellar. Slightly confused by the amount of shops open. People about and lack of masks. Wasn’t there a lockdown announced recently?
Afternoon all!
A reminder that we won’t be reopening this weekend, and we’re holding off for a while. Especially the way things are at the moment. We still don’t feel it’s safe for you and us, and wouldn’t want to…
I hope our fellow hospitality, music and beery folk and everyone in the supply chains are bearing up ok this evening. There’s always a way through this.
We urge you not to panic buy vinyl, ale and ham!
We have enough stock for everyone and are working very hard between the hours of 11am and 11pm today to meet demand.
So again, please, do not panic buy vinyl, ale and ham.
The Record Café team.
Chuffed that our T-shirt’s finally made it over the water to the fine folk at
@tbones_cafe
in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Maybe one day we can visit in person!! Café and records? Ace!
How can you plan when you don’t know what Tier you’ll be in. And that Tier could then change any time. Then the government could change it all on a whim, as they’ve done on a weekly basis. Whilst all around those who’ve ignored the rules anyway are free to carry on regardless!
We’re opening earlier - at 12pm - today and closing at 7pm as usual.
Same opening hours as normal Monday to Wednesday.
So that’s 4 days of vinyl, ale and ham with us looking after you making sure you’re safe, happy and cosy!
I sweep up of hose down outside every morning. We sweep after the furniture has been out on a night. I Pick litter up outside and have had to go out and tell countless people to pick the litter up they’ve dropped as they walk by or out of cars...
@HelenMeadTandA
Anyway. Hate delving into all this stuff. It’s not what we’re about. We’re about good vibes and positivity. Not this nonsense. But blimey, it’s hard not to right now.
Thanks for the kind words everyone!
We found our we’d won in March, and had planned a nice celebration do in May. A week later we were closed and in lockdown. So it was a low key plaque handover today. A bookend to a bizarre 6 months.
Spend the money enforcing the current rules being ignored elsewhere. Not paying hospitality to close. The very people who’ve been the only ones enforcing anything, and have just got back on their feet making a financial contribution to the economy again.
Now we know what we’re doing - for the next week or so at least - here’s today’s social media post...
We can now tap and vent the casks we’ve been sitting on over the weekend too!
Open til 9pm
Follow the rules and bring only good vibes.
Flashbacks to just how horrendous March was and the week leading up to being told to close. And indeed the first few weeks of tears and worry after that. And it’s still pretty scary now. Follow the lockdown rules folks.

@ChefTomKerridge
If you are venturing out this weekend, then in light of the new legislation, please respect the venues, staff and each other. Only go with people from your household or social bubble. Don’t try pulling a fast one, as we all want to get back to normal as quickly as possible!
Wishing you all the merriest of merry Christmasses…
We’re here today from 2-7pm and Santa’s even delved into his sack and brought us two ace beers from
@trackbrewingco
and
@pinta

Possible Christmas songs…
The hospitality venues I’ve visited since the rules were relaxed have all acted impeccably. Felt safe in every one and customers observing the guidelines for everyone’s mutual benefit. So we can all get through this. They really don’t deserve this setback.
Local home delivery service. Delivering vinyl, ale and probably ham soon, to your door...
In the meantime, it’s still business as usual back at base with the new caveats of social distancing and responsibility in…
We’ll be receiving the latest addition to Plaque Corner tomorrow from
@bfdcamra
at 2pm, as we’re presented with our Central Bradford Pub of the Year 2022 plaque.
Come along and see us pose for photos, and if that’s not enough, we’ll have Italian food from Allan!

We’re closed and going into hibernation til this is all over.
Keep safe, don’t go out if you don’t have to, wash your hands and do as your told so this will all be over quicker for all of us!
See you all on the…

Thanks as always to

for organising!
Next month. It’s our 7th birthday! Woooo!
We’ve got a host of friends joining us, as we look to put a rubbish 18 months behind us and celebrate vinyl, ale and ham since 2014!
New cheese alert!
A classic Mahón cheese from Menorca.
Moulded by hand, rich buttery, creamy cows milk cheese with a paprika washed rind.
Goes perfectly with a PX sherry.

The whole process of announcements being scheduled and leaked as if they’re revealing the Strictly Come Dancing results is doing no one any favours. What an absolute shambles. And why would businesses plan for anything with this track record of changing the rules every few weeks.
🧵 Very little confidence that Tier 3 would be enforced. Seen very little enforcement of Tier 2. Which Bradford has effectively been in for months. Yet the rates carry on rising. We’ve been doing everything by the book. And adapted the business to carry on trading. And keep jobs
Thanks to all who came today! It’s been a great start to this next chapter.
It’s going to take some getting used to, so please bear with us whilst be adjust. But here’s to tomorrow!!
To top it off, rumours of a Christmas free for all which would render all of this sacrifice pointless anyway, and repercussions lasting well into the new year!
Reopening Saturday 15th, here’s the very important small print to read and digest:
•Table service
•Card only
•Track and trace
•One household / support bubble inside (as per current local guidelines 13/8)
Record…
Is there any point reading about and planning for the new tiers, given that so far they’ve changed the rules just as you’ve worked out how to operate under them? And unless the area you’re in is going to open in Tier 1, this latest lockdown has been a complete waste of time.
