Today, my open qualifier run for Vegas is over. Regardless of if I won one or not, I can say for certain this was the most miserable competitive experience of my life. The adminning was great but this "path to GM" is absolute nonsense. Ladder>Opens and it's not even close.

@FenoHS Example showmatches of other potential formats might be interesting like RDU's strike or one where say certain cards are banned/removed/nerfed to simulate a slightly different meta. They could be good case studies to reference when pushing for something other than specialist.
