Is politically neutral news for Christians even possible??? 😤
It’s safe to say that media is broken. 💣
Like, even-duct-tape-can’t-fix-this broken. 💔
Here is what we decided to do about it....

BE DOERS:
Pray for the light of Christ to shine brightly in areas where there is so much division, anger, and bloodshed. Pray for the church to be a light, the hands and feet of Christ throughout the world.
TPO Reminder: It’s easy to become angry and indignant over world events, but much more difficult to live with the tension of desiring change while simultaneously loving everyone involved. Followers of Christ are called to live in that tension - loving the very people they oppose.
Footage of Tyre Nichols' encounter with Memphis Police has been released. Nichols died three days after the encounter, and five former officers are facing murder charges.

When discussing divisive topics, remember that both your stance and how you take your stance reflect on Christ. Believing that you're right is not an excuse to be harsh, impatient, or unkind.
"A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath." - Proverbs 15:1
Regardless of whether things get worse or better, everything eventually ends well for followers of Christ.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Philippians 4:4 (CSB)
“Loving your enemies” is not simply smiling at the coworker you dislike; it is praying for those you are fighting against, caring for the person you fundamentally disagree with, and forgiving an oppressor.
Even as you pray that convalescent plasma (or something still unknown) will save lives and end the pandemic, remember that God is good, in control, and that everything eventually ends well for followers of Christ.
While we are called to pursue justice here on earth, we can also take comfort that every injustice will ultimately be made right by our perfect Judge, King, and God.

It’s easy to feel helpless in a situation like this, but the Bible promises that prayer is powerful and effective; it causes things to happen that would not have happened otherwise.
Russia promised at peace talks to drastically scale down its military operations around Kyiv and the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, while Ukraine proposed neutral status with international guarantees to protect it from attack
The Pour Over started as a personal exercise to see if it was even possible to prioritize Christ over a political party while covering the same events as major news orgs.
How do we select these stories we pick?
It quickly became our mission to keep Christians informed on what’s happening in the world while remaining focused on Christ.
In Other Brews: Maryland doctors transplanted a pig’s genetically-modified heart into a human patient. David Bennet, 57, is doing well several days post-operation. Some scientists see gene-edited animal organs as the solution to long organ transplant waitlists.
We write about the biggest, most visible, news stories regardless of their spiritual significance as soon as they happen.
In fact, we often cover events despite their complete lack of any spiritual value or outright promotion of sin.

President Biden hopes to raise taxes on the ultrawealthy (households worth $100+ million) and corporations, and he has big plans for the extra cash.
The White House’s 2023 budget proposal includes increases to:
We then pair these stories with reminders of foundational Christian principles – see how we do that here.
It’s important to note that we don’t believe our way is better… it’s just different.
Does thinking about what you may have in common with someone who feels like an enemy help you love them better?
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
– and help them process it from a foundation of their faith.
That means we select stories differently than most Christian news sources.
In general, Christian news sources write three types of stories:
Put differently, we want readers of TPO to be aware of the same events they would learn about from major news sources
– the same events their non-Christian coworkers and classmates will be talking about
China has locked down Anyang, a city of 5.5M, after finding 2 cases of Omicron. In total, 3 Chinese cities home to 20 million people are in lockdown as China prepares to host the Winter Olympics. The lockdowns, part of China’s “zero-COVID” policy, are China’s broadest since 2020.

Quote of the Day: “The continual looking forward to the eternal world is not a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.” - C.S. Lewis
Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia resumed yesterday, this time in Turkey.
Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich attended the talks after reports that he and two Ukrainian delegates were possibly poisoned at negotiations earlier this month.
We’re so grateful for other Christian news sources and their ministries; we are simply trying to fill a different need.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ.
