When I was 14, I lost my Dad to alcohol. This year, it will be 15 years since we got that phone call. In his memory, and to raise money for one of his favourite charities, I will be giving up alcohol for January, I would appreciate any donations.

Was listening to a podcast about Supersize Me the other day and a key detail is that the doctors are like "wow, your liver is fucked, what is in McDonalds?" and the creator goes "wow, McDonalds kills livers" and about 5 years later he admitted he'd been an alcoholic at the time.

There's this myth that McDonalds is the very worst food you can eat, far worse than any other food and it's actually not much worse than something like Subway or indeed M&S sandwiches. It's just processed food like fucking everything we eat. Supersize Me was a scam.

About a decade ago, we got burgled and they stole my laptop. Luckily, I had installed tracking software, and could give the police the address of the fence they had taken it to. They went, told me it looked like a legitimate IT guy, and he told them it wasn't stolen.

@Adrianics4k So, the podcast also covers a number of other details: He usually walks a lot, but he cuts his steps to 5000 (what he claims is the average for an American). He lies a lot about the calories he eats, claiming 5000 a day, but you can't do that just eating 3 "meals" a day.

There's a lot of reasons to believe it will be a January 2025 election: Sunak is cowardly, they're praying something turns up, the economy might improve, but arguably the most convincing is: It means he goes on Wikipedia as Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister (2022-2025)

There is something distinctly unfeminist about the veneration of the womb as something other than an organ. The obsession with the womb as sacred is tied more into anti-abortion rhetoric than anything emancipatory.

Just as an observation on the whole is "X salary rich" discourse, I think my real observation is that when you earn above a certain amount you get to stop worrying about certain things, and that's a shift that doesn't make you feel rich, but is a genuine luxury people forget.

HS2 was always a waste of money for the North, anyway. If you want to get to London 30-minutes earlier, leave 30-minutes earlier. The problem is connections between and within Northern cities. Leeds is the biggest city in Europe without a light-rail or metro system.
