Don’t normally share stuff here but today I found out I somehow got 80/80 on my IMT interview?! So shocked I thought it was a glitch! All the love and thanks to the wonderful people who helped me prep - excited to be able to pick an IMT job with (hopefully) an ID rotation!
Only fitting that my first tweet is to say that I’m now a doctor!
Still doesn’t feel real but so grateful to everyone who supported me along the way and had faith in me even when I didn’t ❤️

Elective ✅
Aaaannnnddd I've just finished my last day of medical school! Lots of great cases, an even greater team and I've completely fallen in love with the specialty...
As if the next time I'm on a ward is when I'm an F1! 😲

Excited to announce my first lead-author publication on COVID and homelessness in BMC infectious diseases!
Thank you to
@DrNeilStone
@HTropDis
@uclh
&
@FindandTreat
for supporting me during my elective with this project +
@BintyRock
for supervising.
Thinking about when our medical school hosted a “Homelessness and Health” session and someone asked people who were formerly homeless what single thing got them a job, good health and security.
“A home”.
Life expectancy cut by 40 years and the solution really is that simple.
I remember a kid with multiple DKA episodes whose dad was struggling with no fridge to store his insulin.
How the heck do we have enough money for things like “eat out to help out” and still not solve basic housing healthcare issues like this?
Recalling a kiddo I saw weeks ago who presented with DKA. I ran through the 5 I's of DKA triggers in my head, ready to figure out his why.
Houseless & with no fridge, his insulin was left to go bad in the car. No fancy ddx - just a reminder that housing is healthcare.
Turns out in the 5 years between me leaving secondary school and my sister starting it, it’s gone from being v rare that people came out in my year to half of her class being out in year 7
Know there’s still progress to be made in LGBT+ acceptance but still makes me so happy ☺️

- Hoping to talk to anyone who did a DTMH in either UK / abroad and particularly if the ones abroad are valid for applications for ID / micro later down the line - thank you in advance 🙏🏾
What is it with guys coming up to you randomly in the street and saying “smile”? Like no thank you just let me and my resting b face walk in peace can you?
Last year, I was honoured to find
@DocAmali
and my article in the BMJ's anti-racism resources.
But reflecting how, a year on from George Floyd's death, the journey to end racism in healthcare is far from over.

Goes without saying that I couldn’t have done this without my incredible co-authors, including my co-first author Matt who was always supportive and optimistic in getting us through all the ups and downs and the amazing
@bethan_swift
for her statistics wizardry in particular!

to all those new doctors who now have no control of their own lives because of a random computer-generated number and have to move hundreds of miles away, I'm so sorry. This should not be the system

When I was a CMT1 I was in a godawful post where I ended up driving to a lake to drown myself after work one late night after finishing.
The Trust's Occupational Health sole suggestion was that I talk to my non existent supervisor "if I was struggling".

. I’m currently doing a DTMH programme but I’m wondering what is the reasoning to sit the ££ DTMH exam from the RCP next year? Is it required for specific organisations (eg MSF), required for specialty applications later on or no added benefit? Thanks!
Elective life just seems to be a constant competition of which specialty is the nicest 😂
Gone from “I can’t believe these docs keep buying me coffee” in one team to “I’m having the LOVELIEST time” with another to “I actually can’t fall in love with these doctors any more” ❤️

(UK) hoping you can advise on IMT and beyond - choice is either a long commute (1hr+) for an ID job or a local hospital without an ID job. How much of an advantage is doing an ID job during IMT for reg applications later on (ID/GIM)? Thanks!
