Them completely skipping over her growth from a teen terrified of the idea of pregnancy and motherhood to a woman who’s incredibly comfortable in her role as a mother
is something that annoys me maybe three times a day.
“alicent humiliated her” was she just supposed to not tell her ?? yeah she should have been more discreet about it but in a room full of men i’d expect another woman to tell me i’m lactating..
I do feel like some people misunderstand the point she’s making in this scene. It isn’t that she actually wants to be a knight she just wants to be valued for her own achievements rather than the fact that as a woman she can bear children.
Some of you lot just hate fun. Caraxes is so off putting and that’s the charm. I’m so pro the dragons having interesting features that separate them from each other.
fuck it, im gonna speak my truth here, there’s no angle where b & c is “reasonable”, those children had nothing to with what happened to lucerys and weren’t even aemond’s, if d*emon rlly wanted justice his target should’ve been aemond the whole time, THAT is reasonable
It’s probably my own personal traumas that colour my interpretation of this scene but the fact that Rhaenyra is so willing to be affectionate to someone who has tried to harm her and her kids bothers me deeply.
i am ngl i think all the time about how desperately alicent grabbed at rhaenyra's arm and how she stroked the arm with one hand and pulled her closer with the other and rhaenyra even started to stroke alicent's arm with HER thumb
@skinnylilbih
I’d say the lack of someone’s mum stood in her dressing gown with a brew watching from her doorstep means the video lacks a certain authenticity.
It’s nasty but it’s also pretty savvy. Viserys has pretty much just agreed to Rhaenyra’s offer and as her husband king Alicent cannot openly disagree with him so instead she shuts Rhaenyra down so she can disagree with Viserys in private
I personally interpreted Emma’s words as discussing the effects that gender politics of Westeros have had on Rhaenyra’s sense of self as a woman under the patriarchy not that Rhaenyra sees herself as being masculine.
Thread of interviews of Emma D'Arcy on how they approached Rhaenyra Targaryen through the gender lens.
"I think to say she's gender-questioning would be too extreme because the language doesn't exist, but I think she is someone who's +
It makes me a little sad for Emily that she’s clearly really proud or excited to have been in the show as she’s the one that posts the most frequently about it and the fandom as a whole has been kind of awful to her. And anytime she shows enthusiasm for the show she’s ridiculed.
“The whole point of the story is people have been forced to pick sides and that’s why a civil war happens. We are imploring the audience not to do that, and to really empathize with every character and see inside their inner workings.”
—Olivia Cooke via Vulture
They way she complained and screamed more to her husband who avenged her son’s death than she did to the woman who made her life miserable for over 10 years and helped to USURP HER…
I’ve never noticed he puts his feet up on the table with all the food. Who raised these Targaryen men because Aegon puts his feet up on the seat in the carriage with Alicent.
And before you say “kitty, touch grass, Rhaenyra’s not real her relationship with motherhood can’t hurt you. Get a hobby” I want you to know being annoyed by this is my hobby.
This particular brand of Alicent stans are so annoying because they understand why Alicent couldn’t tell Rhaenyra about seeing her dad and they don’t regard that as a complete betrayal. But they can’t apply that logic to why Rhaenyra conceals the truth from Alicent.
@cerseicurls
For me the historically inaccurate clothes just fed into the drama. It was so fun and dramatic. Like gossip girl slapped 16th century french court in the face with a Pinterest board.
I think people forget Baela’s the one who writes to Daemon to tell him that they’re planning on questioning Lucerys’ claim. Like she’s unwaveringly loyal to them so why would that change when they’re at war.
“the greens would’ve given you driftmark” no they were gonna give it to vaemond. idk why y’all think the side that’s usurping a woman of her birthright would give jack shit to baela or rhaena. 😭
@dornishgoblin
My understanding of Corlys is that for him it’s all about the legacy he leaves behind rather than immediate power so I think he’d probably be fine with one of Viserys/laena kids marrying Rhaenyra’s heir. But I dunno maybe he would have.
@siyyaninaas
I think she was fine. I don’t think she was terrible but I don’t see her as particularly talented. Or a standout of the show. Although nobody really stood out to me.
Posts like this never feel like they’re looking to explore a dynamic, it always comes off to me like they’re looking for any reason they can find to hate on Rhaenyra.
Do you think the writers of HotD intended for the audience to be so overwhelmingly one sided?
Like I get GOT was overall Stark, but they at-least made you think hard to pick a side, but HotD isn’t on that same energy.
It’s very annoying seeing people who romanticise Alicent stabbing Rhaenyra condemn people for doing the same with Daemon choking her. I find this kind of inconsistency insufferable and it makes you look kind of silly.
It bothers me that we never see Rhaenyras first pregnancy or first experience of motherhood. I think it takes a great deal from the audiences understanding of not just her characterisation but Jace’s as well. The audience isn’t given much of an idea about how she feels about Jace
I’ve just found out that people really will fight tooth and nail to argue that Rhaenyra and Harwin are the same age despite that obviously not being correct.
They aren’t they just live in the same world with the same technology and skills. So their clothing and the construction of their clothing feel similar. But if you listen to the costume designer there is an intentional difference in their embroidery.
team blacks saying they wished alicent was more book accurate are so unserious bc this is the meanest alicent they could handle before they lost their minds (they couldn’t handle her either)
Do people think Rhaenyra miscarrying the moment she hears that she’s been usurped was a coincidence? I’m not saying that Visenya would’ve lived otherwise but Rhaenyra miscarries in that moment because of the emotional distress of being usurped not because the pregnancy wasn’t
I really appreciate that GRRM doesn’t make Rhaenyra into this perfect victim or martyr. She has plenty of flaws and she’s not necessarily politically savvy. Because why should she have to be. Men are allowed to be imperfect and its endearing and manageable

Rhaenyra is very clearly and smartly trying to bait Alicent into admitting that it’s her that’s been spreading the rumours rather than letting her own sons take the fall for it.

Rhaenyra is given the ripped book page about Queen Nymeria while negotiating on the bridge.

Like when she posted that rhaenicent edit people were calling her jobless and like if that was Harry posting a jacela edit the reaction would’ve been different. It’s okay not to like the changes made on the show but it’s unfair to act as though the actors should apologise for

It’s actually slapping you in the face that it’s femicide. That the fact she is a woman is why she’s being murdered. But apparently the story is just about war being bad

It always gives me a giggle when I see people making the “who’s the real father” jokes about Rhaenyra and Alicent’s children because like the father is Rhaenyra’s dad 😭 that’s why they look alike. They’re sisters.
