Work with a staff engineer who is just 26, only an year older than me. No title inflation, I falsely assumed he has 10 YoE - that's how good he is. Motivation to step up my game 😤
This princeton CS grad turned philosophy student said to me in a club in Munich - "Oh you're just 20? Wait till you're 23 like me and full of regrets."
Still haunts me years later.
Most guys I know have given up on having sex and are just jacking it off. Sounds like biological suicide. Are they complacent because they can go the arranged marriage route (ie flesh trade)? Or are men just afraid to approach anymore? Or am I friends with virgin incelgang?
Read "Programming Language Semantics: It's easy as 1,2,3" by
@haskellhutt
.
Super easy to read introduction to the topic. A basic understanding of Haskell is useful to understand the code but not required.
I spent last night playing board games hopping between cafes from 9PM to 9AM in chandigarh. Can't imagine doing this in Bangalore where there is no real night life. Add to that the water shortage...this city is ngmi
People centuries ago: I am a chemist who will do pioneering research in Biology, Mathematics and Physics.
People today: I'm a CS student, what do I choose between CP/OSS/AI/Frontend/Backend/Fullstack/Android.
So sick of these startup founders who can't take out two minutes to tell me why they don't want to hire me. Running a startup is not an excuse to let go of basic professional etiquette.
To get access to Logseq Sync, all you need to do is become a contributor.
We have two tiers, both of which give access to Sync:
- Backer ($5/month)
- Sponsor ($15/month)
(The Sponsor tier also gives access to the alpha test of the whiteboarding feature)
The only good thing that comes out of CRED are the adverts. They should fire everyone else, acquire the ad agency if they're not full time and scale it.
Absolutely impossible to digest the equity pay difference at American companies between US and India/Europe. If your company is paying you in absolute worth instead of a percentage, it's already too late and you're just creating value for investors and American employees.
Regular reminder that your lives have no meaning in this indifferent universe and that any attempt at doing so is philosophical suicide.
This post is brought to you by Camus gang.
I see many people who travel to challenge themselves and build character. Instead, try traveling on sarjapur road everyday, best character development arc of your life.
People in tech should not trust the "you save the same in BLR as in SF" narrative. Even if you're getting 1cr+ TC in BLR, you will save significantly more in SF (300k+ TC).
So a friend in SF reneged on a job offer from a well funded startup ($xx M) and the CEO is asking them to pay the H1B transfer fees in order to not burn bridges. I think this is absolutely crazy and the CEO can shove the burning bridge up his arse. WDYT the friend should do?
@varunramg
Yeah no, I'm not going there so that mofos in India can say I'm winning. I just want to be able to buy my board games and electronics without a corrupt taxman interfering.
Debates should not be winning or changing the other person's opinions. It's about establishing a common ground and then agreeing to disagree on the rest. You're not going to change people in a day, empathise with their way of thinking and help them empathise with yours.
I don't like these modern sitcoms. When am I supposed to laugh at your jokes? Where's the laugh track to tell me it's funny? And how can I pretend to understand the joke when I'm watching with friends? Bring back the good old days when comedies were as obvious as documentation
Nothing worse than assholes who don't treat your board games nicely even after multiple requests. Complete disregard for people's property. These are the same people who will go to someone's house and make a mess without a care in the world.
ml/life journey day 18-19

One of my favorite twitter anons (and probably your favorite anon as well) recently said to me in person - "You have a very commanding presence". Made my day 😭
A lot of people with the "I don't know why interviews test DSA knowledge, I'm never going to use it at work" complaint will be the first to be automated. Not because they don't know DSA but because they're not really problem solving and hence more susceptible to AI takeover.
Founder: we only hire 10x candidates

A friend describes relationships/friendships as scaling to handle different situations and it's a rather brilliant way to describe it. The more situations you can scale to, the longer it lasts.
