I didn’t understand how thrust vectoring worked on AAMs until I got a chance to see an AAM-5 up close last week. Blades inserted into the motor exhaust are moved to direct the thrust. Very cool. First image is my bad iPhone crop, second is from Wiki.

@SR_Planespotter VX-9 has some nice ones. Those all sound fun to collect, Cobra Ball especially. Palmdale has some nicer versions of some of the 51 stuff. I like all of it, fun to have a patch for every squadron I’ve photographed. Trading is the highlight for me.

Took at look around RA001, The first 747 ever built and the first of three KC-747s ever produced. The aircraft was modified with a flying boom to compete in the ACTA program back in the 70s. Could you imagine flight lines full of these in gray USAF paint?

One of the highlights of the Sidewinder is its proximity to Edwards AFB. The USAF TPS drops in from time to time and every once in a while they give us a nice low pass. Probably the best school field trip I can think of.
