Barry Larkin made 29 errors at shortstop when he was 24 and turned out ok. Do not listen to Marty for one second on this stuff. He watched baseball every day and did not understand how valuable Joey Votto was. He’s disqualified from being able to weigh in on this stuff.

Should the Cincinnati Reds stick with Elly De La Cruz at shortstop? Marty Brennaman continues to believe that the #Reds should move Elly to the outfield.

If you were ok to spend $225M on Votto’s age 28-40 seasons, Elly’s next 10+ years are easily worth the $350M+ it would cost. Build in some incentives and club options like Julio’s deal. The only reason you penny pinch elsewhere is for this opportunity to splurge on THIS guy.

The talent is not there with this team. But poor management gets highlighted even more when your team lives on the margins. Outmaneuvered on the lineup card. Bad base running. Bad bullpen management. Cruz struggling and throwing to backup catcher. Season is on the line. Awful.

I continue to be impressed with Krall and the front office. Reds success is going to have to come from hitting on guys that they control for six years. I don’t think the 2024 Reds are good enough to sacrifice multiple prospects for short term rentals.

This is gonna sound overly dramatic, but my opinion on Krall may hinge on how long this Martini thing goes on. I’ve got so much faith in him and what he’s done, but cannot fathom how this can go on any longer.

@gohawks99 This makes no sense. Elly converts balls hit towards him into outs at a ridiculously good rate. That’s all that matters. Range is hard to improve upon. Making routine plays is way easier. Elly is a shortstop.

Mega yikes. This'll have a trickle down effect. Extremely optimistic outlook: This probably saves the Reds from having to DFA Barrero.

I’m hard on the reds, but this timeline does not bother me. He got a ton out of the 2023 team and it made sense to extend him. Something changed in 2024 and we’re not privy to it all, but it was clear that a change was needed. Better to do it than be tied to the contract.

Reds management was so in love with David Bell's job performance last summer that they gave him a three year contract extension. 14 months later the manager is so bad at his job that they'll pay him for two years to not work. That reflects poorly. But not on David Bell.

Reds can go hard on 1-2 year deals this offseason and need to be both more aggressive and more tactical than they were coming into this year. $16M in a starter needs less risk than Montas. $8M on a reliever needs a better park fit than Pagan...

The Reds have a core of players with several years of team control not making a lot of money. This offseason feels like the time to strike on a bigger (relatively speaking) FA or trade. How the contracts/$$ lines up just makes sense. We’ll see what’s available soon enough

Reds fans, I cannot recommend this enough. Take all of the energy you have for the Reds and channel it towards laughing at the Cardinals fans’ collapse. Somehow this has been the most enjoyable part of the season for me.

First draft of what I would consider to be a very serious contract offer to Elly de la Cruz. I modeled it after the Julio Rodriguez contract: . I am hereby opening up the floor for comments.

Reds have the 3rd easiest schedule going forward. Positive run differential. The Cardinals have the 11th hardest remaining schedule. Negative run differential. Not sure it’ll be good enough for the postseason, but I think the Reds finish above the Cards.

Lodolo will pitch when he’s ready. If he’s not, a rookie that posted a 1.8 fWAR in a partial season last year will slot in. And if it’s not him, the free agent that posted a 1.4 fWAR last year (mostly out of the pen) will. #ThankfulForDepth

Sal Stewart on base 3 more times tonight. .386 OBP over 316 PA this season. His floor is so high as a prospect. I hope he gets the bump to AA soon. Doesn’t have a single month under a .789 OPS. So consistent for a 20 year old dude. #RedsMiLB

Teams should use openers against the Reds more often. Kinda sick how we got tricked into setting a lefty lineup and they’re just sending out nothing but righties. Great way to expose platoon heavy teams.
