A wee story about John Thaw. I like talking to taxi drivers. One cabbie told me he'd had a lot of famous people in his car, but his favourite, by far, was John Thaw. He had to pick up John at the Europa Hotel and drive him to the North coast to meet a director about a film.

The driver went into his mother's, said be had someone in his cab who wanted to meet her. At which point John Thaw danders in and says: "Madam, I understand that you adore me." They spent half and hour having tea and biscuits, taking photos and chatting.

He told the cab driver the director would wait. So they drove out to the cab driver's mother's house, and the driver said he would need to go and warn her about this. She was in her 80's and he didn't know if she could cope with the shock.

I didn't start going to school properly until I was 15. I didn't see the point. I would mitch weeks and weeks, reading in the park or playing pool. I've now published 7 novels and I still don't know when to use "that" and when to use "which" in a sentence. And I never will.

I always have several books on the go, but this one has taken over. It's @adrianmckinty latest where he takes revenge on knee surgeons. 3 things occur to me so far. I am in awe of his talent. He makes me want to be a better writer. He's done it again - It's a masterpiece.

This might be the first Christmas ever where I have successfully put the bins out on the right days. The fact that this year's Christmas bin collection just so happens to fall on our regular bin days in no way lessens this achievement.

Finished this at 3am. I couldn't put it down. A visceral nightmare of a book with one of the most evil villains I've come across in a long time. Powerful writing. Not for the faint of heart. Look out for this one next year.
