Baby M was baptised on Easter Day in the afternoon by Father Jarel - we were very glad to introduce her to the congregation last Sunday Morning so those unable to be there could meet their new sister in Christ. Lots of smiles and joy! ❤️🙏🏾
‘All Glory, Laud and Honour to Thee, Redeemer King!’
A glorious start to Holy Week. Do see our social media for services throughout Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum!
Homily focus: “true victory is the triumph of surrender - knowing our own deep need of God and acting on that”
Todays homily in brief:
“It is a foolish thing to proclaim what we do - the world has its own Gospel which says that evil has triumphed, yet to declare ‘Christ is risen’ is to stake our entire lives, futures, hopes on what we do not see, yet believe - a wounded and living love!”
It was announced here and in Cardiff this morning that Jarel
@ScholarPriest
will move to be Vicar of St Germans in the Roath and Cathays Ministry Area
@LlandaffDio
from 23 March. As we give thanks for his ministry here, we pray for him and for St Germans. (We’ll miss Seb too!)
Do You Know About One of Cardiff's Hidden Gems?!
The 1st October 2024 will mark the 140th Anniversary of the Consecration of St German's Church by Bishop
Designed by the famous architect G.F. Bodley, it is a Grade I listed building.
“Saints relics remind us of that tangible, embodied, flawed-yet-faithful example of how to be, like Jesus, truly human. Like stained glass windows Saints simply allow the divine light to shine through them, knowing it will fall upon the world in various colours…”

We give thanks today for the faithful witness and ministry of the Sisters of the Society of St Margaret who lived and worked in the parish of St Germans for 70 years on Ruby Street.
This Chasuble which will be worn for the celebration of the Mass on the Feast of the Assumption this year was made by the Sisters of Bethany and belonged to the late Canon Douglas Alfred Rhymes 1914 - 1996. A brave and courageous priest who laboured for justice and inclusion.
It’s a joy and privilege to pray each day for the people of this parish - for the schools, infirmary, magistrates court and prison all in the Parish of St German. More services mid-week will be starting soon including Midday Prayer on Wednesdays. More details soon! ❤️

St German’s will be open from 12.15 - 16.15 this Saturday as part of Open Doors Weekend! Do pop in a look around - we are putting our best items on display!

The relics of our Patron, St Germanus of Auxerre (c. 378 - c. 442 AD) will be visible following the Sung Solemn Mass on Sunday 4th August, 11.00 AM.
The relics will be present in the Lady Chapel for individual veneration by the faithful.
We’d love to have music students involved in the use of our church - rehearsals, recording and recitals would be possible by arrangement and without cost. If singers were willing to sing occasionally for special masses. Please get in touch!

The Vicar presented Mr Brian Williams with a long service RSCM certificate and engraved medal marking 45 Years of Service as Organist of St Germans! And a bouquet for Mrs Barbara Williams who has supported and encouraged Brian in his ministry of music making.
It was a delight to have Mother Natasha Beckles as our guest preacher tonight for the Feast of the Assumption as she challenged us to think of how Mary’s experience speaks to the experience of so many in our world and how finding a balance between triumph and pain is crucial. 😇
We are sending our love, prayers and solidarity to all, especially our friends of other faiths in our community here in

We are delighted to share our Visiting Preachers who will be at St German's for these Solemnities in 2025!
Do share, and take a note of the dates and times - we'd love to see you.

Lord of all, we bow before Thee.
Saints on earth Thy scepter claim;

Father Jarel absolutely loved his first visit to

Those of us who live here are deeply thankful for the diversity of our communities, and live in peace and harmony with our neighbours of all faiths and none!
This is Britain. This is Wales. Love over hate every time! ❤️🏴🇬🇧
Islamic chants being blasted at full volume from a mosque in Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
This is unacceptable. This is Britain, not Saudi Arabia. We are a Christian nation.
‘The Christ who prepared that Holy Thursday table, is the very One who now prepares this altar. The priest stands carrying out the action, but the power and the grace is all of God.’

We were so grateful to have
@DrChrisMaxim
here again at the organ for a wonderful recital today! It was stunning. This important instrument is going to need some serious work done on it soon, so please do keep your eyes peeled for news of that!!
Thank you, Chris!! 🥰

Lots of joy at mass this morning as we blessed our school children and their bags as they return to school! 🥰
May God give them joy, and keep them safe in his love!

“Though ascended we proclaim that Jesus is still present in this world, this community - with his urgent love - present in body, soul and divinity on this altar, and in this tabernacle - longing to be seen, heard, touched and known by every soul in this parish”

A full and varied Sunday!
Please note: there are no midweek offices or masses at St German’s this week as clergy are away in York at Diocesan Clergy Conference. There is a Mass for Ascension Day (Thurs 9th) at St Margaret’s Roath, 7.30pm.
All the Ember Cards we have received so far are by the statue of Our Lady - each ordinand and deacon regularly prayed for by the faithful of St German’s. 🙏🏾
We are very much looking forward to Fr Robert Rees coming to St German’s as our Visiting Preacher for the Feast of All Souls.
Solemn Mass of the Dead, Saturday 2nd November, 6.30pm.
If you would like us to pray for a deceased loved one, do please be in touch with their name.
For those who are local! Simply put your name down on the sheet at the back of Church - payment into the coin boxes, or via card machine. 🐓 🥚

A Festal Letter to the Parish from the Vicar on The Feast of Pentecost 2024:
“Pentecost, was born not of uniformity or forced ‘assimilation’– but of various and diverse tongues out of which God created a new family, baptized in His love”

Next Sunday!
The Venerable Rhod Green, our Archdeacon
@LlandaffDio
will be preaching the Solemn Sung Mass for the Feast of Pentecost at 11.00 am!
We look forward to having Fr Green with us and to hearing his message.
For the first time in over five years we will offer Evening Prayer and Benediction to God at 6pm on Sunday here, at St German's.
These words reflecting on the power of Benediction from Father John Macquarrie 1919 - 2007 are included in the back of our Order of Service:
We are greatly looking forward to welcoming Bishop Richard Fenwick (President of the Friends of St German’s) as celebrant and preacher for Solemn Pontifical Mass for our 140th Anniversary on Sunday 29th September, 11.00 am.
Today’s Homily in Brief: Jesus appearing to his disciples is not so much about him revealing himself to them, but revealing the disciples to themselves - it is them and us, who in this event are brought back from death to life, as participants not spectators in Christ’s new life.
