As a ped anesthesiologist, I avoided at all costs intubating (ventilator) a child w a “cold” as it would worsen their condition, akin to intubating an adult unnecessarily to protect the Dr/RN, yet hurt the pt. It happened!

@kerpen Bothersome ethically that in March/April, pts were intubated “early” before needing ventilator to protect healthcare workers. It was dumb, wrong and deadly. We’ve had non-invasive ventilator modalities for yrs to avoid intubation. #DeathByVentilator deserves more discussion.

60 y later, my first 🏀 court still stands. Blacktop was installed and dad had foresight to have pole sunk away from court w steel frame used to put backboard over baseline at proper distance. Fan backboard has not survived.

Emergency Sports Theory Overtime in @NFL should be a 15 minute game. No sudden death. Just a 15 min game. Yes, a team could and might need to score 10–14pts to win. If tied after 15 min, add another 15 min. I know, this is one of my rare theories that makes any sense.

@kerpen 2/2 created by safer, medically appropriate non-invasive modalities like CPAP or hi-flow O2 is part of ICU. Early intubation and thus ventilator use is certainly a large, unspoken factor in April death rate. We NEVER did this for H1N1 in 2009. End.

Vegas is making decision to re-open schools after child suicides are up 100% from prior year. The youngest was 9-yrs-old. Teenagers w depression asking pediatricians to not tell mom/dad, “they already have too much to worry about”. This was predicted, sadly. #EndLockdowns

There is no law that keeps a pt from having 2 pathogens; a virus and a bacterium are commonly seen together, hence antibiotics.

A child’s life is a combination of many experiences, chance happenings, etc. Some are “safer” than others. Someday, I want to congratulate whomever decided to NOT cancel @IWUBasketball v @YUathletics 🏀. IMO, Each game can/should be played with fans. Limiting experiences ≠ Safety

@drjohnm CDC tomorrow will need to 1) Pause teenage vaxing and/or 2) only 1-dose for teenagers and/or 3) No vax if prior Cov and/or 4) 2-3mo interval between 1st and 2nd vax doses 5) Halt vax until cardiac echo study done on 2,000 kids and answers question. #5 please, hold the mayo.

@MonicaGandhi9 Dr Gandhi, w myocarditis after vax 12 times more likely cause of hospitalization in 16-17y olds, why not 1) pause vax in this group 2) wait on 2nd dose and 3)donate vax to high-risk pop in India/S Am? We have luxury of time to collect data. FYI: Dr. G is respected ID doc UCSF.
