Allow me to interrupt the chaos with joyous news: our warrior princess, Nusayba Ali, rang the bell today! After 9 months, she is officially free from cancer & doesn't need chemo. Thank you all for your kindness & help in keeping her alive. Please send good vibes for her health.
Exactly one month ago I went under the knife to donate a portion of my liver to
@WajahatAli
beautiful angel of a daughter, Nusayba. Some thoughts and reflections one month later. 1/
Look at her run with that cape billowing behind her!
No words to describe this feeling, just grateful that we reached this point. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
All credit to Nunu and her support system.
Here's a video to give you hope & make you smile: our warrior princess Nusayba gave her liver donor
@ShawnZed
a hug today after ringing the bell. After 9 months of enduring stage 4 liver cancer, she is officially cancer free. I'm so proud of her. She is the bravest person I know.
Exactly one year ago today little Nusayba (Nunu) and I went into surgery with the hopes and prayers for a successful liver transplant.
I'm happy to report, by the grace of God, the surgery was a success and one year later, the warrior princess Nunu is cancer-free!
My hope is that my story encourages others to go out and consider being a donor. Donate blood, plasma, give a cheek swab (for bone marrow). At least give blood, if you can! You'll find out what blood type you are and that is valuable info to have! 11/
Life is a trip and works in mysterious ways but through these ways I have been introduced to a little angel who now has a part of my liver but really she's grasped a part of my heart more more anything. Def did not anticipate this. 2/
People have said really nice things about me, and I'm flattered, honestly. But really, it's doing the right thing, nothing more. Someone needed my help, I was in a position to help, I helped. Done. 5/
Many thanks to all for the love, support and kind words wishing for a quick and complete recovery for Nusayba and I.
Glad to report recovery is coming along well! (The key is lots of naps)
I was even able to spend some time outdoors with friends this past weekend!
The outpouring of love and support from family and friends, new and old, has left me speechless. People I haven't spoken to in years reached out wishing Nusayba & I a speedy recovery. There's been a steady stream of visitors and people checking in. Def did not anticipate this. 3/
Whether you believe in God or not, that's your call. My trust in God and my faith has been reinforced in ways I can't begin to explain and more importantly in ways I didn't know I needed. 6/
Wouldn't be here without my incredible wife,
@reeda_book
. It was her support and love from day one that has been my rock. She's been holding it down on every front! 10/
I was pretty apprehensive about getting on Twitter but the Twitter fam has been especially supportive through messages, replies etc. So much positivity from Twitter is not something I expected. 4/
Recovery has been a very necessary reminder to not take anything for granted. Sounds cliche, but when you're used to walking upright, nice and straight and instead you're walking hunched over doing your best Quasimodo impression, it humbles you real quick. 7/
Our bodies are our vessels and too often we take this for granted. Regular check ups, maintenance and exercise of one's body is imperative and should not be pushed to the way side. We owe it to ourselves. 9/
January 8th 2021. Today is the one year anniversary of our beloved warrior princess Nusayba ringing the bell & being cancer free. Afterwards, she ran to her liver donor, hero
@ShawnZed
, & gave him a high five & hug. I'm so glad we captured it on video. Every day since is a gift.
Earlier this year,
@Bakari_Sellers
' daughter Sadie and
@WajahatAli
's daughter Nusayba received liver transplants. They joined us this Thanksgiving for an update and give thanks.
Happy 5th birthday to Nusayba, our beloved warrior princess, a Stage 4 Cancer survivor & liver transplant recipient. 2 years ago we didn't know if she'd live, but here she is w her LOL Surprise birthday theme she requested. Thanks to
@ShawnZed
& hundreds who rallied to save her.
We have just removed Nusayba's NG tube from her nose on this final day of 2019. For the first time in 9 months we can finally see our warrior princess's full beautiful face. She is wearing her Elsa dress and playing with toys. Please send her good vibes for a healthy 2020.
Since this is the week of good news, Nusayba's liver biopsy results came back negative. A year later, officially cancer-free, everything is going well, & the new liver is holding strong Alhamdulillah. She also received her new hot pink hearing aids. Chemo damaged her hearing. 1/
In conclusion, consider being a donor (I gave a piece of my liver and a year later it's grown back), give blood
@RedCross
, and you could save a life. Nunu and I are proof of that.
For those who asked, Nusayba just finished her first mandatory chemo after her liver transplant. She's doing well, maintaining her weight, drinking her boba tea, wearing her princess dresses and still putting on her own makeup. Step by step. Please keep rooting for her.
Say hello to
@ShawnZed
and follow him. He's the anonymous donor who gave a piece of his liver to help save Nusayba's life. He's also a Lakers fan. Forgive him, but nobody is perfect.
Totally new experience for me speaking on a platform like this about donating a part of my liver and the current COVID19 climate with
@WajahatAli
.
Have a listen & give feedback. Enjoy!

In other news, our warrior princess Nusayba is 4 years old today and cancer free. I will shamelessly post cute pics later and I hope you will indulge me because there were times last year we didn't think we'd ever get here. Be grateful for what you have and hug your loved ones.
On
#WorldCancerDay
, Im sharing this video of our daughter after she rang the bell, which you do after you're cancer-free. She rushed to meet her liver donor,
@ShawnZed
who donated a piece of his liver for a girl he had never met. Please consider being a liver donor & save a life.
Genuinely feels like we're at a turning point in our country's history. But that means all hands on deck and everyone needs to do their part somehow, someway, somewhere.
Donate, support, vote.
#BlackLivesMatter
Please consider being a donor, one of the bright spots stemming from
@WajahatAli
call for donors was that
@MedStarGUH
did receive more submissions than ever and some of those individuals did end up being matches for other kids suffering from cancer.
Over 500 people, mostly strangers, signed up to be living donors for Nusayba. The Georgetown Transplant team was amazed & inspired. It was the first time supply was more than the demand. If they could scale up it means more kids like Nusayba can live:
Needless to say, the past year has been a whirlwind given the current climate, but one thing I would absolutely not change would be my decision to donate.
And it has reinforced the decision to go through with the donation. People have been very kind with their praise, but i assure you i'm just a normal ass dude doing normal daily tasks.The potential to save a child's life should be the reason to consider being a donor.
I'm not a parent so I can't speak on feelings of having kids (will leave that for
@WajahatAli
) but I will say Nunu is now an integral part of my life, I think about her everyday, adore her little stories and seeing photos/vids of her playing and growing
It will disrupt your life for a brief period but time is flying and before you know it you'll be back on your feet. Also, you can save a child's life and then watch them grow. Seems like a pretty solid tradeoff IMO.

What an incredible act you're doing. If you have any questions or concerns through any stage of the process, don't hesitate to reach out! I'd be glad to answer any/all questions I can.
Thank you to all who have asked. Nusayba is doing great. Her hair is growing back. Her appetite is healthy. She is running around the house and bossing all of us while wearing her princess dresses. She is cancer free and alive thanks to insurance, medicine, kindness &
@ShawnZed
.
Nusayba’s surgeon, Doctor Fishbein, told me, "If these many people are willing to step forward we could have an organ supply that exceeds demand. This could be the first time in history that available organs exceed the demand. We need to scale the program up to save lives." 4/
Some good news: Georgetown Liver Transplant team has informed us that some people who signed up to be liver donors for Nusayba (over 500 applied) are matching with other kids who need life saving transplants. Amazing. Thank you again to everyone who helped.
"This was my last fight. No way I can come here without my father. ... I promise it will be my last fight. If I give my word, I have to follow this."

If you feel compelled to leave your house, at minimum leave and donate blood (if you can). The need for blood will only increase in the coming weeks and the current shortage will only get worse.
Go donate!
We celebrate all the organ donors who have given the gift of life to family, friends, and strangers.

after learning about her on

from her dad
@WajahatAli
. She recently thanked him with a big hug.

Spreading the word about a young man in need of a liver donor.
One thing I learned about my donation experience is that signing up takes a minute but the potential to be a match and save a life can last a lifetime.
Take a second and click the link plz!
Idk how to process this outside of frustration and rage. What is the trigger in someone's mind that deems these actions are necessary and/or remotely acceptable or appropriate?
The video of the lynching of
#AhmaudArbery
is one of the most horrific I've ever seen. Those bullets pierced more than one innocent black man. And those triggers were pulled by more than just the white supremacists in that video. Enough is enough.
This afternoon I met the young girl who now not only has my kidney, but somehow managed to steal my heart. I will remember her smile today for the rest of my life. She has changed my dna.
I’m amazed by the amount of people still going out. I get it. I’m 29 and I wanna live my life too.
But this is a pandemic. Sacrifice now. Stay home. Slow the spread of coronavirus. We‘d return to normalcy sooner. If not: more deaths, full hospitals and a lockdown are inevitable.
To the people suggesting seniors should die so others can live: if you have the courage of your convictions offer up your family members first. If you are of that age group then volunteer as tribute first. If not, come back when you have found your soul.
Please do spread the word, contribute $5 or more if you can, and join us to help build this center so we can save kids who are suffering from cancer and need transplants, especially during this pandemic. Here's the link again: 6/
Nobody could’ve prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster of organ donation—it’s an exercise in managing expectations, of hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. I started this morning feeling all the things. Mostly pain. But also all of the feelings.
I once lived in an apartment with 6 guys and we were often complimented on how clean our apartment was.
Then the one who cleaned the most left and everything went to hell.
Convinced that people forgot how talented AD is and he's entering his prime.
Very reminiscent of the year Kawhi sat out in SA, he came back and called out in TOR. AD on a very similar arc.
