I spoke to
@MacFarlaneNews
for CBS ahead of last week’s two year anniversary of January 6th about the painful memories that linger for those of us trapped by the violence while doing our jobs that day.
Our whole community was affected. Watch below.
If there is going to be a charge, "they want a trial to happen before the next election": While former Pres. Trump has denied any wrongdoing in the Jan. 6 attack, a former federal prosecutor says if criminal charges are brought they could come soon,
@MacFarlaneNews
reports.
Was just briefly interrogated at Dulles Customs bc the agent didn’t approve of my solo travel.
“You went where? For vacation? Alone. Alone? Didn’t meet anyone? No friends? Why?
I don’t like that. If you were my wife I wouldn’t have let you.”
I’m tired. Someone else tell him.
Pet peeve: OOO replies stating "I will have limited access to emails" as if the person is a journey across the jungle fighting for survival and wifi.
It's perfectly acceptable to say "I'm on vacation and will reply when I return. Happy holidays!"
@PositivelyBrie
My reaction, spoken slowly and repeated twice:
“If I were your wife, you wouldn’t… “let” me?”
It got the message across without me winding up in CBP detention. Not a great interaction though.
@kenklippenstein
@JAdamRuss
Ken, please stop. This isn’t journalism. Before today I thought anything approaching humiliating staff by publicly blaming them for their boss’ choice would be beneath you.
Hill comms folks should remember this moment when he reaches out to you in the future.
To help solve I demonstrated a southern accent (passport accurately says I was born in Alabama) after they were confused about why I had a US passport. I assume they thought I was Estonian or German, where flight originated?
Bunch of Qs about how much cash I had ($40).
What Ken’s doing isn’t journalism. Other communications staff should keep this hateful incident in mind when you get requests from him in the future.
I sure will.
Why is CSPAN extra entertaining?
-Chaos obvs, plus
-Speaker sets the rules for the cameras; without a speaker the House Recording Studio decides, free from prohibitions on zooming in on individual members or showing the full chamber.
Result: Reality TV-style view of the House.
Hey
@ESPN
! Your bracket challenge asks for fan addresses at the end but doesn't include "Washington, DC" as an option in the drop-down.
If I win the prize, I live in DC -- not Alabama! And please fix the issue on behalf of nearly 700,000 DC residents.
Thanks and

Proud of my friend, adamant defender of both the Capitol and the ideal of justice, and now-*author*
@libradunn
, whose book “Standing My Ground” is out for preorders.
Congrats Harry!
Preorder yours today like I did:
Here’s the video of Southwest admitting that staffing issues, and not weather, are the reasons my flight (and possibly yours) was canceled tomorrow.
Cite it when you politely request a full refund and credit for the difference you’ll pay to rebook on another airline.
Here is the video of the intercom announcement.
Speaker says staffing issues have led to the cancelation of 90% of Sky Harbor Southwest flights. They say they cannot get anyone out for the next 4 days.
This attack is the 2nd in recent weeks. We run forward towards the danger while you run to safety. January 6 is a great example of this. Please stop creating threats to law enforcement officers just for doing their job.
Overwhelmed, honored, and humbled to be asked to attend tomorrow's
#January6th
hearing with
@SergeantAqGo
, who suffered grave injuries and was instrumental in our first
@SupportCapitol
group.
Democracy doesn't happen by default; Tomorrow I'll watch it transpire in the room.
One more reason to love USCP Officer
@libradunn
: He keeps and eye out for my boss
@EleanorNorton
and texts me pictures as safety/location updates.
Not all heroes wear capes; some wear badges.
A man in camo pants came into our Rayburn office today claiming he's an 8-time felon, off his medication, and ranting about classified information. He was holding several bags.
Please be aware, take care of each other, and don't be afraid to use your duress buttons.
Few are more deserving than the two depicted here, Harry Dunn
@libradunn
and Danny Hodges
@SemperWry
, and one not pictured:

Congratulations, friends. I’m thrilled you’re getting the recognition you earned today.
DC pays:
-More in per capita federal taxes than any state.
-More in overall taxes than 23 states.
And has more people than either Wyoming or Vermont, which get two senators and a House vote.
It’s taxation without representation.
Someone told me to ‘deal with it’ regarding DC not having voting rights, and no. I won’t. I’m a citizen as are a lot folks in DC who deserve representation.
Grateful for the
#SneakerCaucus
normalizing Capitol Hill footwear that doesn’t make our feet bleed by day’s end!
Next step: Change the House rules to let staff + press wear sneakers in the Speaker’s Lobby.
My brother, 18 months younger, lost his battle to addiction in 2011. It’s a painful subject I don’t often talk about.
Get the free nalaxone and keep it around. It costs you nothing and could prevent a sister from having to call her parents to tell them their son is dead.
🚨 HILL STAFF: Free naloxone available outside of Dirksen G11 until 2pm today. Comes with a tutorial on how to administer.
You never know when you might need it on hand to help save a life. Stop by!
The 118th Congress will not break me. The 118th Congress will not break me. The 118th Congress will not break me. The 118th Congress will not break me. The 118th Congress will not break me.
I met

this week. She’s 18, articulate, bubbly, astute and came prepared. She even knew the factual arguments for

Infuriating and embarrassing that she had this experience, arguably assault, at my workplace.
"She was incredibly rude to us."
@MariannaPecora
speaks to
@yasminv
about what led up to the now-viral video of her appearing to be kicked by Marjorie Taylor Greene.
This one-woman comms shop does 100% of our press scheduling, so I'm proud when a 12-interview afternoon comes along and we complete them without major hiccups.
Proud and tired.
DC residents bear the burden of hosting the federal gov't in ways ranging from negligible — traffic headaches — to dire, like safety concerns due to an angry, deluded mob. Nearly 700K DC residents bear this burden without the benefit of voting representation in Congress.
It turns out there's already a bill to ban DC from requiring vax documentation to enter any venue, introduced by
@RepPatFallon
of Texas.
Peculiar how Rs from across the country are so *extra* about preventing DC from enacting its own local, common-sense safety requirements.
I'll guess that a bill will be introduced in Congress banning DC from requiring businesses to check vaccination status the week of Jan. 10, when the House comes back.
I'd bet Santa's sleigh on
@EleanorNorton
defeating it.
I spoke to
@MacFarlaneNews
for CBS about last night’s
#January6th
hearing, how that day affected the Capitol Hill community, and the reality that democracy only exists because of people who do the difficult work of upholding it.
Dear Hill staff: Are you currently eligible for or using SNAP benefits? Is this something that is discussed in your office? Shoot me or

Hands-down the best political moment I’ve been lucky enough to see in person.
While
@EleanorNorton
finally made the Dear White Staffers IG account, it was a case of mistaken identity. She's in DC; I've spoken to her three times on her house landline today.
Be careful, people. Facts matter.
My best Pelosi story: She spoke at the first press conference I ever planned, as a new Hill staffer. Petrified something huge would go wrong, I watched her + entourage arrive.
She made eye contact with me and said, with terrifying authority, "Sharon. Where's Eleanor?"
“If you only start packing with two days left to go, you’re just running low on time,” a former aide said. “And if he’s the one just throwing things in boxes, who knows what could happen?”

Congress denies the nearly 700,000 DC residents, who have all the obligations of citizenship, voting representation in Congress and full local self-government.
USCP sent two officers who said this type of issue will be common now that the buildings are open.
Their advice: Use your duress button as soon as you feel worried about safety. Don't wait on an explicit threat.
Stay safe.
Tonight at 6:00 we'll hold the first in-person meeting of an informal support group for the Capitol Hill community to discuss our experiences on January 6th.
Open to staff/USCP/all who work here, whether or not you were physically present that day.
RSVP:
Here’s a member of Congress tweeting a video of racist taunting with a message of approval.
This is where we are. It’s sobering and reprehensible, and should be deeply embarrassing to his staff, donors and constituents.
Democracy does not exist by default. It’s not a form of government we’re entitled to, or that will necessarily exist forever.
I wrote an op-ed about my ordeal on January 6th and the support group
@libradunn
and I founded in the aftermath.

Perhaps we should give out free sandwiches this weekend to members of

If that description fits you and you're hungry, DM me.
DC has your back.
The DC vaccine mandate kicks in this weekend. My office will not comply. We will not show papers. We will not order takeout from restaurants that require papers for dine in. We will get our food from Virginia or we will bring it to work. Shame has befallen our nation’s capital.
Got my selfie with

Randy Clarke,
@EleanorNorton

We’re so appreciative! He came despite being injured in an accident last week to help us highlight the importance of Metro and public transit to the DC area.
"DC’s old criminal code will remain in effect indefinitely, leaving the city less safe." –
@BrianBeutler
on point.
Democrats gained nothing in this week's DC criminal code fiasco.
In 2007, Republican President George W. Bush opened his State of the Union address with by saying:
"Tonight I have the high privilege and distinct honor of my own as the first President to begin the
#SOTU
message with these words: Madam Speaker."
PELOSI HISTORY
Bush began his 1/23/2007 SOTU:
"In his day Congressman Thomas D'Alesandro Jr from Baltimore saw Presidents Roosevelt & Truman at this rostrum. But nothing could compare with the sight of his only daughter Nancy presiding tonight as Speaker"
Capitol Hill press: Your workplace was also invaded on January 6th, so of course you're also invited, though the meeting will be strictly off the record.
Hope to see you in HVC201 A&B at 6:00.
