Patrol Sgt for 32 yrs. A Policing account giving you a look at “a day in the life of a police officer” WARNING Any negative comments on my post will be blocked
Thank you
@ctvottawa
for this honour! There are so many great strong women in the
@OttawaPolice
who will continue to do great things once I’m gone🙏Thank you
@grahamctv
&
@mattskubeCTV
for the shout out! I will still be posting long after retirement😜
NRT Officers responded to a stolen bike call.The owner was an eight-year-old boy who was gifted the bike earlier this year through the charity Big Give.
The officers decided to replace the bike. They chipped in to pay for the items. These are the calls the public don’t see💙
On July 6th every year I have celebrated the day I was hired to serve the City of Ottawa. Today marks my 28th year anniversary and I DO NOT REGRET my decision. I AM A PROUD MEMBER OF THE
@OttawaPolice
and regardless of how the community sees police, I will continue to serve💙
At around 4am this morning I noticed a man on a median at attention & saluting me. I stopped to talk to him. He is a vet & was homeless. I gave him what I had in my lunch bag. He was grateful and thanked me for my service. I THANKED him for our freedom♥️🇨🇦
Last nite myself & my plt worked our regular patrol duties. It was a crazy night. On top of trying to deal with sending our officers to the downtown core. We are tired. We are mentally drained. please before you pass judgement remember we’re just trying our best to keep you safe
Just a reminder the
@OttawaPolice
(& all other services) Frontline Officers working 24/7 on the ground
Are doing all they can to ensure everyone is safe & doing it thru an unprecedented event
Don't be angry with them. They are unsung heros.
Stay safe everyone.
TODAY marks my 30th year anniversary and I HAVE NO REGRETS. I have accomplished so many positive things & I HAD FUN! a rewarding career even tho there’s so much hate for our profession. Regardless, I will continue to serve & protect you during your toughest moments💙
@OttawaPolice
I have taken some time off. I took the time to do some thinking. Please think about the officers out there who are struggling. As I start my nightshifts tomorrow, we will go to calls that the public will never experience. Pls be kind to our officers
@trish_fergusonp
Today marks my 31st year as a police officer! I have been one longer than I haven’t. In 365 days, my journey will be over. Every day now, will be “..this is my last time…I’ll be doing this…” Even with all the negativity, I have enjoyed every single shift. No regrets.💙🙏
I will never forget the day you came into our office to do your first interview to become a police officer, I will never forget how thrilled you were the day you signed your job offer I will never forget that terrible day....I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
Police Discretion is important. Yesterday I stopped a veh that ran a red light in front of me. They were from out of town and were lost looking for a restaurant. I believed them. Let them go with a warning and recommend a restaurant! She found me on LinkedIn and sent me this:
23 yrs ago I met a 16 yr old who was struggling with addiction. I got him help. He told me once I saved his life. Words I didn’t expect. He found me on social media & He’s 39 and in a very good place! His kind words meant more than he’ll ever know.
Yrs ago I was an Acting Sgt I was very green. Had my first barricaded person call. I needed advice. I asked for help. I will never forget the Inspector I called who walked me through it. He follows me and says he loves my posts. So, I thought I’d post this to say thank you💙
So, 29 years ago today, I sat in a room with 3 male officers, the Nepean chief says, unfortunately, we can only hire 2 Constables-We all looked at each other thinking one of the 4 of us isn't getting hired Then the Chief says, yup, we're hiring 3 Constables and 1 Consta-belle 🤣
Well…it’s real now. I just got this in the mail today! Lapel pins for the Member of the Order of Merit of Police Officers (M.O.M) 💙Next stop: Rideau Hall! This is surreal😳thank you to everyone who nominated me for this medal! I am truly humbled
I will never forget the day you came into our office to do your first interview to become a police officer, I will never forget when you told me how old you were and the reasons for your "later in life decision"
I will never forget that terrible day I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER💙
“EPS responded to a family dispute in an apt building. They approached the unit & were shot by a male subject.” Do you know how many times in a shift we go to these types of calls? that’s why we all grieve together. It could’ve happened to any of us. RIP we got this from here💙
To the kind woman in a van like this one, who made a point to pull up to me (at 1:30 am as I was taking a break from another busy night) to thank myself & the officers working last night in the west end…I want you to know how much that was appreciated💙🙏
This is me at 3 yrs old visiting Ottawa from my home town of Toronto! Standing at attention like the Mountie behind me (and wearing the same colours😂). Who would have thought back then I would be living here and eventually become a police officer 🥰
@OttawaPolice
@rcmpgrcpolice
32 years ago today, I sat in a room with 3 male officers chief says, "sorry but, we can only hire 3 Constables". We looked at each other thinking 1 of the 4 of us isn't getting hired! Then the Chief says,we're hiring 3 Constables and 1 Consta-belle! The journey has been AWESOME💙
Yesterday One of our longest serving officers (36 yrs) on patrol, stopped & helped a woman who ran out of gas. She didn’t have any money for it, he paid for it so she could get home. 💙
As police officers we are used to people not being kind to us. But, servers at restaurants are not. Today, I witnessed this and was horrified and disgusted. PLEASE be patient. PLEASE be kind. They, TOO, are brave to come to work everyday.
24 yrs ago I met a 16 yr old who was struggling with addiction. I got him help. He told me once I saved his life. Words I didn’t expect. He found me on social media & He’s 39 & in a very good place! His kind words meant more than he’ll ever know.
This one hits close to home. Sgt. Maureen Breau was a veteran frontline Sgt. Just like me. The public wonders why we stand thousands strong at police funerals? Because it could have been any of us, doesn’t matter where you police in the world. You’re judged by the uniform💙🖤
About 28 yrs ago a recruiter told me I had what it takes to be a great police officer! It wasn’t in my plans. But, I took the leap. Today is my 27th yr “hire” anniversary. I don’t regret one minute of it! Do YOU have what it takes? We’re recruiting!

OPS welcomes Cst. Charlene “JenJen” Abella. She is a National Basketball Champion, volunteered in Africa, has a degree in Criminology and diploma in Police Foundations! HARD work and drive that she learned from a sport led her to achieve her dream SHE IS ALSO A FELLOW FILIPINO🇵🇭
A positive interaction with police is one step to building bridges
This is Brent & Zavier. As I was driving by, they were jumping, waving & SMILING at me! I stopped. gave them an OPS pin badge & hopefully we will be forever friends💙

As I head home to finally enjoy our 1 day off, I open my locker and re-read this from my daughter who drew this for me when she was 10 (she’s now 17). This puts a smile on my face and reminds me to keep going & do what I committed to do almost 30 yrs ago💙🙏
Pre Shift parade at Greenbank. Notice something? There’s 5 female officers to the ONE male officer 🥰 AMAZING how far we’ve come in policing!
#girlpower
💪
So nice to meet one my Twitter followers! Was on a call & he recognized me! He’s a youth who immigrated from Syria and living his best life in Canada! Had belly laughs chatting with him! Nice change from the craziness these days
@Bacardi_Santana
Police officers respond to several mental health calls in a shift. No. We are not experts in dealing with mental health. But, last night, a woman called us to come to her house; all she wanted was someone to talk to. She lives alone. And we did just that. We let her talk to us.
Walking into our station to see the flags at half mast for the fallen officers makes me emotional. Seems to be more often these days 💙
@edmontonpolice
@OttawaPolice
Amazing group of women I’ve worked with. They all worked hard, had fun and when they went home they still worked hard with 17 children between them. Some of us have had second careers too and managed to keep it real. WOMEN ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF POLICING! We are RECRUITING
hardest part of policing is going to a call where it hits close to home. Today we attended a call who’s young adult child passed away from drugs. They’re my Daughter’s age. Mom looked at me & said: you guys have a tough job. Yes we do. Going home to hug our families tighter💙
This job is unpredictable and is filled with many good & bad moments, and this is one of those good ones. On his way to the hospital all this kid wanted to do is hold this officer’s hand. Made him smile and he shared it with a member of our team to make them smile
@OttawaPolice
this is what we are good at: BEING THERE for the community in times of crisis. We leave our OWN families behind in the dark to help your family! No matter what is said about us, the Police, it doesn’t matter who you are, whenever you need us...WE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE!
During our rare downtime, one of my officers asked me if I wanted to join him to sit in front of the Islamic School to make the Muslim community feel safe. We spent our time there waving at kids and their parents!great part of my day!
@DRRmatters
@trish_fergusonp
Thinking of my frontline colleagues who have extended their shifts for the last couple of days to ensure everyone is safe. Leaving their families behind to help yours💙
New Recruit hire Cst Scott Zachrias was 9 yrs old when his older brother Insp Dave Zachrias became an officer! Now he has followed his brothers footsteps. Scott volunteers with the Capital Condors and Operation Come Home!

My post today is a tribute to my dad who I lost yesterday😞Not a man of many words, yet, his unspoken words were loud and clear. He taught me the value of family, he taught me the value of Friendship, but, most of all, he taught me how to love and be loved. Miss you already dad♥️
7 yrs ago: I remember this day vividly. My platoon was working afternoons and when I made the call to the troops to help out, NOT one of them hesitated to come in early! We worked very long hours that day, with our heads on a swivel: our city was forever changed!
In the 90s I was a School Officer. Today, I received an email from a someone who saw me at his school & community when he was a kid. I CRIED reading it. This made my year! This is a thankless job & as an officer you never know who you’ve inspired or impacted.
#BringBackSROs
As Sgts we are taught to take care of the people we lead. Today, we will take care of YOU Eric. We will take care of your family. They, too, are our family. This is not going to be an easy day. RIP brother. 💙🖤💙🖤
It’s no secret that the
@OttawaPolice
is hiring for 2022! It is with great pride & pleasure to announce that I have been asked to return to the
@opsrecruiting
team to help with hiring the BEST officers to serve our city! Look out for our social media promotion posts!
Got a msg from one of my beloved former students today! SHE WAS GIVEN A JOB OFFER WITH THE OPS! I am so so proud of her she worked really hard for this💙 well deserved👏🏽👏🏽

Everyone asked me if things changed on patrol; the one thing I noticed is there’s so much hate out there; for each other, for the police, or for just being me. We need to stop hating people! 💙😔❤️😔

Last nite I was tasked to drive home a woman who was a victim of partner violence. She was brave enough to take first step. I told her that she seemed at peace with her decision. She said she was & was relieved to reach out to the
@OttawaPolice
. If you need help reach out to us💙
Will my girl follow in my footsteps. 🤷🏻♀️ All I know is that she’s graduating with a 4.0 GPA in Police foundations. Not easy balancing basketball & school! Not easy raising kids working shift work! Today, I’m not a police officer: TODAY I AM A PROUD MAMA!
@Coach_Hutton
Yesterday I was honoured to be a recipient of the Order of Merit. I was humbled by the nomination that was written about my work as a police officer for the past 31 yrs. To meet the Governor General & be in a room of other amazing recipients was one of the highlights of my career
You know when you’ve raised your children right when she sees a homeless youth her age at a food counter trying to find change to pay for a coffee & your child walks up & pays for it. My girl’s compassion will make her a great officer one day💙
#ProudMama
One of our newer recruits was posted at our station and spoke to a woman who drove here from Montreal to hang this in front of the station. with all the chaos going on with the truckers, I’m so glad that there r people out there that still care about us🙏💙
@DavidBisimwa13
In frontline policing we work different shifts, this includes being away from our family dinners on holidays. We adjust. Today is no different. Working thanksgiving to keep the community safe is our pleasure. Let’s just hope everyone gets along tonight🙏 happy Thanksgiving
This new recruit needs no introduction: Cst. Connor Williams comes to us as a former Grey Cup Champion with the Redblacks! On and off the field Connor dedicated his time to many important causes such as Rowan’s concussion Law Welcome to the OPS FAMILY
@OPSChiefSloly
@MacLeodLisa
Ready for another one of our new December Recruits? Introducing; Cst. Alex Slobodian! Alex is an elite competitive Nordic Skiier who has volunteered her time at women shelters and with the indigenous community! Welcome to the OPS family 💙
@OttawaPolice
@opsrecruiting
Just about to start my night shift! Hmm maybe I can get one of the new recruits to brush off my cruiser like I did for many years until a new recruit came along🤣🤣🙏
Today we said goodbye to our beloved Greenbank Station caretaker Ossy. A quiet, gentle man who LOVED his Senators, Raptors and Blue Jays! Wonderful send off by our Traffic escort team! RIP Ossy💙

Yesterday was my first full day back as a recruiting Sgt & out in the community. This is Everton. He recognized me from when I worked in his community. He said I was tough on him when he was a youth, those lessons changed his life. He’s now a father of 2 & living his best life💙
Today was my last Shift in Recruiting! I am back to Patrol a spot where I started my career! SO EXCITED! Ironically, I stopped at the grocery store & ran into one of my FIELD TRAINING OFFICERS! 31 yrs ago he taught me the skills to be the officer I am today!🙏
Leaving the Recruiting section last year was tough decision BUT, going back to the frontline and seeing the fruits of our labour excel in their dream jobs is PRICELESS! The other nite I ran into these awesome recruits we hired! So awesome💙
First patrol shift l! Busy out of the gate! Feels good to be back on the frontline! Got to see one of our recent hires driving a cruiser and taking calls!

“Behind my badge is a💙 like yours I bleed I think I love and yes I can be killed & although I am but one I have thousands of brothers & sisters who are the same as me They will lay down their lives for me & I them. We stand watch together. The thin-blue-line We are the police”💙
Early this morning, a large gathering of OPP & other police officers, first responders & community members stood together in solidarity as Provincial Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala made his way from West Haldimand Hospital to the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario in Toronto.
Reposting this Pic because it reminds me of how far we’ve come. As I sat in parade yesterday I looked around me & every officer in the room was a female! Gone are the days when I was lone female just trying to fit in💙we earned our place at the table💙
Over the past year the Recruiting team has focused our efforts on hiring women! The OPS has always developed strong women officers!
**We are pleased to announce that the last and final OPS class of 2019 Is comprised of 50% women**
A positive interaction with police is one step to building bridges
This is Brent & Zavier. As I was driving by, they were jumping, waving & SMILING at me! I stopped. gave them an Ottawa Police pin badge & hopefully we will be forever friends and they’ll remember this day💙
I will never forget the day you came to do your interview. I will never forget the proud smile on your face when you told me about your family,
I will never forget how excited you were the day you signed your job offer
I will never forget that awful day. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
This holiday season, we remember the tenth anniversary of fallen officer, Constable Ireneusz ‘Eric’ Czapnik (May 26, 1958 – December 29, 2009). We wish to take this opportunity to share a statement from his widow, Anna Korutowska.
Many criticize our officers. But, pls stop to think about them & their mental well being. Tough night for our platoon tonight. Sudden deaths and having to deal with their grieving families affects us deeply. But our job is to stay strong for them & go back to work tomorrow.
Today I try to explain to my students (aspiring police officers) why, we, as police officers come together so strongly when one of us passes. Something people always wonder. For me, when this happens I think: “this could have been me. This could have been any of us”. 💙🖤 RIP💙🖤
Happy Anniversary to my hubby. A man who is always there when I come home from every tough shift. Says nothing until I’m ready to talk. Lets me cry when I have to. Sympathizes when we are criticized & No he’s not an officer. Which makes him even more special♥️💙love you forever💙
Last night was one of the busiest nights I’ve had since I’ve been back on Patrol! Here’s me & the girls smiling after a kayaker was safely rescued! BIG SMILES ALL AROUND
@trish_fergusonp
Today we Remember those who sacrificed for us to live in freedom. My Platoon & I are honoured to be working today to make sure all of today’s services are safe and our vets are safe.

: Did you know that all Police Officers in Ontario have to pass a yearly qualification in firearms and Defensive Tactics? Well, today is the day for me! (Probably my last one before I retire!) 👍👏🏽
Last night myself & my officers responded to call where a person stole a veh with a child in it. With some excellent team work we were able to locate the veh and found the child safe and sound! One win for the good guys!
@OttawaPolice
I will never forget the day you came to do your interview to become an officer, I will never forget how I reacted when you told me how old you were and the reasons for your "later in life decision"
I will never forget that terrible day....I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER

Thinking of platoons A,B,D (patrol and Comms) who are working this Christmas Weekend! Thank you for sacrificing your family time to Keep our City safe💙🙏
This is becoming way too familiar. They responded to a call that we go to on any given shift. We go to help. They did not deserve this. Enough is enough 😡💙🖤
At approximately 11:45 am,
@OPP_ER
and OPS accompanied Sgt. Mueller to the coroner's office located at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus.
@OttawaParamedic
and
@OttFire
also provided support and assistance along the route.
Thank you to the members of the public who showed
Well it’s 3am after the worst snow storm in years and it’s just me and these unsung heroes out here! They’re working hard to clear off snow so that when you all wake up in the morning the roads are safe! PROPS to the snow plowers!
#Ottawa
Last night I posted that a couple of young people gave me a free coffee as a “thank you”, today, a little girl stopped one of our patrol officers and GAVE HIM SOME BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS! It made his day!
#thelittlethings
🙏 a supportive article about police. 31yrs in policing I have never seen anything like this. A profession I chose where I knew I could be seriously hurt or killed. The neg rhetoric leads to killings of officers. Let’s work together & end this now
I have no words. Not again. 💙 RIP to their families I’m am so so sorry you have to go through this. We feel your pain. We feel your grief. We feel your anger.
