I’ve known

for 20 years. We started serving at the same time: me as gov chief of staff, she as SC House member. She’s risen from legislator to governor, to UN Ambassador, to prez candidate. Americans will learn what I know: she has the gravitas necessary for this run.

Impossible to overstate either the number of South Carolinians who support Ambassador/Governor
@NikkiHaley
or the intensity of that support. The rest of the country will find out what we in the Palmetto State already know: she is a no-holds-barred candidate who plays to win.

My medical-cannabis bill (S. 150) just got set for special order in the South Carolina Senate, meaning no other bill can be considered until it gets a vote; debate starts next week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. I am beyond ready; see pic of my floor-debate binder. I can’t wait.
A pro-life group delivered to my office a model of an anatomical spine with a note urging me to grow a spine and support a ban on abortion from the time a sperm fertilizes an egg. Extending the state’s jurisdiction to this intimate time and place is not something I will support.
Our next POTUS must be an outsider, someone who’s not afraid to buck the leaders in both parties, take on the hardest fights and figure out how to get things done in an environment that, too often, prizes political attacks over results. That’s

On the floor of the South Carolina Senate this afternoon debating the medical-cannabis bill. I am greatly encouraged by the level of participation by my colleagues — lots of great questions; they’re clearly engaged. I still hold the floor and will resume debate at 11 am tomorrow.
So-called “Yankee tax” would allow a county, subject to referendum ok, to charge new SC residents an extra $250 for driver’s license & an extra $250 for vehicle registration. Among other concerns, I think the unwelcoming message this sends new residents is problematic. Thoughts?
This week, the South Carolina Senate will finish debate and then vote on S. 150, a bill that would allow a physician to authorize a patient’s use of cannabis to treat certain debilitating medical conditions if, in the physician’s opinion, the patient would benefit from such use.

South Carolina senators rejected a ban on all abortions. The Republicans had a majority to pass it, but not to end a filibuster by Sen. Tom Davis, who said he would not vote to make the current six-week abortion ban stricter because women have rights, too.

This political-party breakdown of the 28-to-15 vote last week by the South Carolina Senate to pass S. 150, the medical-cannabis bill, tracks the cross-tabs of the numerous public opinion polls that have been taken on this issue; that vote showed representative government at work.
