I don’t know much about Tim Walz, but I hear he was one heck of a high school teacher and football coach. Great choice by Kamala Harris. Let’s spend the next 90 days talking about how we can feed hungry kids in South Carolina like he did in Minnesota!
Faux leadership. All McMaster really cares about is offering babystting service to parents. It’s literally impossible for all our districts to provide 5 days a week, in person instruction, and follow the guidelines laid out by AccelerateED. He’s either clueless or disingenuous.
Very sad to see great ally - the Kurds - being assaulted by Turkish-Erdogan military using American-designed equipment.
Expect Congress to act soon against Turkey’s invasion & aggressively push back. Hope Trump Administration will join this effort.
If you consider yourself a Democrat, intend to vote in the primary, and want to win next November; stop looking for the candidate that checks each of your ideological boxes, and start looking for the one that can appeal to the independent that voted for Trump in ‘16.
Many top Democratic strategists and pundits now believe in the "progressive mobilization theory." The key to winning in 2020 is to move left, mobilize the base, and ignore non-existent swing voters.
This is dangerously wrong for three reasons.

As Florence approaches, there are hundreds of linemen and electric utility staff preparing to brave the elements to get the lights back on as soon as possible. It’s a dangerous job and they could use our prayers and appreciation.
The systematic destruction of public education — decades in the making.
Private school vouchers started as a way to stop integration. If we pass this bill, it will deepen the divisions in SC.
I’m not against private schools, but public money should stay in public schools.
I met this guy 31 years ago when our hs football coach made us roommates at football camp. My life has been better for knowing him ever since. An ole country boy at heart who made the most out of absolutely everything he encountered in life. A friend to so many.
This board looked a lot different 6 short weeks ago. That’s what happens when 10000 strong show up united and demand change. Proud we passed this amendment to RE-institute class size standards in our k-8 public schools. So many people played a role, but none more than teachers
From the bottom of my heart: thank you. We’re building a campaign that will win in November and I can’t wait to get back out there and see everybody very soon.
Local jurisdictions and municipalities have a right to protect their people, especially if
@henrymcmaster
won’t. Our coastal communities had plans that would do just that, and the “opinion” from
@AGAlanWilson
has gutted them. We can’t rely on individuals
The State of the State is an opportunity for our Governor to inspire. Tonight’s address was anything but.
@henrymcmaster
used his teleprompter to spew the same tired partisan rhetoric that promotes division rather than unity. Gosh we deserve more. Props if you stayed awake.
When someone lacks the mental capacity to win on merit and ideas, they resort to pettiness and fear to succeed. Real leaders speak words that unite, not divide. They tighten the knot that holds us together rather than loosening it.
In Anderson,
@henrymcmaster

I’m a Christian and as such I denounce this. It has nothing to do with my politics, or my opinion of the President. It has everything to do with the Bible and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
....like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God...But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for.....
Today, with bipartisan support in the House,
@collins_neal
and I introduced a resolution that would move all SC teachers and support staff into 1a while also instructing all districts to open schools 5 days a week no later than 28 days after passage of the resolution.
It shouldn’t take an IG report to find out about this. $152 million sitting in an account that could have been used for scholarships for thousands of additional SC students. There has to be accountability.
The state Commission on Higher Education, which doles out lottery funds as scholarships to needy students, has accumulated $152 million in lottery funds that it never used for scholarships.
We are at a very delicate crossroad. Every single one of us needs to take a long hard look in the mirror, before it’s too late. If you aren’t trying to come up with ways to heal these wounds, then you’re only making them worse.
When your kid is packed in a classroom with 60 other kids, and an uncertified teacher, bc there’s no one left to teach them; you can thank these clowns. Not sure who I blame more; these lying frauds that continue to weaponize public policy or the R “leadership” that lets them.
🚨”Help Not Harm” bill banning transgender sex changes on minors passes!
✅Senate changes include mandatory notification of parents if a child expresses a desire to change sex while at school.
Congrats to FC Member
@ThomasBeach
who authored this amendment! Major win for kids!
This is NOT a temp pandemic program as the gov
would have you believe. It’s a full time bi-partisan plan to help address child food insecurity; run through the same SC agency that’s ALREADY doing the work. It’s SC tax $’s going to other states bc of politics…period.
Asked
@henrymcmaster
if there’s a possibility SC could still opt in to Summer EBT for 2024: “Not if it’s left up to me.” McMaster reiterates his opposition to “pandemic programs”: “This is how the government gets bigger and bigger. Bigger bureaucracy, bigger entitlements.”
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. We’ll keep fighting to expand Medicaid until all South Carolinians have the health care coverage they deserve.
If this move by Russell Ott had somehow worked, that would have been an all-time look one way and throw a behind-the-back pass another in a Legislature that has seen its share of quiet items with big effects slipped through over the years.
Repubs and Dems. Men and Women. Rich and Poor. Different colors, creeds, sexualities and nationalities. We put all of that aside today as we mourn. We will never forget, but if we truly want to honor them we should put those things aside everyday.

Farmers being used as political pawns by those that oppose hemp production is about as bad as it gets. What happened to due process? Willful disregard my a$$.
I believe there will come a day when SC realizes that our potential for greatness hinges upon educating and preparing ALL of our children, and public education is the only way to accomplish this. We as policy makers continue to fall short on this front often bc we allow gimmicks
Want to start today by thanking
@reprussellott
for standing strong & leading the fight for public schools & educators yesterday. He knows the power of & fights for an SC that empowers public education b/c, as he said, “What we do with education affects every aspect of this state”
Every day during Black History Month, we take a moment to recognize a great South Carolinian. Today I had the honor of speaking about Stanley Myers.
He was a husband, father, attorney, soldier, star quarterback, and so much more. I’m very lucky to have called him my friend.
I’m running for State Senate because we need a workhorse, not a showhorse. I look forward to talking about the issues that matter most in Lexington, Richland, and Calhoun.
An issue that keeps coming up is health care, which is why this week I introduced an amendment to expand Medicaid coverage in SC. It was the right thing to do 10 years ago when we first had the chance, and it’s the right thing now. Won’t stop fighting until we get it done!
This is nothing but more smoke and mirrors from the Trump admin and a Governor who owes him his job. Over 98% of adult Medicaid recipients are already working and those who aren’t, simply can’t. So this ploy will only cost SCDHHS more money. But hey, keep pounding those chests.
It's been a while, but remember South Carolina's request last year for a waiver to mandate work/volunteer requirements for certain Medicaid recipients?
It's been approved. (This story will be updated)

Please just stop with the smoke and mirrors. The only spin going on is coming from inside the statehouse. Misinformation!? They understand the bills better than 90% of the legislators.
“Them leaving the classrooms is a direct result of the misinformation that’s being spun by the people who don’t want education to change in SC,” Lucas said of the teacher rally. “I’m not going to condemn the teachers because they act on the misinformation”
It’s Election Day! We’ve had a great morning talking with voters. If you haven’t voted yet, you still have plenty of time. Polls are open until 7pm. If you don’t know where to vote, go to to find your polling location.
To be clear...I support private schools and I’ve seen first hand where kids have thrived in those unique environments. Parents have to do what they feel is in the best interest of their children but I’ll not support tax dollars flowing to private schools.
Teachers have been at work all day, yet drove to cola after work so they could have their voices heard. They live the problems daily and hold the key to the solutions if we’ll just listen to them.

@SCforEd
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to all of our amazing teachers here in South Carolina, especially my mom who taught high school English for her entire career.
How many “seniors” are being relied upon to provide childcare to grandkids bc you refuse to do what it takes to get our schools fully opened; responsibly? Stop using them for political cover. They deserve better.
Seniors are getting vaccinated in greater numbers each day. Breaking faith by slowing down, disrupting, cancelling, or delaying any senior’s vaccination shot is a bad idea with deadly consequences. I cannot - and will not - allow their lives to be jeopardized.
Regardless of if you’re elated or dejected by todays all-male State Supreme Court ruling, we should all be concerned about why a 3-2 vote against, 6 months ago, flipped to 4-1 today. Anymore, judicial elections seem to be merely a means to an end.
I really believe if the general assembly were brought back to vote on the mask ban we would do the right thing and change it so that local boards could make their own decisions.
South Carolina’s public health agency recommended Aug. 20 that all schools require masks indoors and urged the Legislature to return for a special session to allow that to happen.
I’m honored to be named the
@YoungDemsofSC
Joe Neal Elected Official of the Year!
As a not-so-young Democrat, it means so much to have the support of young people in our party.
Adequately expressing my appreciation for all the support during this campaign will be impossible, but please know I will work everyday to honor this privilege of serving Dist 93. Republican or Democrat; it doesn't matter. It's about SC and we're all in this together.
You had the majority for the first 2 years of his presidency. You had the votes to do whatever you wanted, and so did he. I remember your words during the primary and the election. Looks like you live by the saying “if you can’t beat them, join them.” So who are you, really?
A gentle giant. A man that’s served in these halls longer than I’ve been alive. A voice that Orangeburg county will truly miss. Thank you, Senator Matthews, for the indelible mark you have left on me and so many others.
Senator John Matthews, our Assistant Minority Leader, is one of the greatest legislators South Carolina has ever seen. Each member of our caucus is proud to have worked alongside him.
Thank you for all you have done for our state, Senator Matthews.
South Carolina’s leaders must focus on improving access to women’s health care. We can start by finally expanding Medicaid. It was great to join the SC Obstetrical & Gynecological Society today to talk about these important issues.
Never know what you’re gonna get knocking on doors — this time I got a picture drawn by Miss Annabelle, an up and coming artist in the Wales Garden neighborhood. This one’s getting hung in the office for sure!
Appreciate you
@PeteButtigieg
for at least acknowledging rural America. I look forward to the day when a candidate understands the importance of our demographic.
He’s dancing again with his wife and the thought of that makes me smile. I admired the way he lead with humility, but my respect was born from the way he loved his wife and family.
Thanks for the reminder, Dabo, that thin skinned is not a good look. A football coach making 11 million a year might want to consider showing a little humility when fans are upset at being 4-4. Clemson fans were here before you, and they’ll be here after you’re gone. Go Tigers.
Proud to serve beside chairman
@NathanBallentin
who is doing a great job pulling together the vast array of energy interests. Progress always requires hard work and he’s always willing to put it in.
What a week! I’m truly humbled by all the support since we launched our campaign for state senate.
I’m a strong supporter of public education, so I enjoyed meeting with high school students and students from USC. After talking with them, it’s easy to see SC’s future is bright!
If you aren’t registered to vote; you have until Sunday to get registered for the Nov. 8th elections. Most County election offices will be open this Saturday. Spread the word!!
SC is simply at the bottom of too many lists related to public health (especially rural). We have to do better, and it was great learning and sharing ideas with

What really irks me is that we have so many great people (many volunteers) that work hard to make sure our elections are easily accessible, secure, and fair. This fear mongering disparages them, and it also compromises our Republic.
This campaign has allowed me to meet a lot of amazing people. Just received a contribution from someone I met while knocking doors. I remember the authentic conversation we had. THANKS to each and every one of you. Y’all are turning this into something very special.
Big day for customers of electric cooperatives. Ensuring a transparent, and accessible process of Board governance will ensure the co-op model is secure for decades to come. Proud of the hard work by many.
Tonight I’m praying for the family of the life we lost in a senseless act of violence. I am relieved that President Trump was not seriously injured. I am disgusted by today's events and urge all Americans to join together in this pivotal moment.

would the strongest hurricane on record for that part of NW Gulf Coast. Words fail me at a time like this- simply put, it would change the course of the landfall area much like Katrina did. Gut-wrenching
I can’t tell you how much it means to have the support of Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter. She’s been my desk mate for the last 11 years and my friend long before that.
School cancelation will be problematic and burdensome to thousands. Yet, it simply must be done. We, as state leaders, must work to immediately minimize the impact to children and working parents. In times like this we have to pull together.
A school superintendent said something profound in his address cancelling school for the next 3 weeks. He said: In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be QUITE apparent if we under reacted or did too little.
Hear those words....
Rep. Jonathon Hill just stormed out of the House chamber and tossed up all the amendments he was not allowed to file and speak on. “If you want to engage in such childish behavior” the sgts will make sure you’re not here with us,” says
@schousespeaker
.
You’re “self made” so now veterans don’t deserve housing? You’d think a college grad would know some veterans wouldn’t be homeless if they have homes… More than happy to discuss WHO we work for at another time.
One of us is a self-made, first generation college graduate - the other is a guy whose daddy gave him a State House seat and has paid him $600k to do his legislative bidding. Who is the real elitist blowhard?
I can’t even imagine. No community is immune to these senseless acts of violence. There’s always another way. Please pray for this family and our community.
The suspect in the shooting death of a mother and two of her daughters has been identified as 37-year-old Gabriel Jordan. Authorities believe Jordan killed himself.
Now I understand the hype. I’ve yet to hear a candidate speak from the heart the way
@CoryBooker
did. I hope the rest of America gets to see that also. You rock
@cspain1920
And so do we! I’m glad Nebraska has recognized their error, and Gov. Pillen is doing what’s right. Now it’s time for
@henrymcmaster
to do the same here in SC!

We had an awesome campaign kickoff! Thank you to everyone who is knocking on doors and making calls in Cayce and Columbia today. I’m unbelievably grateful for the support.
I am proud to announce that we’ve raised over $97,000 in just the first 6 weeks of our campaign.
Words can't express my appreciation to everyone who has donated and volunteered. I'm truly humbled by your support.
