The Daily Mail has published another attack piece on the CofE for voicing a concern for the poorest. In it ex-MP Sir Gerald Howarth says: "Perhaps it might consider doing something for the homeless itself". I'll be sure to pass that on to all the volunteers at our winter shelter

The House of Lords sat throughout the night, only rising at 4.15am, to give essential scrutiny to Govt's Illegal Migration Bill, on such issues as detention of children & pregnant women. @BishopSouthwark spoke after 2am, supporting amendments on vulnerable people in detention.

I worked at Lambeth Palace in 2007 when Rowan took a sabbatical. George Carey took one before him. I've worked with dozens of bishops, most of whom have taken a sabbatical at one point or another. Bishops take sabbaticals, for study or spiritual reflection. It's not a holiday.

Perhaps the @Telegraph would take time out from its baseless attack on the integrity of the Church here to acknowledge that globally more than 340 million Christians suffer high levels of persecution & discrimination for their faith. Last year over 4,700 were killed for it.

On a daily basis I walk past people outside Parliament waving placards accusing MPs of being 'traitors', threatening consequences for 'betrayal', 'treason' etc. It is of deep regret that tonight the Prime Minister has taken up position against Parliament, & not in defence of it.

Dibley isn't a real place and it doesn't have a vicar. I found it hard to believe too, but I work for the CofE so I've been able to look into it. She's not even in Crockfords or anything.
