Something to consider as an outcome to the #meltdown crisis: global data centre power consumption has likely gone up by 20% or more. That's several new cities worth of power pollution in almost an instant. All from a security flaw.

@tkexpress11 @yezzer @unity This model just fundamentally doesn't work though. If I red team it all I have to do is spoof installs of my own game to unrealistic levels and claim pirate and bad actor behaviour. All unity needed to do was create a simple royalty rev model.

Rust, a community known for its... Passion, has already developed reinstall spoofers. There is no way unity can handle this. There is no way any Dev can trust unity will not enforce payment for fraudulent transactions.

@tha_rami Our account manager told me we'll be able to submit manual disputes to resolve all these issues. Nothing like a monthly injection of stress to find out if Unity agrees to roll back $20k bill the angry gamer that spoofed 200k installs over a month created. 🌈GAMEDEV🌈

@reduzio @godotengine C# is the key ecosystem that needs to be as first class as possible in Godot for us - It shouldn't ever lag in API and it should be the primary way to develop on the engine with full Visual Studio/Code debugging support within the editor itself.

@tkexpress11 @yezzer @unity Of course the same is true, even more so, for this model. Except the problem is now in the devs hands and not theirs. Does any tech company anywhere in the world currently run this model? It's just crazy to me they'd try to reinvent the wheel in so clumsy a way.

In the past we've given away large volumes of our Unity game for free or practically free. Under the new structure such a move would cost us literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars to do. I, honestly, do not know if we can continue to use Unity assuming this pricing structure.

@AntonHand @unity Nar it won't. It's clear they're using the existing DevOps API. So you can test this now using their logging service. It's whenever it loses the reg key they put for the unique id and/or whenever hardware changes. For example a Windows update or upgrade could cause it too. FUN.

And our Linux port has been quite bad (due to bad 3rd party code). You can absolutely make a profit (AND FANS!) off Linux support, and you'd be foolish to discount it out of hand.

I don't have all the answers, but I can clarify a few things about @unity price changes, and hopefully address some of the (very valid) concerns. 1. The runtime fee only applies to devs whose game makes over 200k revenue in a year, AND over 200k lifetime installs. AND. Not OR.

@JenMsft @damienguard These issues have been common for me since I adopted 11 a long time ago. Does submitting feedback actually help?

Even if you're not planning to make a move yet it is worth considering sending something towards Godot. I have a strong feeling that even if unity walk this mess back, were going to need viable alternatives.

We passed the €30,000 threshold on the Godot Development Fund today! 🎉 Thanks everyone for your support! 💙 Our current goal is to reach 50k as soon as possible, to secure the current payroll, and enable us to add a couple more developers to the team.

@ChrisAvellone @autographedcat @ThalliumOxide @SloppyPooBag So glad you said this. I still think there is a great niche for a modern isometric game ala FO1-2. So you ever sniff around for such projects?

@gitmanik @reduzio @foorfoogooshoo There is a proposal for this already in GitHub, however it's not quite reaching close to what most would expect unfortunately.

Gotta give props to the @godotengine crew for managing to stay sane whilst the unwashed masses of unity devs descend upon them giving them our demands and stressed to the gills opinions on how the world should turn haha.

@yezu @reduzio The C# ecosystem is utterly indispensable. It's an extremely well known and supported language. It's extremely performant. The best combo is C# with maybe GDS sprinkled on top in a few areas
