Tom Hougaard shared some interesting data. They did a study of thousands of traders covering 48 million trades. The average trader had a 66% win rate, Problem was their losing trade was 2X the average win trade. That's not a technical analysis problem it's a psych problem.

I’d rather have 2 50% positions in the very best stocks than 10- 10% positions. Growth stocks are so correlated Your down side risk is usually the same. But if you have to sell it’s harder to manage 10 stocks.

New traders just assume that they can short and make money in a bear market. Shorting is REALLY hard. Bear markets have the biggest rips and a lot of the progress on shorts is made on the gaps.

Traders that haven't seen a bear market will be shocked how low stocks can go when one arrives. Stocks like $UPST and $AFRM can go to < $10. Start preparing yourself for that time of paradigm shift. Just because a stock looks like a bargain does not mean buy it.

In reviewing my trades this year, my biggest losers are all trades where I moved a stop to give it a bit more room. So next year (or the remainder of this year, if the market shapes up), I won't trust myself. Hard stops and not allowed to move it even if would gap below.

Ive seen a lot of comparisons to 98-99. I traded that market as a young buck. The difference was everyone back then was euphoric, everyone now is convinced that the next pull back will retest the lows. In 99, you could literally buy any breakout and be up 30% the next day.

Is this a bottom or just a bear market rally? Here’s the thing — it doesn’t matter. Take advantage of the opportunity setups present and manage risk. 2000-01 had a ton of big moves even though the indexes eventually worked themselves lower after failed moves.

I clerked on the floor of the CBOE from 2001-02. That was a brutal market. I saw great traders blow out as liquidity dried up. (Market makers need trading activity to win). People don't realize how far stocks can go down. Many stocks went from 200-$2
