Programming Note:
This account will go extended hiatus (with closure a possibility) at the conclusion of the 2024 World Series.
This is my son's senior year, and I plan to devote more time to helping us win a state championship than I do discussing the Red Sox.
Thank you.
Triston Casas: "Boston's been treating me good. Saw a tree today. Love the vibe here."
ESPN Booth: "Sounds great... So, walk us through your mother's premature death."
James Paxton — who some Sox fans accused of stealing the team's money last year — and Jarren Duran — who some Sox fans wanted to kill last year — are leading the way tonight.
Actually, they've been doing it a lot lately.
If Casas hits a bomb, the same fans are gonna riot.
Alex Verdugo: "The cool thing about coming over to the Yankees is that they encourage me to be myself."
Yankees: "Hey, Alex... You gotta shave. And you can wear one necklace."
2018 Boston Red Sox world champions Mitch Moreland, Brock Holt, Eduardo Nuñez, Steve Pearce, Ian Kinsler, Brandon Workman, Bobby Poyner, Robby Scott, Steven Wright, Brian Johnson, and Rick Porcello are not currently playing professional baseball.
Trevor Story hurt himself going all out trying to make a play to help his team win. I guarantee he's 1,000,000x more frustrated than we are. No curse. No character flaw. He isn't soft. It wasn't a dumb play. He's a gamer. Period.

@FitzyMoPena
BOB COSTAS: "Gimenez with a great year at second base this year. Which reminds me, Jeff Kent is in the crowd tonight... Kent, a great second baseman who had nothing to do with the tragedy at Kent State in 1970."
RON DARLING: "Higashioka fouls one off."
Edgar Martinez was primarily a DH and was elected to the Hall of Fame.
Debate over forever.
Yes, David Ortiz deserves to be elected.

Picture this...
The Red Sox acquire a couple of good pieces today *and* Casas, Martin, Grissom, and Hendriks all return and become solid contributors before October.
I choose optimism.
Let's go.
Hey… Crazy idea…
Give Dugie a standing O today.
Doesn’t deserve one. Won’t expect one. But could probably use one.
As Verdugoes, so do we. And we need him to go.
We’re not trading him. Or DFA’ing him.
Or winning without him.
Unpopular Take(s): I don't want the
#RedSox
to sign *any* of the big-name free agent shortstops.
Leave Xander at short and Arroyo at second. Re-sign Iglesias for bench depth at both SS and 2B.
Pitching is our Achilles' heel, not SS. Direct the bulk of our resources there.
Me, every day...
2 p.m.: "Yeah... The Red Sox lost last night, but they're not officially out of it yet. Let's win today. Let's get something started."
11 p.m.: "Crap... They lost again."
Masataka Yoshida had a .960 OPS in seven seasons in Japan.
He's got an .805 OPS in his first year adjusting to America.
That puts him within a few points (+/-) of Randy Arozarena, Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Josh Jung, Bobby Witt, Jr., and Kyle Schwarber.
I'll take it.
Say what you want about Chris Sale...
He NEVER ducks questions.
He NEVER makes excuses.
He ALWAYS owns bad outings.
I lost track of how many times he's said he sucked in this press conference.
He's healthy. He'll figure it out.
Let's go.
If I was Xander Bogaerts and spent 30 seconds reading Red Sox Twitter, I'd be out of Boston as soon as humanly possible.
Is there a more spoiled fanbase than ours?
@FitzyMoPena
BOB COSTAS: "You know, I was once helping the great Vin Scully shop for paint at Lowe's. He settled on a gallon of Agreeable Gray for his home office, and I was just thinking to myself, 'Is there anyone more agreeable than V...'"
RON DARLING: "Straw with a fly to right."
OK, boys...
The Yankees are done.
The Mariners have lost three straight.
The Astros have lost two.
The Rays lost Wander Franco.
It's time to pounce.

My sympathies to the impossible-to-please contingent of Red Sox Nation who are physically incapable of enjoying this team because the salaries aren't high enough or every acquisition hasn't been absolutely perfect or your significant other left you or whatever.
I don't know why more players don't want to come to Boston. Beautiful fall colors. Four championships this century. Fans who hate the team. Media that hates the team. Great seafood. Lots of history. Great colleges.
I dunno. I'll figure it out somehow.
The first 30 years of my life: Zero Red Sox championships.
The last 18 years: Four Red Sox championships.
Yeah... We've made mistakes (like every MLB club).
But, I'm sorry...
I can't wallow in the bitterness that fuels so many of my Sox fan brethren.
Life is just too big.

Twitter Is Fun!
1. You mention a player you want to see on the team.
2. Someone tells you why it's a bad idea.
3. You still want the player.
4. They still think it's a bad idea.
5. You don't care.
6. Chaim doesn't know either of you exist. Does his own thing.
@FitzyMoPena
BOB COSTAS: Speaking of Judge, I can't help be reminded of the scandal involving the judges during the pairs' figure skating competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Canada, like Tristan McKenzie, thought they had done enough to win, but...
RON DARLING: Kwan takes one low.
I like our current roster more than any other roster we've had since 2018. And I'm probably going to like next year's even more.
But, sure, let's fire everybody because we haven't won *another* championship *fast enough*.
Yep. Let's be the Yankee fans we used to despise.
Xander Bogaerts is the best fit for the Boston Red Sox — in numerous ways that exceed the bump in WAR we might get from Turner or Correa. We're going to pay *somebody*. It makes sense we pay him.
I picked the Sox to win 90 games last year and our defense to be better than it was.
I own my wrong predictions. But I'm gonna roll 'em out again...
90 wins. Better defense.
Call me an idiot if it makes you feel better.
I'll live.
Casas.
Grissom.
Story.
Devers.
Could be our most cohesive infield in a long time.
Got a feeling Story and Grissom will feed off each other's energy, and will push Raffy and Triston to keep pace.
Raffy's only 27.
The idea of putting him out to pasture as a DH?
Premature.
There are two kinds of Red Sox fans:
1. Those whose first instinct is to look for reasons why the team can be successful
2. Those whose first instinct is to look for reasons why the team can't be successful
I'll always be in the first group.
The second group is a drag.

@Jared_Carrabis
is on the money (no pun intended) here:
"$420 million over 12 years is only an AAV of $35 million, which I believe Betts absolutely will get, if not exceed. It’s the years, more than anything, that I think has caused the major snag here in any extension talks."
I almost want the Red Sox to sign Rafael Devers to a contract extension this year more than I want the Red Sox to win the World Series this year.
(Spoiler Alert: We can do both.)
Yu Chang, after Taiwan was eliminated: “It’s completely different playing here. I feel relaxed because everyone is with us. But in the US, I feel like no one is with me and I must work hard, in silence.”
There needs to be a "30 for 30" about Rusney Castillo. Cuba, the big contract, coming to Boston, being banished to AAA, leaving, playing in other countries, what he's done with his money, etc. What a weird journey.
I'm seeing a lot of tweets saying the Red Sox have no shot of contending this year.
I would like to go on the record and say that I disagree with each and every one of you.
I would also not mind if you all jumped in the nearest lake.
1. Yoshida is 29 and played seven seasons in Japan, where he had a career OPS of .960 and was regarded as one of the country's top players.
2. Casas turned 23 in January and has played a total of 49 games at the big-league level.
3. You are a moron.
Yoshida over here getting his big league timing right and taking good swings while having a good eye at the plate is great to see. Unlike Casas, he doesn’t suck.
If I'm Chaim, I'm offering a Duvall an extension before the season's over. One year with a team option for two. You can always trade him if our OF situation truly becomes a logjam. (If it isn't already.) Somebody will want him.
Fun Fact:
96% of those chirping Chaim about Mondesi after the news of his lack of progress had temporarily forgotten we even traded for Mondesi until the report came out.
And 100% have not taken a single look at Josh Taylor's numbers this year.
Y'all are just bored.
Re-watched some 2004 ALCS games yesterday. Those games forever changed me. I will always choose optimism when it comes to the

. Sorry not sorry. Let’s go.

They should have done whatever it took make sure Don was involved -- in person or on video. Period. No explanation will hold water. EVERYBODY in the ballpark was likely thinking of Don as much as they were Jerry.
The number of Red Sox fans that ACTIVELY WANT the Red Sox TO BE BAD is astounding. This thread is but a microcosm.
I will gladly double down on my annoying optimism, thank you very much.
If you are legitimately bothered that the Red Sox signed Jorge Alfaro to a minor-league contract, may I humbly suggest that being a fan of a baseball team is perhaps not a healthy activity for you?
It's a big world. You can volunteer somewhere. Learn pottery. Read a book.
A year ago, Story was one of the must-have FA shortstops on the market. Now, he’s apparently an invalid. I love him at second. And I don’t hate him at short. There is five years left on his deal. The sky is not falling. Give me a 2B, a RH bat, and some more arms. And let’s go.
I might not run a huge media company that has been putting out an increasing amount of content featuring adults playing Blitzball in a warehouse during the middle of the day when the rest of us are working real jobs, but I think the Red Sox City Connect jerseys are pretty great.
I'm not the first person to mention this, but if Kutter Crawford was on another team, Red Sox fans would be drooling over him.
But he's on our team, and we barely talk about him.
I feel like the Red Sox are going to make a fairly large transaction.
Don't know who/what.
Can't say exactly when, but I feel like it's going to be sooner than later.
I dunno. Just a hunch.
Signed,
The Guy Who Knew Aaron Hicks Would Be DFA'd Right Before He Was DFA'd
If Trevor Story had signed with a team that needed a shortstop in 2022, that team (and its fans) would not have complained about Trevor Story playing shortstop for that team in 2022.
