Just had a bloody heartbreaking conversation with someone who has carved a tiny garden space for their family but regularly gets told it’s not a garden, it’s not properly planted etc, making them feel unwelcome in the gardening world. And that gardening is judgey and privileged.

Well that was a bit of a day. We both have parents in hospital. I’ve been cleared as cancer free. And all I can say is, thank f**ck for the incredible folk in the NHS. 1 more op and 5 yearly scans but I can cope with that. What a year........*takes a deep breath*

So time for just a bit of honesty….. Covid has floored me. The symptoms are still up and down and my mental health has taken a hit. Just as busy begins to get busy….. No sympathy required but just a reminder. Covid is still here and biting.

Hundreds of trees to be felled for Cambridge bus route to tackle climate change…… I’m sorry but what now? Trees that feed people, pollinators and likely are entire ecosystems in themselves? This is literally displacing nature……

Applause today to @waitrose in Keynsham who have included Mahonia in their car park hedging and pruned it at the right time to allow flowering!! Even car parks can be designed to support invertebrates. The flowers are so important for winter flying insects.

Visited 2 large garden centres today. Stood in both horrified at the amount of tat, but also the shock of unseasonably flowering plants! Lavender, hydrangeas, scabious all in full flower! And lots of almost dead tomato plants!! Cathedrals to consumerism.
