I looked into the declining attendance and overall apathy surrounding the Big 5 after Temple won a share of the title for the first time the 2012-13 season. If Sunday told us anything, it showed that fans will still come to watch games at The Palestra.

Penn State also ran ticket ads, promotional videos on social media, brought their band, and filled their student sections.
During the Owls’ game against La Salle in the Big 5 doubleheader on Nov. 30, Temple did not promote the event and just a handful of students made the trip.
Penn State is a Big 10 team and Purdue entered the contest ranked number one in the nation, but two visiting teams coming into town and putting on a better event at a place of Philadelphia basketball royalty is not a good look for Temple and the rest of the Big 5.
"Temple has a policy of making appropriate spaces available for rent to third-party organizations for these events regardless of their political party or stance," Englert says.
