This whole "Gwen Stacy is or isn't trans" argument strikes me as more of a 'viewers not knowing how to read movies' thing. It can simply be allegory to facilitate classic Spider-Man coming-of-age & outsider identity themes. It's subjective subtext, not a legitimate plot point.

Burton Batman was specifically designed to inhabit an expressionistic, gothic world. Removing him from that lens & plopping him in a generic DC action movie highlights the problem w/ thinking you can NWH everyone. Being in daylight's not the issue but it certainly doesn't help.

Infinity War's best trick was killing off the next generation of characters rather than, predictably, the original team. It's more tragic to symbolically destroy the future of the Marvel universe right when it was expanding. Makes for a better thematic cliffhanger. I don't agree.

Fuck the Oscars, let's talk Blade Runner 2049. I love K's arc in that film. It doesn't matter if you're born or manufactured, what matters is what you do with the existence you have. He chooses to fight for something real, and in turn ends up living for the first time. Beautiful.

YMS complaining that the cast sound different in Incredibles 2 is like criticising Harrison Ford for getting old in The Force Awakens. People age in the real world. It's called suspension of disbelief. I didn't love the film but come on.. Enough w/ the nitpicking culture.

The first Ant-Man stuck with Edgar Wright's visual influences from pre-production as like, a show of goodwill to reassure audiences (and just dropped it come the sequel), but did they ever stop to realise it was also a great, artful way to visualise the action scenes regardless?

The irony is that Marvel & Sony spent so much time and effort making his being part of a cinematic universe so much of his identity that you effectively have a whole new character having to contextualize Tom Holland's Spider-Man outside of that. Sounds vaguely promising..
