I loathe ppl that object to kids in aeroplanes/public spaces in general. They bought a seat(s), just like you did. You're an adult--use earplugs, noise cancelling headphones, watch a film, whatever. Kids' eardrums HURT w pressure diff in flights. Have some empathy & DEAL, ffs🙄🙄

Yeah, I live in the Deep South and most of my neighbours are the kind that don't want folks like me around 🤷🏾♀️ Staying by myself is a safety feature. No interest in accumulating microaggressions and similar nonsense. Not all of us have the luxury of welcoming neighbours.

Please refer to the country as Ukraine and not "the Ukraine." The latter term is Russia's rhetorical trick to signal that the region where Ukraine is, is just part of Russian territories, ignoring its sovereignty. It seems small but it's actually vital to use the right name.
@theashleyray
Most comments in the actual Reddit thread are like: you need gains, to lose 20 lbs, do keto/IF/weightlifting, change your pear-shaped look w/ sloping shoulders, etc. inly THEN will this outfit look good. Barely any actual fashion/fit advice. I prefer Derek's approach tbh.

Sorry, but Eloise doesn't deserve Pen. Even before the post-Whistledown reveal nastiness she was a shitty friend. Self-absorbed to the max, barely noticing Pen or her wants/needs/troubles, taking Pen's company for granted but not being there when Pen needs her, etc.🙄🙄 Just no.

While teaching in person, I make it clear, loudly and multiple times throughout the semester, that I'm way more lenient re. submissions etc. than the syllabus states. The extra rigid syllabus policies are there as a failsafe. I can always be more lenient, but the opposite is hard

@imjasondiamond
That's not his point, though? He said he's wanted to have kids always, so the urge to parent is not the issue. The issue is the quality of life his kids would have, the kind of fucked up world they'd inherit & grow up in. Would it be fair to bring kids into this world?

Nope. This is vile and an issue of informed consent. You may dislike vegans or vegetarians all you want, but you have no right to fuck with the food they injest. It is their body—they decide what goes in it. That simple. (I am an omnivore; also a big fan of basic decency)

Yes, that's the current accepted transliteration. But in historical documents, "suttee" is a widely prevalent spelling too. If they were reading abt the 19th century law banning it, etc. this usage makes sense to me.

Nope. As OP explained, all they're doing is reclaiming a term they're often called. In modern slang "ho" and "slut" are roughly equivalent.
@katherineschof8
@jacob_olander
I'm in agreement. I reckoned twitter character limits meant folks weren't putting "suttee" in quotes 🤷🏾♀️ In modern usage/context the archaic spelling isn't kosher. PS I'm a South Asianist too, albeit in literature. And I'm Indian, to boot.

Time to look for a new therapist, methinks. And a frank talk w/ your husband re. why precisely he is uncomfortable leaving your kids w his parents. If there's a can of worms, better it come out now, so your kids don't NEED to be resilient re. this particular scenario. Holy hell.

Cannot agree more. Too many predators in academia. I've witnessed so many; been harassed well to different degrees. It can be so awful. It can break you, destroy careers, shake your confidence, sense of self, belief in your intellect. Academia *needs* reform.

Occurs to me that a more useful summation might be: "suttee" is a far more Orientalised, archaic way to spell the term, popularised by the British--hence avoided in current usage. (Similar to using the archaic "Hindoo" for what is currently spelt "Hindu".)

Seems like you’ve missed OP’s point entirely. The problem is not that classical ballet is erotic by design, it is that other art/dance forms* get labelled “erotic and inaappropriate” for younger age groups/public display.

This summer I was travelling in Kerala and was lucky to pick up some coconut silk and banana silk sarees. They mix silk fibres with fibres from banana and coconut trees to make this incredible silk blend local to their region. (Ofc you get pure silk all over as well, we're lucky)

Eh, a classic Bengali comfort meal is steamed rice mixed with loads of spicy mashed potatoes (mixed with red chillies and mustard oil, onions optional) and loads of butter/ghee, salt and pepper. Maybe some pickles or fritters on the side if yer fancy. Or shoestring french fries!

CBT can help regulate mood swings and emotional dysfunction caused by neurodivergency. It helps reroute negative self talk into more positive directions, etc. It doesn’t have to go on for a long time either; my therapist suggested a couple months max for a very specific issue.

I mean "boomers" is a v umreekan term related to post WW2 prosperity, so makes sense. In India post WW2 we were dealing with Partition, riots, Emergency, Naxalbari, etc.

Afaik, it's anachronistic. Also aligned heavily towards British transliterations of the Sanskrit term, most likely following common British mispronunciations of the word. (Brits had trouble with soft "t"--"suttee" favours the hard "t"). Sati is more aligned w Indic pronunciations
