This is why MLB owners voted 30-0 to approve the relocation of the Oakland A’s with no details, no renderings, no stadium financing plan, no TV deal, no season ticket drive, no corporate deals, etc. MLB is using Oakland as an example to other cities. Pay to stay or relocate.

If that’s the case then it would make more sense to let the new ownership group buy the A’s, keep them in Oakland, and build a new stadium. Meanwhile let Fisher get an expansion team in Vegas as he gets several years to build his stadium and market his new team to the fans.

How many of those years were wasted on a wet dream of San Jose, Fremont & any place other than Oakland? Could’ve easily sold a % of the team to close the gap and/or built years ago. His legacy would’ve been cemented as something good. Instead he agreed to desperate deal in NV.

Oakland A’s fans and city leaders played it by the rules. Fisher hasn’t. Fans took off their gloves with SELL. Oakland mayor took off her gloves by saying the A’s lied. Politics and money. Finger pointing. In politics it can get ugly. Very ugly. Get your popcorn ready.

The Angelos family sold the Baltimore Orioles for $1.725B. Now rumor and innuendo has it that Arte Moreno could be next by selling the Los Angeles Angels. So many continue to wait to find out when and if John Fisher will do the same with the Oakland A’s.

MLB Network Radio host Jim Memolo said today that somebody who has worked in MLB told him “the #Angels are about to sell.” “Arte Moreno’s about to sell, according to this person.” The same person also speculated Mark Cuban as a potential buyer.

"I'm a big believer in the revenue opportunity in Las Vegas.” - Kaval Left 55 acres opportunity in Oakland to 49 acres in Vegas. Settled on 9 tiny acres with no ancillary development. Needs $175M from GLPI, $380M public subsidy and a waived relocation fee of $300M+. Sounds iffy.

OPINION: Mayor Goodman was right: A’s in Las Vegas doesn’t make any sense @schausmichael absolutely nailed it. NV lawmakers blindly approved $380M to Fisher without any real details and proof of real renderings, stadium financing, etc.

In April 2012, NBA Commissioner David Stern worked with the city of Sacramento and the Sacramento Kings owners to close the gap to seal a deal. Stern agreed to let the Kings borrow $67M through the NBA’s line of credit and authorized $7M of NBA cash. Manfred is no Stern.

“John would not take on any activity that he was not financially capable and excited to do.” Wolff said. Wolff said the quiet part out loud. Fisher could not finance a stadium in Oakland or the Bay Area. That’s how I’m interpreting his quote.

Fisher couldn’t build in Oakland. He can’t in Vegas despite so much help already from free 9 acres, $175M from GLPI, $380M from NV & no MLB relocation fee. He needs more help in $500M from investors. Cost will be more than $1.5B along with cost overruns. Fisher is MLB broke.

John Fisher: You have a paper that says the A’s are yours. It belongs to more people than just you. The A’s aren’t just an asset in your portfolio. The fan base & community are counting on you to do the right thing. If you love baseball keep the A’s in Oakland. This is the way.

“But one story that hasn’t gotten as much attention is one that could kill the A’s stadium outright. Where will they get the funding?” Still waiting for Fisher to put pen to paper. Unless he cuts a lot of corners, IMHO stadium will cost more than $1.5B.

Let me know when Fisher checks all of the boxes. Especially on how he will be able to fund a stadium. They still don’t know the true cost. 🚩 So with what we know today, I’m still not convinced the A’s will relocate to Vegas. The A’s belong in Oakland. This is the way. 🧵 9/9

In relocation sagas it’s always about politics & money. Finger pointing too. I’d rather see Fisher’s books. He put up A’s & Quakes as collateral for a loan. Gap stocks have tanked. He’s MLB broke. This is a PR spin job by the A’s & for the A’s. Nothing against @BizballMaury .

Agree with you on @KJ_MayorJohnson & Maloofs. Biggest reason why @SacramentoKings are still in existence is because of David Stern. There’s a street named after him. I’d love to see @MayorShengThao fly to Seattle for the All Star Game & speak to @MLB owners along with media.

Final thought... One reason the @SacramentoKings didn't move to Seattle is Sacramento had a mayor who literally stood before NBA owners and refused to let it happen. (The Maloofs were also willing to sell.) Oakland needs @MayorShengThao to be extremely proactive right now. 5/5
