If there was any truth to this, the A’s could point to specific aspects of the Oakland “political process” that stopped their plans. They haven’t.
The only thing missing, apparently, is Oakland not finding enough free money for the A’s.
A's owner John Fisher donated $6 million, almost 10% of the $65 million raised, for a dark money PAC to attack Barack Obama in 2012. His 2 brothers and mom donated another $3.8 million, totaling $9.8 million or 15% of the attack dollars.
He can spend $ on this, but not players
This is 100% correct. When the A's first brought up Howard Terminal, it was merely a stadium and some park area. Then they started adding hotels, housing, a gondola, etc. We could easily be shovel ready for a state-of-the-art waterfront ballpark WITHOUT a retractable dome to keep
“If the A’s had proposed a similar 9-acre ballpark project in Oakland, I can guarantee you that construction would have already begun.”
This is 💯 true.

A new White Sox stadium near downtown would make the most of views of the Chicago River and the Willis Tower, bringing explosive growth to the South Loop, prospective developers said Wednesday.

Hey,

, here is your evidence that Oakland A's fans deserve their own team.
We have the land, we have the fans, we have the spirit.
Once upon a time, a baseball team called the A's were in search of a new home. They thought they had found it in Oakland, but they had a change of heart and set their sights on Las Vegas. They asked for $500 million from the people of Nevada, but there was no deal in sight.

If A's fans need something to do after the successful Reverse Boycott, they should call on
@SpeakerMcCarthy
to schedule a vote ASAP on the
#MoneyballAct
to benefit California, which he represents. Need a catchy hashtag.
Dubbed The Moneyball Act after the well-known book about the A’s, this bill would require franchises that relocate to pay 10 years’ worth of local and state taxes that would have been generated for their former hometowns back to the regions they left.
The A's are in quite a bind,
Their new stadium hard to find,
Oakland's waterfront no longer their choice,
Las Vegas calling with a beckoning voice.
But funding's become a serious pain,
Nevada taxpayers holding the reins,
$500 million they need to secure,
The clock ticking,
Congresswoman Barbara Lee has sent a letter to MLB opposing their efforts to encourage and subsidize the A’s to abandon Oakland and the East Bay, and saying this runs counter to the purpose of their Federal anti-trust exemption. Full letter at:
“Bottom Line: The delay in releasing the stadium renderings has sparked concerns about the team's ability to secure necessary funding, raising questions about the stadium's future and the A's potential move to Las Vegas.”

Las Vegas mayor: “I’ve lived in this town 60 years, and so I know the town like the back of my hand,” Mayor Carolyn Goodman said. “I personally think they’ve got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland and make their dream come true.”
According to a spokesperson, Nevada's Senate majority leader, Democrat Nicole Cannizzaro, "...has not committed to supporting any deal, nor would she without seeing detailed legislative language and discussing it with her caucus."

Waterfront Ballpark project on Thursday, February 17 at 3:30 pm. You can leave a comment online
Expansion remains a far better option for fans in Las Vegas than the pathetic A’s, whose announced plan to purchase 49 acres of local land amid daily discussions with Oakland officials reflects that they were negotiating in bad faith.
Responding to a DM that asked “Why shouldn’t Howard Terminal remain industrial?” In words: cleaner air & water, open space & parks, investment in climate change remediation, public use of waterfront, cleaner/safer jobs for workers.
Well, look at this. The
@Athletics
are building a replica of the Sydney Opera House in Las Vegas. Like the original, those white sails belong on the waterfront.
Let's explore that:
- Desert vs Waterfront with SF/Bay views
- Domed with no fireworks vs Marina & Open Space
- 9 acres vs 55 acres
- Compete with Vegas shows vs Best Show in Town
- Limited Govt assistance vs new infrastructure
- Transient fan base vs Loyal fans

Besides baseball, Oakland is losing waterfront recreation, open space, economic boost to downtown and Jack London Square, housing, climate mitigations and major regional improvements. We will become the 12th largest city without a professional sports team.
I'm heartbroken about Oakland losing its last major sports franchise, but let us not forget who was behind destroying this "field of dreams" for the region and future generations of kids. Tactic of endless litigation and obstruction worked.
Hey,
@SteveYeagerNV
, I'll throw it back at you now. The percentage of people who come out winners in Las Vegas is 11%. The A's have already been losers in San Jose, Fremont, Laney College...so I wouldn't bet on them.
The A's best bet is, and always was, OAKLAND.
We can still have a waterfront ballpark. Let’s make it happen.
@Athletics
or expansion team…I’m ready.
An Oakland ballpark with waterfront views? It nearly happened in the 1960s
Port Commissioners and staff have made it clear that Howard Terminal is not needed for future operations. A multi-use, diverse, vibrant Port is the best solution for Oakland.

VERY DIFFERENT. Oakland, California and the Port pursued available grant money to make long needed improvements to infrastructure, provide pedestrian and bike safety and improve access/traffic.
Nevada stole $$$ from schools, students and teachers to directly fund a stadium.

For the record, the Las Vegas
@Raiders
ranked 30th in attendance out of 32 teams in the
#NFL
(and they’re not directly on the Strip). They’re also a more winning franchise than the A’s right now.
I love that the A's are now trying to parallel path their other parallel path that's led to them having nowhere to play for 3 years. And they still don't even have either of their 1st two paths secured.
“An expansion team created in the city’s own image and backed by a local ownership group with Las Vegas’ financial and marketing chops would be a fantastic success for the city and the league.”– The Nevada Independent
The smartest and most tactical thing that A's fans can do right now is to mobilize friends, family or co-workers in Nevada to oppose the $500 mil in public financing.
