I don't think people truly understand how much Mark Adams sacrificed not following Chris Beard & his former colleagues to Texas. I have the ultimate respect for Adams for staying behind and betting on himself to take over the TTU basketball program. I couldn't be happier for him.
Received some new information this morning:
- Chris Beard reportedly called Mark Adams several times yesterday attempting to lure him to Austin, Adams said no
- The Wombles are reportedly very high on Mark Adams taking over as HC
Breaking: Texas Tech has landed Division II All-American Chandler Jacobs. Absolutely HUGE get for Mark Adams. Will have an instant impact on this team.
Don’t be surprised if Texas Tech immediately begins to target current assistant and defensive architect Mark Adams for HC. Born in West Texas, Texas Tech graduate, widely regarded as one the most respected assistants in CBB. He’s currently my favorite to be the next HC at TTU.
Per his Twitter page, veteran leader
@kyleredwards_
is taking his name out of the transfer portal and will return to Texas Tech. Another absolutely huge win for Mark Adams and he's only been head coach for a few hours.
Kevin Obanor appreciation tweet:
Obanor is only the 2nd Texas Tech player since 1992 to average 10+ ppg, 5+ rpg, and make at least 45 3-PT shots in a season. Jarrett Culver was the other.
If Obanor returns to TTU for another season, he'd likely be a preseason All-Big 12 pick.
Marcus Santos-Silva has officially withdrawn his name from the transfer portal according to ESPN. Santos-Silva averaged 8.2 PPG and 6.4 REB last season for Texas Tech. Should see an increase in productivity with a new offensive scheme being implemented.

This is no disrespect to the previous staffs at Texas Tech, but Mark Adams has assembled one of the best staffs in school history this year from top to bottom. Plain and simple. Game planning, recruiting, coaching, etc. It’s all there.
Mark Adams has been preparing for this moment his entire life. Find him an assistant that can recruit, get this offense revamped, and play hard-nosed Texas Tech defense. I promise you we can compete with anyone in the Big 12 with Mark Adams.
Texas Tech fans can be a bit much sometimes.... 4th Big 12 game in 7 days including games against Kansas, Baylor, and Oklahoma St, guys were clearly EXHAUSTED, yet the sky is now falling for Texas Tech. 🤦♂️
Let's relax a bit...
Watching that press conference was absolutely brutal. Fans need to take it easy on Hocutt, this was all on Beard. Didn’t even give TTU a chance to counter offer. Also declined a “lifetime rolling contact” brought to the table months ago. Not very loyal for a guy that preaches it.
Texas Tech has landed a commitment from Florida State transfer Sardaar Calhoun.
- Former JUCO All-American, signed with FSU last summer over Alabama, Texas, Illinois, LSU & others
- Shot 40% from 3-PT & 86% from FT last season
- Two years of eligibility remaining
Mark Adams played a significant role in retaining
@Sn1per_T
for another season. I was told Adams flew out to visit TSJ at least three times and stayed in constant contact with him. I don’t think he’s done adding yet either. Huge day for the Red Raider basketball program.
What hiring Mark Adams means for TTU:
- A great chance to retain current personnel and those in the transfer portal
- Defense will potentially be even better under his full control + should see a new offensive philosophy
- Likely has a big name recruiter/staff already lined up
Mark Adams is as genuine as they come. He's an absolute slam dunk hire. One of the more memorable press conferences I've seen and it's only been a few minutes.
Mark Adams is one of the most authentic / down to earth people you’ll ever meet. That’s his “secret sauce” in recruiting. Oh yeah… He’s also a Golden Glove boxer and used to own a minor league hockey team 🤷♂️. Pretty damn cool coach we have here at Texas Tech.
Breaking: Per multiple reports Texas Tech has received a commitment from KJ Allen. Allen was previously committed to USC before flipping to TTU. Reminds me a lot of Mark Vital at Baylor. Absolutely HUGE pickup for Adams and his staff.

Texas Tech should absolutely give David Peavy (father of Micah Peavy) a call and see what interest he’d have in becoming a member of the next HC’s staff. Extremely well respected coach in the Texas highschool basketball scene and would help tremendously with recruiting.
BREAKING: Texas Tech has landed a commitment from 4⭐️ point guard Pop Isaacs (
@poppop_5
). Isaacs is a top-35 prospect in the country per
@247Sports
.
HUGE get for first year head coach Mark Adams. Pop chose Texas Tech over Oklahoma St, UNLV, & Arizona St.
Mark Adams gets a 5 year, 10 million dollar deal to start his head coaching career with Texas Tech. This is a team friendly deal that will allow Adams to target some very good assistants. Stay tuned for more.

Keep an eye on Arkansas transfer Desi Sills. Texas Tech just landed Arkansas Assistant coach Corey Williams & Sills has reportedly opened his recruitment back up after releasing a final 2 of Auburn & Texas A&M recently.
Breaking:
@Stadium
is reporting Mark Adams will take over in Lubbock as Texas Techs next head basketball coach. Absolutely HUGE news and 100% the right decision. Now we wait to see the staff he assembles.
Local basketball news:
Keep an eye on Shallowater (2023) prospect Kieran Elliott. A 6'7" forward that was all-state as a sophomore. Could very well be the next local star to play for Texas Tech. Anyone remember the last TTU recruit from Lubbock? 😉
Texas Tech MBB coaching staff as of today:
Mark Adams - Head Coach
Barret Peery - Associate Head Coach
Sean Sutton -Advisor/Player Dev.
Corey Williams - Assistant Coach
Darby Rich - Head Strength Coach
Don’t be surprised if Texas Tech immediately begins to target current assistant and defensive architect Mark Adams for HC. Born in West Texas, Texas Tech graduate, widely regarded as one the most respected assistants in CBB. He’s currently my favorite to be the next HC at TTU.
I spoke with 2023
#TexasTech
commit Drew Steffe & his dad last night and they are planning to order over 100 pizzas today for all of the students camping out. 🍕
#RedRaider
nation is SPECIAL,
@MattSteffe
@DrewSteffe
It should not surprise anyone that TTU has lost so many players to the transfer portal. This is what happens when you lose your head coach & the majority of the staff. Please try and be patient and give Mark Adams a chance to do his job. Beard was not successful overnight either.
The case for Darvin Ham:
- Top assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks, 10+ years of NBA coaching experience
- Has worked with names like Kobe Bryant & and most recently Giannis
- Coached under Mike Budenholzer & Mike Brown
- Former TTU player
- Has a chance to retain Mark Adams
Mark Adams & his staff have clearly prioritized recruiting guys that can shoot.
Ethan Duncan: 27 PPG, 44% 3-PT, 91% FT
Chandler Jacobs: 20.8 PPG, 45% 3-PT, 83% FT

BREAKING: Terrence Shannon Jr has elected to withdraw his name from the NBA draft and return to Texas Tech for his junior season. Terrence Averaged 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, & 1.1 steals per game last season for the Red Raiders.
According to a source I spoke with last week, Chris Beard called Mark Adams over fifteen times attempting to convince Adams to follow him to Austin. Seems to line up with this statement. Adams would’ve likely been the highest paid assistant in CBB if he took that job.
If Texas Tech can land Kevin Obanor, you’re looking at a potential starting lineup of:
Kevin McCullar - 10.4 ppg
Terrence Shannon Jr - 13 ppg
Mylik Wilson - 13 ppg
Bryson Williams - 15.1 ppg
Kevin Obanor - 18.7 ppg
TTU would also have one of the deeper benches in CBB.
2025 5 star PG Kingston Flemings (
@K1ngFlemings
) on his unofficial visit with Texas Tech this weekend 👀
Top priority in the class for the Red Raiders.
Show some love Red Raiders nation 🔥
I think it's important to remind people that regardless of what these players decide to do we support them & leave out the negative comments. These recruits/players built relationships with the previous staff & it's not their fault the circumstances have changed.
Texas Tech NBA presence since Chris Beard became head coach:
Z. Smith - 2018 16th overall pick
J. Culver - 2019 6th overall pick
J. Ramsey - 2020 projected 1st round selection
T. Owens - 2019 two-way contract
M. Mooney - 2019 two-way contract
K. Evans - 2018 two-way contract
A Texas Tech core of McCullar, Peavy, Agbo, Tyson + potentially returning McClung & Shannon Jr will be very hard for Chris Beard to move on from. I’d argue Texas Tech has the best young core in the Big 12 and I’m not sure it’s even close.
Don’t be surprised if there’s four guys over 6’6 in the starting lineup next season for Texas Tech. This is a long/athletic roster full of guys that can guard multiple positions on defense. Going to be an absolute nightmare for a lot of teams.
According to a source Chris Beard and his staff have made landing Jonathan Kuminga a focal point the last few weeks and have made one BIG final push to land the
#1
ranked prospect. He will choose between Texas Tech and the G-Leage it’s believed.

According to one of our staff members, Mac McClung, Marcus Santos-Silva, Tyreek Smith, Clarence Nadoly, and Chibuzo Agbo were all spotted in Lubbock last night. This does not guarantee anything in regards to McClung & Smiths return but does seem to be a good sign.
Chris Beards resume since joining TTU in 2016:
- 2018 Elite 8
- 2019 Final 4, & National title runner-up
- 2019 AP coach of the year
- 2019 top-15 recruiting class
- 2020 top-10 recruiting class (including 1st McDonalds All American)
- Produced 2018 & 2019 1st round NBA picks
Top 25 junior KJ Lewis will begin his official visit with Texas Tech tomorrow.
Lewis is a longtime Texas Tech target and one of the highest rated guards in the country.
Recruit Watch 🚨
- Texas Tech has shown interest in 6’3” combo guard Chandler Jacobs from Dallas Baptist
⁃ Averaged 20.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game
⁃ Division II All-American
I spoke with Jacobs and he confirmed his interest in the Texas Tech program.
Darvin Ham is another very intriguing name to keep an eye on. Currently the top assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks, former Texas Tech player, has 10+ years of NBA experience. Would likely be a home run recruiter & could bring a more exciting style of play to Lubbock.
5⭐️ big man Yohan Traore on his official visit last weekend W/ assitant coach Corey Williams. Texas Tech was Traores first official visit.
📸 - Yohan Traore / Instagram
According to
@Rivals
Texas Tech commit Ethan Duncan ultimately chose the Red Raiders over Texas. Duncan averaged over 27 points per game last season and shot 44% from 3-PT.
Breaking: Texas Tech has landed a commitment from 6’6” Hampton transfer Davion Warren per (
@_davwarr3n
).
- Averaged 21.2 pts, 6.3 reb, & 3 ast per game last season
- Former Memphis commit
- Was being pursued by Arkansas, Texas A&M, Georgia, & others
📸 - Hampton Athletics
Texas Tech is a team that no one will want to face come March. Defense & points in the paint travels. They do those two things as good as anyone in the country. So impressed with this team.
Another Lubbock-based prospect I absolutely love is Kiante Williams. Williams is a 6'10"small forward from Lubbock Estacdao & currently rated as a 4 ⭐️prospect by ESPN. Williams is a member of the class of 2022 and could very well be a Mark Adams target. TONS of local talent.
What a birthday present for
@CoachTHester
landing his guy
@_KevinObanor
. For those that don’t know, coach Hester was the lead recruiter for Obanor at Oral Roberts and it seems that relationship played into his recent commitment.
@CoachAdams_TTU
and his staff are killing It.
Fun fact: Mark Adams led Howard College to the 2010 NJCAA National Championship and was named the NJCAA’s National Coach of the Year. The team was led by current Phoenix Suns forward and NJCAA Player of the Year Jae Crowder.
@CJC9BOSS
BREAKING: Texas Tech guard Darrion Williams will return to Texas Tech for his junior season, he announced.
Williams was an All-Big 12 Third Team selection as a sophomore.
Mark Adams off-season resume:
- Flipped commits from Memphis & USC
- Landed a former Kyle Macy freshman All-American in Mylik Wilson
- Beat out Texas, Arkansas, etc for Bryson Williams
- Landed transfers from FSU, Arizona, & Winthrop

TTU’s defense is undoubtedly what has made them special over the last five years. The offense has been nothing to brag about. Mark Adams is the man who developed this defense & implemented the game plans every week. Adams has not received nearly enough credit for Beards success.
