Missed my bus today. Took Lyft bikeshare instead. $10.85! Definitely unaffordable for frequent use. I've paid less for human Lyft drivers to take me the same distance.
@RepEpps
I voted for you in the primary and I respect your opinion on this but I absolutely disagree. 600 affordable units and a free park is an absolute improvement over the status quo. This outcome is better than any other near-term counterproposal on the table.
Toronto just legalized multiplexes citywide and Austin just abolished parking requirements citywide. Denver is getting left behind; it is time for our electeds to meet the moment and lead on zoning reform.
@SteveStaeger
@denverparksrec
Stick a decibel reader on any arterial road in Denver and I guarantee you it will be louder than a pickleball court. But we can't we regulate vehicle noise?
"Housing policy is climate policy.
"Housing policy is economic policy."
"Housing policy is transportation policy."
"Housing Policy is water policy."
"Housing policy is public health and equity policy."

HUGE housing wins in Austin today!
Council just passed resolutions to:
- Legalize 3 homes on every lot by-right
- Lower minimum lot size to 2500sqft
- Exempt 3 and 4-plexes from site plans, expediting approval from 1yr+ down to 60 days
Things are looking up in good ole ATX!
@RepEpps
If you advocate for legislation to reduce car dependence and/or the negative consequences wrought by this, I will back you up. 750 Colorado crash deaths is just the tip of the iceberg and it is unacceptable.
Can Denver just ban leaf blowers already? As I tweet, their infernal noise has been permeating several blocks in my otherwise peaceful city neighborhood for 30 minutes, all in the name of blowing dust and grass clippings around. What a pointless and obnoxious activity.
".. a house today costs over four times as much compared to today’s income levels than 60 years ago, putting the dream of homeownership out of range for too many Coloradans. This has got to stop."
- Governor Jared Polis, 2023 State of the State Address
The cheapest single family home in Santa Clara, California, home of Silicon Valley Bank, is $899K, per Zillow.
It has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and 650 square feet.
@SeansInstaName
@mnolangray
Well over a thousand units, but the building to the right (The Grand) is vacant due to pipe flooding issues. This is the Union Station area.
It would have been nice if they had constructed sound barriers at highway adjacent RTD light rail stations. The traffic noise is so loud and degrades the waiting experience.
Today is the last day of my twenties. I'll be spending much of it at the Colorado State Capitol testifying in favor of the land use bill SB23-213 alongside my fellow
@Yimbyindenver
activists.
@KyleClark
@MikeJohnstonCO
Hi Kyle. As President of YIMBY Denver, I agree with you that this sort of rhetoric does not advance our cause. We encourage everyone who identifies with our movement to engage in constructive dialogue with the goal of building bridges and common understanding.
The recent pro-housing, pro-transit, and pro-climate wins in the Colorado State Legislature are the culmination of many years of Yes-In-My-Backyard advocacy. It is so fulfilling to have played a part in this. Yet there is more still to do. Onward!
@Yimbyindenver
YIMBY Denver supports both Land Use Bill SB23-213 and Just Cause Bill HB23-1171 because we know that while 213 addresses the housing shortage in the long term, 1171 provides displacement relief for our most vulnerable community members in the near term.
@ConorMichael28
Excessively loud vehicles. But also commercial leaf blowers. The latter are particularly annoying and pointless, especially during the spring and summer seasons.
@WilliamHazen7
A building's relationship with its geography is fundamental to its history IMO. I guess moving a building is alright as a last resort though.
Republicans in other states like Washington and Montana supported state preemption of local zoning to legalize multiplexes everywhere. Why not in Colorado? If we could lose a few Dem votes I reckon SB213 wouldn't have been pared back so significantly.
@RepEpps
I appreciate all the housing work you've done so far at the Capitol. I simply believe we need to pull every private lever and every public lever to solve the housing crisis. I think that blocking the PHGC project hurts the overall cause.
This week I was honored to interview
@GovofCO
@jaredpolis
. Housing and land use policy reforms are essential to any affordability and climate strategy. I am proud to live in a state where our governor leads the charge on these issues!
“More housing now!”—
@jaredpolis
at our event last night. Thank you so much to everyone who made it out to hear what the governor had to say about the future of housing and transit in our state!
@mnolangray
I am personally pretty libertarian on drugs but smoking in a confined transit vehicle is inexcusable. The legal system should incentivize individuals to take those activities elsewhere by whatever means necessary. Transit is the LAST place society should tolerate drug use.
@RepDianaDeGette
Did you support the DCCC backing Jason Crow over Levi Tillemann? Steny Hoyer is quoted, "I didn’t know Crow. I didn’t participate in the decision. But a decision was made early on by the Colorado delegation". Why even have a primary?
Why hasn't
@RideRTD
restored 15 minute headways on the E and H lines now that the coping panel project is on pause for the winter? I desperately miss frequent trains.
@RideRTD
and Denver Transit Partners canceled the 1:00pm A Line to DIA due to staff shortage with less than one hour notice on their rider alerts. Why cannot more notice be provided? Is employee availability not determined on at least a 24 hour cycle?
@CandiCdeBacaD9
YIMBY Denver opposed Denver Initiated Ordinance 303 (urban camping ban enforcement). We also advocated for HB-1117 to legalize inclusionary zoning.
"We need more flexible zoning to allow more housing, streamlined regulations that cut through red tape, expedited approval processes for projects like modular housing, sustainable development, and more building in transit oriented communities."
@GovofCO
2023 State of the State
@CandiCdeBacaD9
I reckon most YIMBYs would support social housing. I support any capitalist or socialist approach to increase housing supply. Supply is the blind-spot that inspired the formation of YIMBY Denver. Scarcity undermines the effectiveness of other valid approaches.
Thank you
@GovofCO
for this Proclamation! E-bikes are one of the most climate friendly in transportation modes. Government support goes a long way towards increasing adoption for little cost.
Based on all of the name drops by other candidates at the second 9News debate it is clear
@MikeJohnstonCO
is the frontrunner in the Denver Mayoral election IMO.
@fozznaut
@the_transit_guy
Because they connect better and are more consolidated instead of having spread out dead ends. Frequent intersections are more important than straight vs curved.
Rush Limbaugh: "Keep an eye on this guy. He is gonna make mincemeat of all the rest of these people. When his comes to face these people in debate, if he gets that far, keep an eye on Mayor Pete of South Bend. It’s all I’m gonna say."

My good friend Adam Estroff is running for Denver City Council prioritizing affordable housing and sustainable transportation. Today is the last 9x match day to turn $50 into $500. It would mean a lot to me if you could donate to his campaign.
@burley_zack
Per the article this is one out of every seven home sales. Certainly not dominating the market. I see this more as a symptom of scarcity than a direct cause of high prices. The scarcity itself is causing the high prices.
Before the permanent discontinuance of the F Line in 2020, the Southeast Corridor between downtown and the DTC enjoyed 7 and a half minute headways between the E and the F. I hope we can get back to this quality of service again and it is not forever lost.
@chrisFnicholson
Both DEN and DIA are acceptable IMO. DEN is derived from KDEN which is the ICAO code that pilots use. DIA is the acronym for Denver International Airport, which is the official name of the airport. Why is this such a big deal?
@COChicanoJoe
I do think there is potential to redirect road expansion dollars into walk/bike/transit infrastructure. If we grow up instead of out we won't need new/bigger roads. We spend a lot of money on that.
@jahorne
I was amazed when I visited that walk and bike infrastructure was not more robust considering NYC's exceptional population density. Why are car-free streets so rare? Why isn't the bicycle infrastructure world class?

HB 1110 passed 35-14 in Washington. Bipartisan. Property rights plus sustainable, affordable urban growth should be a winning combination to appeal to both sides!
@RachelIEastwood
What if we just, idk, stopped leaf blowing? I don't understand why this is a necessary landscaping activity outside of fall. I watch these crews and I cannot for the life of me figure out what they are accomplishing. Blowing debris from one area to another area.
Please
@COSenDem
vote to pass HB24-1304 out of committee this Thursday! This is my favorite bill of the session! Local government mandated parking abundance isn't necessary to preserve quality of life and it comes at huge cost to housing and climate.
“Since the city of
#Minneapolis
eliminated residential parking minimums in 2021, rents have only increased 1%, while
#Denver
saw an average increase of nearly 5% in just the last two years.”
Perhaps Denver should focus a smidgen less on housing cars? 1/2
@RepEpps
@colfaxmachine
Other states like California and Oregon have passed bills legalizing small scale multiunit housing like duplexes/quadplexes (or more!) statewide, overriding municipal single family home-only zoning codes. YIMBY Denver hopes to see the same in Colorado.
@KyleClark
@MikeJohnstonCO
@Yimbyindenver
would love to engage in a conversation with you about our pro-housing grassroots movement and why we are so excited to be part of Mike Johnston's coalition.
This is a massive step in the right direction to address the housing shortage in our state and meet our climate goals.
@Yimbyindenver
looks forward to working with legislators to pass this bill and make Colorado a more affordable and inclusive place to live.
#morehousingnow
Congratulations to my friend
@chrisFnicholson
on this well earned endorsement! I am looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish on the RTD Board of Directors. A reliable and convenient transit system is critical to Denver's sustainability and capacity to thrive.
I was inspired by
@MikeJohnstonCO
to run for RTD. His drive to tackle Denver’s challenges with ambitious change is exactly the mentality RTD needs now. His successes showed me what’s possible.
It is truly humbling to know Mike believes in me and to announce his endorsement.
@aj_mcnulty
@FlorForDenver
As a new D7 resident in Governor's Park I'd welcome a microcommunity across the street from my own home and I welcome the two proposals on the table nearby in Golden Triangle. These communities don't have the problems that unsanctioned camps have.
@WoodrowForCO
This is outrageous! There are too many veto opportunities when it comes to building housing. Reform is desperately needed. I believe that even CHUN supported this proposal.
Avoiding the worst of climate change requires reducing VMT. Electric vehicles by themselves are inadequate to meet this challenge. Government policy must mainstream walking, biking, and transit in American life.
To be clear I still support SB23-213 as currently amended. I won't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. But I am disappointed when comparing this to the boldness of the original draft.
@NoSquish
Downtown is hurting but not dying. It misses the 100k+ office workers coming in. Residential growth hasn't made up for that loss. Recovery to pre-pandemic foot traffic is going to take forever. I try to support downtown businesses in the meantime.
"Some people really do want to see more housing in general, even if they don’t want construction next door. The problem is that the local institutions charged with land-use decisions are attuned to parochial complaints, not large-scale needs."
My newest column, in
@DenverWestword
: Thursday night’s mayoral forum was disappointing for a lot of us to watch. Municipal candidates running on pro-housing platforms should practice what they preach, and support the Park Hill Golf Course plan.
We've dug ourselves into a hole as deep as the Marianas Trench when it comes to housing affordability and sustainability. With the failure of SB213 we have opted to keep digging this hole.
"We need an approach that creates more housing now, protects Colorado's resources and reduces sprawl."
- Governor Jared Polis, 2023 State of the State Address
This is some heinous legislation coming out of my home state. Imagine if the Colorado state legislature banned bus lanes on Colfax, killing Colfax BRT and forfeiting federal dollars. Even worse the voters of Indianapolis already voted to fund this project. So malicious!
In a display of absolute gross overreach, the Indiana State Legislator has passed a bill banning future dedicated bus lanes in Indianapolis. This effectively kills IndyGo's plans for the critical East/West Blue Line BRT connecting the city's dense Eastern neighborhoods with

@shoffman239
I agree non-market solutions are needed for the lowest income among us but I strongly disagree with this report's narrative that market rate development is unhelpful. As long as high end units are absorbed, they are preventing bidding wars for older units.
@MidwestDeplore
I won't apologize for appealing for bipartisanship. Is it a cardinal sin to seek some common ground across the aisle? Tribalism is killing this country.
@shoffman239
It shows the market is working because the supply caused rents to drop! However the vacancy rate is still 5.6% which is not exceptionally high. My ask is simply to support new construction at any price point from luxury market rate to publicly funded 0% AMI.
@dcwoodruff
This is a great article, but I think your tweet is overly pessimistic. The TOC, Parking, and ADU bills even as amended will have a major positive impact impact on housing and land use in Colorado. There is more work to be done, but we made real progress this year.
@NoSquish
@SteveStaeger
I'm really curious what is going on behind the scenes here as the report mentions that the Fire Department already approved these designs and they were tested with actual fire trucks.
@COChicanoJoe
@RepDMB
To be clear I'm not advocating for shifting rural Western Slope/Eastern Plains road expansion dollars to Front Range multimodal projects. I am advocating for shifting Front Range road expansion dollars to Front Range multimodal projects.
@jordanbpeterson
Human prosperity is not preconditioned on automobility. There are better ways to get around if we design alternative infrastructure. Car dependent society is NOT the pure expression of the free market; government incentivized and subsidized our transportation status quo.
@nbminor
Is it really impossible to complete this work without a less severe disruption? Combining this with reduced frequencies and reliability in the E Line through October is a lot to swallow. We can't increase ridership with these conditions.
@CandiCdeBacaD9
@DenverPolice
I completely agree with you on this. Makes zero sense. DPD should not have the power to make unilateral decisions like this.
SB23-213, the

The buck stops with Mayor and council. Be sure to vote in the April 4th municipal election.
@Yimbyindenver
is endorsing a solid slate of candidates.
The money our state legislature provided to eliminate fares for the month of August is a total waste if RTD is not able to provide predictable and reliable service.
@yfreemark
I don't get how Philadelphia scores so poorly. That is one of the most bustling and vibrant downtowns I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. Better than Denver where I live now.
