Someone I know visited a parish to preside during a vacancy. At the end a lady approached and questioned why the host hadn’t been raised. When asked why this was important to the lady, the answer was, “that’s when I’m supposed to switch the urn on”…. 😂
Please pray for the repose of the soul of James Whitbourn, composer and Senior Research Fellow at the college, who has died and for his family and many friends who now mourn him.
I’m delighted to have received this copy of Dr Pusey’s corporal, originally made by Mother Marian Hughes, the Church of England’s first nun. Made impeccably by Maris Stella Vestments.
An extraordinary communication from Canterbury Cathedral about the consecrations on Thursday, which apparently are too controversial to be seen by the public.
@gavinashenden
I really do think that you are grossly over-estimating the approbation you think these people want from you and the chairman of the Latin Mass society.
This dense work is yet another conclusive demonstration that the whole ‘Mass facing the people’ innovation has no historic liturgical basis. Sadly it is probably too embarrassing yet for people to admit that the money spent and the damage done has all been a huge mistake.
The college is very pleased to announce that as patron it has presented the Revd Martha Weatherill (SSH 2015-17) to be the new vicar of the parish of Cowley St John in Oxford. Martha is currently priest-in-charge of Lavant and Rural Dean of Chichester.
Very sorry to learn that
@ChurchTimes
has cancelled Serenhedd James’ diary column - losing a much needed UKME Anglo-Catholic voice hardly seems much of a commitment to diversity.
“At last people will see that this Christian faith that we share means something. It is actually being lived out in really, really hard, painful decisions — like what you do when you replace your boiler.” The best way to to become a younger church?
The Archbishop of Canterbury said this to the Lambeth Conference. What the great Bishop Butler in fact said to John Wesley was this ‘Sir, the pretending to extraordinary revelations and gifts of the Holy Ghost is a horrid thing, a very horrid thing’. Who fact checks this stuff?
@ClarkeMicah
I saw two police officers on foot patrol on the Cowley Road this morning, for the first time I can remember. They were enforcing mask wearing in Sainsbury’s.
Media contact the college this morning: is the Principal available to go on the wireless at the weekend? The Principal: feels smug, starts running over the details about armills and supertunicas. The Producer speaks to the Principal: you have strong views about ducks in fonts?
An M R James moment - an abandoned garden next door to us, within which is the base of a ruined temple. But who still trims the topiary at the entrance?

The British Ambassador to Paris at the time spoke grammatically flawless French with no attempt at an accent. When asked why he said ‘Say por montrey kjay lar flot arnglaz derrier mwa’
Come, Thou holy Paraclete,
And from Thy celestial seat
Send Thy light and brilliancy:
Father of the poor, draw near;
Giver of all gifts, be here;
Come, the soul’s true radiancy.

John V Taylor at Winchester didn’t like wearing one. A mitre was carried in front of him at his enthronement, causing Graham Leonard’s wife Priscilla to genuflect to it, thinking it was the Blessed Sacrament in a pyx.
Your prayers for His Eminence Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia who is now moving into the final stage of this life. Thanks be to God - he is not in severe pain.
He has received anointing and the Holy Mysteries. He is quite calm and repeatedly gives glory to God for all things.

session says:
"So many people feel excluded or marginalized in our church because we have slapped abstract labels on them: divorced and remarried, gay people, polygamous people, refugees, Africans, Jesuits!"

Watching the large chunks of ice drop from the sides of a defrosting freezer is very therapeutic, a bit like icebergs separating from glaciers. Get a chair and a book and sit there all afternoon.
