If an FY1 junior doctor worked a regular 9-5 Mon-Fri 37.5 hour rota, they’d make £22,956 a year. The Civil service grad scheme pays £27,000 and accepts applicants with a 2:2 in any discipline. Tell me junior doctors aren’t getting ripped off…

Going to medical school was by far the worst decision I’ve ever made but I’m fairly good at it so I’ve somehow managed to a point where I’m too far through to quit, not bad enough to fail but get almost zero satisfaction from doing it

It’s great that CPR is taught in schools but are we failing the public by not also teaching that death is a natural process and CPR/advanced healthcare interventions aren’t always the answer?

@LeylsTurk I really don’t understand why payroll departments think allowing an employee to go without pay for a month is an acceptable solution to an error made my the organisation but it seems so widespread within NHS culture

Sad to leave ICU today, working in the unit during the pandemic was a real eye opener. I’ve been so fortunate to work with a fantastic group of people. The knowledge, skills and teamwork of the staff there is truely phenomenal.

Addiction is an illness not a crime. The world has changed massively since the early 70s yet the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 remains in force. When will the government realise that current drug policy does little to reduce drug use or protect lives.

@MdSlutty I worry that traditional attitudes about professionalism might be used as a tool to systematically exclude miniority groups - the lack of diversity in medicine is the real threat to the public’s confidence in the medical profession. 2/2.

@medstudentali I think you’ve missed the point, an undergraduate medicine course is 5-6 years long compared to a 3 year BA/BSc in other disciplines. Surely it follows that what is essentially a medical grad scheme should pay more?

@ClareGerada @aashfaque14 @Cleverclog67596 @ExplosiveEnema2 @rcgp I’m struggling to understand how HCA plus a 2 year MSc better prepares somebody for primary care compared to a 4-6 year medical degree and at least 12 months at FY1 level? When I started as a HCA the only training needed was BLS, manual handling and an hour lecture on IP&C.

I’m not the complaining type but trying to access an NHS service and it’s almost impossible. A triage call within 48 hours and they only make one attempt at calling before you need to re-refer (and go back to the end of the list). Being a patient isn’t easy these days.
