One of these is Burberry's new logo - it took 'the UK's most famous graphic designer' (Guardian, 2013) 4 weeks to create. The other, I just knocked it up in Word in 20 secs. Which is which?
Answer here (including a monogram that is actually quite cool):
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times.
If you don’t have a ‘what to do when your CEO sings “We’re in the Money” while mic’d on merger day’ statement ready come the announcement, your PR crisis plan is useless.
Last Thursday, we (
@HeyRadioactive
) helped to celebrate the roll out of

From the VIP guest list to the media to the ad vans to the boxing machine, we made sure the legend

My 9 year old son has absolutely flown through all of the Harry Potter books. Any recommendations for books/series he might similarly like? The Hobbit/LOTR seems not to grab him just yet, for some reason
Hi, I work in PR. You may know me from my greatest hits, including, “No, I cannot guarantee that you will go ‘viral’”, “Did it get a follow link?”, “No, I didn’t know Max Clifford” and “Yes, I know it has the journalist’s name on it, but I was involved, honest.”
Hi, I’m a climate scientist. You may know me from my greatest hits including, “No, it’s not a natural cycle,” “Yes, I know it’s been warmer before (and the only reason YOU know is because we scientists told you so),” and “Just because it’s on YouTube doesn’t mean it’s true.”
PR Land & adjacent friends, your attention please 📢
We're organising 2 PR parties in London & Manchester this summer, JUST BECAUSE. No agenda: let's do whatever people did in bars before all of this.

Give it a share, see you there!
This is bloody brilliant PR from
@Airbnb
. Members of the public can stay in a recreation of Winnie the Pooh’s house in the original Hundred Acre Wood, to mark the original book’s 95th anniversary 👏.
Simple but effective PR effort to mark the launch of the PS5 - underground signs around Oxford Circus have been changed to Sony's famous controller symbols.
A similar stunt was done in 2013 to mark the launch of the PS4, taking over the OXO Tower:
It’s been 6 months since we started our 4-day work week at
@Radioactive_PR
, without cutting staff pay. Here's the impact it's had on the agency (including financials).
TL:DR - IT GOOD.
Hi <first name>,
I don’t much care how you are or how relevant this is. Write positively about <client> and bloody well follow link OR ELSE.
Yours inhumanely,
Rich
(Feel free to borrow my newly apathetic pitch format based on repeated journalist feedback, PR Land x)
I know PR is a tough job. But if you don’t know me (and generally you haven’t even read a word I’ve written or you wouldn’t send me the rubbish you do) please don’t begin your email ‘I hope you are well’. Or worse ‘I hope you are well!’ Why? I’m a stranger.
We’ve posted a roundup blog of journalists keen for non-Coronavirus stories.
Hopefully it’s helpful for both PRs and journalists in these odd times.

and we’ll add to it throughout the week:

Talking about attention-grabbing stunts, I love this ballsy agency effort.
Gymshark's chief brand officer
@NoelMack
asked for local agency recommendations on LinkedIn.
Here's how
@RobertBloxham
(founder of branding agency
@thisisorb
) responded.
Lovely PR, this. Like when journalists received an actual chocolate press release for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical, it’s great when you can come up with a relevant additional thing to do/send
Blimey.
@Disney
not doing things by halfs to launch Star on
@disneyplus
.
They've named an actual star after me in the actual galaxy.
Beats a press release.
Turns out the Woolworths hoaxer was a 17 year old ‘practising skills learned while taking a course in digital marketing’.
Being serious for a sec, if you are that 17 yo, let’s chat about an internship at our PR/social agency once you’re done with your A-levels. DMs open!
Have had some very kind client and pitch feedback this week about the team in general, which we’ve loved sharing with them. To all the clients of agencies out there, the odd remark makes more of a difference than you’d know - after the last year, a little love goes a long way!
9 years ago, I started
@HeyRadioactive
, solo and self-funded. I’d just turned 27.
Anybody that’s worked in and around PR knows: the highs are high, and the lows are bloody low. Times that by approximately… a billion when it’s your train set.
I’ll save it for our next
(Consumer) PRs on both sides of the pond, I’ve had a word with the press release gods and I hereby declare it your Christmas break. Down your tools, and order something strong. Expense it, I dare you.
Hey PR Land. Guess what?
Sponsors sorted. Venues booked. Free bars UNLOCKED.
You know what this means.
Keep your eyes peeled on Monday for a
#summerPRty
announcement!
We would all save SO much dancing about if clients (that know what their PR budget is) told us their budget. I get that it's probably an FD somewhere thinking an agency might quote under it and they're 'saving' money. Any of you that are client-side care to shed any more light?
NEW CLIENT YAYS. Proper team effort, long pitch process, amazing feedback on our proposal. That's 4 wins in the last 2 weeks and I am unashamedly chuffed😊. It can be bloody stressful running an agency, have to remember to enjoy these bits
Reading ‘Edelman and the Rise of Public Relations’, and, just 13 pages in, am struck by how sound this advice for young/hopeful PRs (and, surely, those of us that have been doing it a while too) is.
I love that it isn’t just about PR.
I'm going to be incredibly British about it, but I'm pretty proud of this. It's still being translated into new languages, has got me a keynote conference spot in Prague this November AND there's not even been talk of pulping it yet.
Just realised, I've been in PR for 11 yrs today! Here I am, fresh-faced (ish), at 20, and now, 2 agencies, a good few sideline projects - some worked, like
@PRexamples
, some didn't! - a book, a name change/other silliness 🙃, a team to be proud of and some grey in my beard later!
It's been a year since we
@Radioactive_PR
went 4-day, same-pay. It was and still is a big change, but here's how it's impacted business:
In short - you CAN still grow a business, you can maintain margins and you can keep staff and clients happy!
This is *wonderful* case study-worthy stuff. Brilliantly judged and well-written.
@Poundland
, take a bow.
(The tweet mentioned in the note has since been deleted as asked - screengrabbed in the replies if you missed it. Thanks to Mr
@Matt_Muir
for sharing)
We’re putting together a quick roundup of journalists like
@fliccross
keen for stories other than those about You Know What for PRs. Hopefully it’s helpful for all in weird times.
Journos - make yourself known! & if you’ve seen other tweets/requests like Felicity’s, let me know
Hello
#PR
friends! We can’t write a whole paper about Coronavirus. We don’t want to. We need your non-CV themed stories more than ever. Fun stuff especially. Email in my bio!

'Total people reached' needs to cock RIGHT off. Looking at an event sponsorship doc and it says 3.3bn were 'reached' through PR last year. I'm either in the half of the global pop. it didn't reach or, more likely given I spend my life consuming media, it's a job for Bullshit Man
MYSTERIOUS TWEET KLAXON.
It's been more than a year in the making, but tomorrow - if the gods are kind and the winds are fair - I'll be announcing something new.
Of all of the things I've had a hand in creating, it's right up there as one of those I'm most proud of.
When we arrived in Repino a month ago, this was on my bed. I’ve looked at it every day since – and it was the first thing I looked at when we got back this morning.
I am so proud to work for this team and this manager.
Very proud! I started
@PRexamples
back in 2012 as a way to celebrate creative PR and cheerlead an industry that can (still) be quite hard on itself. Ranked the
#1
PR blog for the last 2 years and last night winning this
@Vuelio
award, it’s still going strong.
Turns out the Woolworths hoaxer was a 17 year old ‘practising skills learned while taking a course in digital marketing’.

Feeling some real positivity returning on the new business front in the last week or two. Not just that there are out-of-the-blue enquiries again, but the tone of them seems more akin to the before times, even if it’s skewing project vs retained. Others feeling similar?
EXCITING NEWS!
We -
@adjwilson
and I - have been working over the last year to create the best one-stop shop PR course your human money can buy.
Have a look at this thread to follow us
@HighFlyersPR
, learn more about the course itself and see some behind the scenes content!
Our course has been more than a year in the making - with 100s of hours spent creating course content.
We want to reinvent PR training for the WFH world, and arm PR professionals to help them success in their agencies, businesses and careers.
I worry that we've lost the silliness of what has made PR so much fun for me personally over the 14.5 years I've worked in it. (I'm still just 34).
Come to our
#SummerPRty
(click the # for links). Stop comparing yourself to the noisiest PRs. Remember that it's PR, not ER.
Lovely to see some lovely wins coming in for this
#LineofDuty
reactive for
@lmcottages
.
After garbled messages at 7.50am on a bank holiday Monday,
@JoshuaJJames
simply, and understandably, replied with 'what are you banging on about?'. Fair.
Hey, PR Land, floating Stormzy down the Thames *finally* happened. The least original idea ever; a shrugging 'creative' idea thrown up winkingly to signal when an ideas meeting has gone on for way too long, was bought by EE and props to whichever agency had the balls to sell it
The Manchester
#SummerPRty
in full swing. A lovely turnout, and so good to both see lots of people I haven’t seen for ages and meet some new!
Huge thanks again to the sponsors,
@OpiniumResearch
,
@coveragebook
and
@ThePRCavalry
- the free bar is going down VERY nicely
There's a town in Leicestershire called Quorn.
In a well-thought out stunt ahead of Veganuary, meat-free brand 'This' has sponsored Quorn - slapping its branding about the town, including on the welcome sign and
@QuornAFC
's kit.
It’s been a while since I did something daft just because.
As of today, and for the next week, you’ll see this
@radioactive_pr
ad on 45 bin lorries around London 😂
In the last day we've spoken to 2 of the biggest companies in the world - names I'd have only dreamed about when I started this nearly 5 years ago, all because of that results report we created.
It's hard to see the big picture sometimes, but definitely a proud moment.

So,
@prweekuknews
called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “PR Man (Person) of the Year,” but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
I & some of the
@radioactive_pr
team did away with Zoom & had a socially distanced ideas meeting earlier at a park, with regular canine contributions!
The first time in ~3 months we’ve seen each other. Looking forward to the whole team being back in one place, whenever that is.
This evening, my 11 year old said ‘they should put a big Sauron eye on the top of the Eiffel Tower and call it the Eyeball Tower’.
That’s a workable stunt idea I’d probably have pitched to promote a LOTR thing if asked/in PR at the time.
That’s my boy.
I hate being negative about the industry because Christ, there’s enough of that, but this is as bad an approach as I’ve seen.
I’ve undoubtedly got things wrong over the years, but ‘don’t impersonate a journalist TO that journalist’ is a strange lesson to need to learn.
I've seen some desperate PR moves, but this is a new low -- this PR created a fake email response from me to make it sound like I had previously shown interest in this story. It's so easy to demonstrate I didn't send that email... I can't imagine why they thought this would work.
To celebrate turning six, I asked the
@Radioactive_PR
team to put forward six of their favourite campaigns we've worked on in that time. Given the fact we all move onto the next thing so quickly in PR, it's been nice looking back.
Here they are, in no particular order:
PHEW.
Imagining 300 or so people naked took some doing, but I got there.
Insights, creativity and measurement - all the cool stuff. Will likely share slides if anybody is interested early next week - looking forward to having a wander around Prague 😊.
